  1. They're splitting the segment. Escape covers the "cute" side, Scout covers the "masculine" side. I think it's going to work.

  2. I can understand how it got launched (not right but understandable). What I can't figure out is why they didn't go back to the 6F35 when the Euro Focus changed? This was after they knew it was a cluster **** yet they did nothing. Seems penny wise, pound foolish.

  3. So your girlfriend is a hot blonde with a sugar daddy in the middle of a mid-life crisis?

  4. personally I think it would have been terrific, however...I think we will see Hybrids ultimately replacing diesels engines in anything but vehicles designed to tow large loads...

  5. I don’t think those two are In the same category of problems. Granted the heads should have had more threads. However, the failure was much much lower by comparison and most of the issues were resolved with proper torque and maintenance. However, You are correct, it was an issue that should have been resolved 1-2 model years into the design. Not left to linger on for years and let the customer deal with it.

  6. https://jalopnik.com/ford-knew-how-defective-its-fiesta-and-focus-transmissi-1836273922 But today’s Freep story reveals the depth to which Ford knew about the problem, then reportedly ignored all that and sold the cars anyway. From the report: I’ll run through a few highlights. First, Ford knew about these problems early on, with one engineer in 2010 saying the gearbox “MUST BE IMPROVED” before going on sale: Even the lawyers warned about it: Ford admitted the cars were rushed into production as it sought to take advantage of a booming sales market after the recession, and against new quality improvement protocols instituted by then-CEO Alan Mulally: And if the cars slipped into neutral at 70 mph on the highway, Ford’s response was for people to just... pull over: Dealers and repair shops struggled with the cars over and over again:

  7. Oh great!! Now everyone will be complaining that Ford doesn't build diesel forklifts and is leaving an important segment behind.

  10. Maybe I’m dense.... how can there be lack of demand when it was never available to buy? I’ve never seen one yet on a dealer lot or on the streets. Available late 2019 is what I remember seeing/hearing?

  11. If you believe what the Detroit News wrote yesterday, this is exactly what will happen. https://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/ford/2019/07/10/ford-vw-alliance-autonomous-electric-vehicles/1695632001/

  12. Graph from that article says msm859 is correct. Non carbon based fuel sources account for more than half of electricity generated by California commercial and municipal power generating stations last year.

  13. To me it looks like they started with a Mclaren and adapted a corvette front and rear onto it. It just doesn't flow well front to back.

  15. From a design perspective, it looks like one group of people designed the front 2/3rds of the car, and a different group of people designed the back 1/3... and they weren't allowed to talk to each other. A pleasing mid-engine profile will carry your eye from the front corner in a single arc up towards the rear, with just enough massing beneath the rear 1/3 to anchor the flow. On this Vette (assuming this is, in fact, it), the winglet on the door forces the low massing to start too early and too far forward, leaving a huge slab of "oh shit what do we do here" as the profile terminates into the rear bumper. A rear spoiler that, design-wise, only makes sense with cues as seen from the direct rear view adds to the visual mess of the profile. Seriously: Cover up the back 1/3 of the car with your hand and it looks like it could be a really nice design. Now cover up the front 2/3 and again, the design looks promising. They failed - miserably - at scaling and marrying the thematic designs of the car together.

  16. I'd like to see the Fusion to be Ford's take on the Audi All Road lineup. But I'm not sure how successful that would be since it would be more or less slightly jacked up station wagon, which is just as radioactive as a minivan-at least in the US market. but I really do dig the blue A6 All Road that is in my work parking lot.

  19. What do you personally think of the rendering if it's actually true? I think GM has ruined the Corvette. I see the need for rear mid-engine layout but should have named that one Corvette Zora and still have the regular Corvette 'C8' with front engine and rear drive layout. BTW, who is Wellburn?

  20. And you'd have to use it more than 50% of the time for it to qualify for 168/179 anyways. That is why leasing is great for people that use a vehicle for Business/Personal. Very easy to track miles and you can deduct that % of use for the vehicle. Even if you use 179 and depreciate to 0 after 5 years you need to claim that sale as income when you go to sell the vehicle. Also Ranger has a 6050 GVWR and is eligible. AWD versions of the Ridgeline and 4x4 Colorado also just slightly exceed that 6000 number as well. Colorado is actually 6001.

  23. You are 100% correct! The Kuga looks much better. Hoping Ford gets smart and gives the domestic market an ST version. Not likely since Ford markets the Escape to women.

  24. Nice work on the quick chop. I thought it’d make it look better but it doesn’t. It needs something below the lights like the macan has, or like the Kuga has. I’m not sure why they chose to give the American version a different front. The kugas front looks better.

  26. That brought up a good point - a lot of people live in apartment complexes or condos where they can't just put a charger in so they can charge at night. Newer construction may have some chargers installed, but it's not an option for some. I have a buddy who was considering a Model 3 as his next car before he moved. But he moved to a condo with outdoor parking lot where he has no way to charge an electric car, so the 3 is out.

  27. Another thing to consider is the pollution created in the processes needed to make and support electric vehicles. The mining of the rare earth metals for batteries typically strips an area of all good soil, or it contaminates it. On top of it, many of the "new" generation of electric motors are using rare earth metals for their magnets. SO more strip mining. There was an article I had read awhile ago that the Tesla S used a different magnetic field generating via standard copper. So that was better. But the Model 3 uses the rare earth metals. Plus, take a look a "clean" energy wind farms. Guess what? They too use rare earth metals in the making of their magnets. Here's an article looking at carbon created for a vehicle life to death. Guess what was #1? https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1096381_2015-ford-f-150-has-lowest-lifecycle-carbon-footprint-study

  28. There was the "Panther Mafia", thinking Ford should put TV ads for them, thinking it's 1965. And Biker16 was a one man 'Focus Mafia", expecting the line to be #1 car. And station wagon fans going "VW has Golf wagon, Ford should too and it would be a huge hit!". Golf wagon is dead, and the non GTi trims, for 2020. So much for that.

  29. If you want something badly enough you can rationalize all sorts of reasons why it's better. 100% BEVs won't be practical for another decade at least. Selling BEVs to those who want them and PHEVs to everyone else in the meantime is the absolute best solution. Arguing that we have to go to 100% BEVs now is stupid.

  31. Bullshit There's plenty of independent contractors or other trades companies (plumbers come to mind but they mostly use vans) who only need a 1500 series truck who still qualify as fleet buyers, and for the amount of money being asked for these things now, both Ford and RAM offer a far superior value.
