  1. I mean I work on the Mach E. Should I believe the meetings im in or some random broadcast that has 0 internal Ford information. It's 300 miles EPA and 370 miles WLTP, I'm sure.

  2. It's not always about what they want to do--it may have been too close to an existing trademark, and they weren't going to be able to overcome that (or maybe it was going to be too expensive). It may not even have been a US trademark; maybe they couldn't get that trademark in another market where they were planning to sell the Baby Bronco. You wouldn't expect that latter one, but it's why Microsoft's SkyDrive got renamed to OneDrive after it was launched--Sky News had a trademark on SkyDrive in the UK. Microsoft wanted a coherent global name for the product, so they changed the name. It could also simply be that the name didn't test well or other names tested better. Unless Ford comes out and says something (which seems unlikely), all we may ever know is that they decided it wasn't worth pursuing. Of course, if you really want to get conspiracy-minded, Scout was the name of Tonto's horse, and Tonto's horse was a pinto...

  4. Two things that define the future of the U.S. new automotive market. 1.) Trucks. 2.) BEV. Put those 2 things together and it's clear FCA and Toyota will have to get on board with BEV pickups soon or face the prospect of becoming irrelevant in the U.S. pickup truck market. Both companies are successful now with ICE powered pickup trucks, but that era is on its last hurrah.

  5. Exactly, as it stands now there's no guarantee that in 10 yrs from now Ford sells closes or is reduced to barely nothing. After seeing what the teamsters are dealing with pensions issues I'm not risking my retirement on hopes there will be money for when I'm eligible.

  6. It would be nice to have a pension buyout to 401K rollover option available. Workers with more than 20 years in know that even though they have less than 10 years to go, the company could go bankrupt very quickly if certain things play out against them. Endless recalls, a major recession, class action lawsuits, tariff wars and electric/autonomous investment failures could all drain Ford's cash reserves and make bankruptcy a reality. If you don't have 30 years in or have 85 points, you get NOTHING if they go bankrupt. The pension fund is only paid out to those who are fully vested and eligible to retire. The fund would give reduced payments to those eligible until it runs out. If you had 29 years in, you're not eligible yet, so you'd get nothing. Having another option for workers NOT confident in Ford always staying afloat is smart. Some people would want a guaranteed half the money than a possible no money at all.

  7. Know what else they'll do that Tesla can't? Make a profit.

  8. No, the large lead in performance and efficiency accounts for that. Peruse the Taycan range calculator. We’re talking for the regular $153k Turbo, which is essentially Model 3 sized on the inside, with a 95kWh battery, and the same 0-60 of 3.2sec will have an EPA range of about 220mi. Porsche & VAG aren’t short of engineers or R&D investment and can barely outrun a $56k Model 3, while getting shorter range and weighing half a ton more. I’m pulling for Ford, but also recognize (I own one), Tesla has a real demonstrable lead in tech. https://www.porsche.com/uk/models/taycan/taycan-models/taycan-turbo/

  11. It appears retail orders are also stuck in production limbo even after OKTB was given for both models. Did they discover some serious design and/or plant issues after OKTB... is keeping everyone in the dark, including dealers, the best way to handle it... are UFOs real... will we ever know the truth.

  12. Gettelfinger, either statue of limitations or they haven't dug back far enough YET. I can't wait to see how this eventually trickles down to local leadership.

  13. And yet Tesla is still losing money.

  14. Yes it's integrated into the rear camera system on the rest of the vehicle. But it still requires a stick on camera on the back of the trailer. Ford could (and should) include this in the next gen. The technology is not proprietary to GM.

  15. Wow, after reading that article, it sounds as if the sky is falling. I don't know how much is real and if any is exaggeration, but damn. Knock on wood, my Ranger just passed 10k miles and not a single issue.
