  1. There is a BIG difference between a defective part going out and a design flaw. I buy ESPs to cover unexpected repairs from the occasional defective part. I do not buy them to cover design flaws that will continue to fail over and over.

  9. I lost my ability to edit my last one for some reason so here's an updated list of current and Former Ford production facilities. Below is a list of Ford's final assembly plants (both current and former) and their respective abbreviations. Hopefully this clears up any confusion for those who don't know and see people bringing them up in conversation. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ OAC : Oakville Assembly Complex. Formerly OAP - Oakville Assembly Plant and OTP - Ontario Truck Plant - Edge, Lincoln Nautilus DTP : Dearborn Truck Plant. This is the assembly plant currently operating at the Rouge Complex - F-150, F-150 Raptor, F-150 Diesel MAP - Michigan Assembly Plant. Formerly MTP - Michigan Truck plant and WAP - Wayne Assembly Plant. (MTP/MAP and WAP are technically separate facilities, MAP being active and WAP being closed). Wayne Assembly is mostly storage or empty now but a small part of the building is part of MAP ISA (Stamping) making parts for other plants. There's a big project going on in there now and it will become the MOD center for MAP, and a new autonomous vehicle center that was announced in spring 2019. - Ranger - Future home of Bronco FRAP - Flat Rock Assembly Plant. Previously, this was called "AAI" from "Auto Alliance International", when Mazda and Ford had a joint ownership stake. - Mustang, Lincoln Continental CAP - Chicago Assembly (this abbreviation is used less often on the forum, the plant is usually called "Chicago" here) - Explorer (including PI versions), Lincoln Aviator KCAP - Kansas City Assembly Plant - Line 1 - F150 (Except for Raptor and Diesel) - Line 2 - Transit HMO - Hermosillo Assembly Plant - Fusion, Lincoln MKZ - Future home of Bronco Sport CUAP - Cuautitlan Assembly Plant (like CAP, this abbreviation is used less often. Usually we use a misspelled version of Cuautitlan) - Currently down for Retooling. Future home of Mustang Mach-E OHAP - Ohio Assembly Plant (in Avon Lake, on the outskirts of Cleveland) - E-Series Cutaway, F650, F750, Super Duty Chassis Cab KTP - Kentucky Truck Plant (in Louisville) - Super Duty, Expedition, Navigator LAP - Louisville Assembly Plant (also in Louisville, but nowhere near KTP) - Escape, Lincoln Corsair -- Defunct plants that are mentioned from time to time: SLAP - St. Louis Assembly (last product: the BOF Explorer) STAP - St. Thomas Assembly--In St. Thomas, Ontario halfway between Toronto & Detroit (last product: Crown Vic, Town Car) TCAP - Twin Cities Assembly (last product: Ranger) Norfolk - Norfolk, Virginia (last product: F150) Wixom - Wixom, Michigan (last product: Town Car--yes, the Town Car closed down two factories) Edison - Edison, New Jersey (last product: Ranger--just like the Town Car!) Lorain - Lorain, Ohio (last product: "MN12" Thunderbird, Cougar and Mark VIII) HAP - Hapville (Atlanta) Assembly Plant (last product: "DN101"--previous generation--Ford Taurus) ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ There are several stamping and parts plants that are mentioned from time to time as well Buffalo Stamping Plant - Usually referred to as simply 'Buffalo', sometimes abbreviated as BSP. Make body panels for OAC, KCAP(F-150), DTP and KTP (Super Duty) Chicago Stamping - In the Chicago suburb of Chicago Heights. Most of what they make is used at CAP, though some for LAP, OAC and KTP Cleveland Engine - Produces the 3.5L Ecoboost V-6, 2.0L Ecoboost I-4, 2.3L Ecoboost I-4 DDMP - Dearborn Diversified Manufaturing Plant - F-Series suspension parts and axles. Part of the Rouge Complex Dearborn Engine - 2.0L I-4 engine. Part of the Rouge Complex DSP - Dearborn Stamping Plant - Part of the Rouge Complex Dearborn Tool & Die - Another part of the Rouge Complex. Stamping Dies Lima Engine - 2.7L Ecoboost V6, 3.0 GTDI (aka Ecoboost) Livonia Transmission - 6R, 10R and 8F transmissions and service components. Near the Livonia Test Track Rawsonville - Parts Plant. Located near the Willow Run Airportand its famous WWII Bomber Plant Romeo Engine - Not 100% sure what they make. Sharonville Transmission - 6R140 and new 10R140 Transmission. Sterling Axle - Rear Drive units, front & rear axles, planetary gears Van Dyke Transmission - 5M family, Hybrid CVT. They’re currently shuffling workers around since practically everything they build is being phased out. Windsor Site - Windsor Engine and Essex Engine in one complex. Windsor makes 6.8L V10 and new 7.3 V8. Essex makes the 5.0L V-8 Woodhaven Stamping - They make a lot of parts for various vehicles. Mostly for MAP, FRAP and DTP. Woodhaven Forge - Crankshafts. 12. Speaking only for MAP because I work there and our schedule is a little different than everyone else this year: The last working day across the board for all plants is a week from today (December 20). We have an extra week off this year because of some construction going on to prepare for Bronco so we don't go back to work until January 13th.

  13. I was told it was posted on facebook or the app about running 1 shift for 2 weeks around mid feb, I've looked for the post but it's hard to filter through all the xmas party pics and obituaries of so and so's uncles cousins step brother. Without proper communication everything is a damn rumor till it happens.

  14. I'll agree to disagree. A design defect will affect majority of the product and a repair unless the design is changed will continue to fail. If a manufacturer knowingly produces a product that is designed improperly and continues to produce such product, they should be held to a higher standard. Nobody expects their transmission to fail over and over.. nobody expects their EPAS to fail over and over.. nobody expects their water pump to fail and take out the whole engine. These are all design issues and FORD should be held liable for designing, manufacturing and selling defective designs.

  15. This post of yours is pretty unbelievable; 1) For all the hot air you spew about how great Eco-Boost motors are, YOU bought a 3.7NA for your wife. 2) For a guy that constantly tells people to spend extra money on extended warranties, YOU don't follow your own advice. Do me a favor, don't bother responding to anymore of my postings. You have NO credibility. HRG

  18. EXACTLY!!!! I'm in the same position now with the 1.5L Eco-BOOM in my 2018 Escape. 2 years & 25K old, and it's at the dealer for 3 weeks now getting a new short block, 1 of 5 that the dealer is working on with the same problem. There is no way in good conscience that I could possibly keep this vehicle after the 5yr/60K powertrain warranty expires, and risk having to pay for this myself, or have to invest more money into the vehicle by purchasing an extended warranty. Unfortunately, with Ford's insistence of using this technology, and as attractive my opportunity of using the Z-Plan is, I will probably have to look elsewhere. HRG

  19. Smart move ANTAUS sir not investing in individual company stocks like Ford, Federated, and Limited. Index mutual funds and ETFs are a better choice for consumers long term, that's what my family and I do for investing. It's too difficult for most non-finance people to pick the best performing stocks over and over for a decade or more.

  20. As much as a "fan boy" I am with Fords, I can tell you how much money I have made by NOT having their stock. Sadly, I know...Just like when I worked for Federated Dept Stores, and Limited Corp, they would "match" So I would buy a whole bunch and transfer to something that WOULD make money. I wish Ford well, in that regard.

  23. After letting the japanese brands take over the sedans and hatches in the American market, the suvs and crossovers race remained for Ford. But it seems they have not learned from past mistakes and are so ready to lose the crossover and suv battles to the Japanese and now Korean brands. The trucks will be left over. It's very sad to see that they made an ugly Escape, a negative-media Explorer and Aviator, an Ecosport that doesn't even bother a competitor. I think Bronco will have all the work of raising the brand on his own after Powershift's discontent as was Taurus in the 1980s. But who says Ford didn't ruin another model like it ruined Taurus, Fiesta and Focus because of reliability? I vent. Who can change things is you who work and participate in the forum.

  26. I can't find it now, but someone has actually come with such a trailer. It has a battery pack and motors to assist the tow vehicle. It has solar panels, but I think those were mostly to power the trailer itself for when you don't have an electrical hookup. The article on this was from a few months back.

  27. Last time I looked inventory was up around 40k, maybe a sign that Ford expects stronger sales next year.... I’m just happy that as Ranger sales go up, Colorado Sales seems to be collapsing... something like 8900 last month. This is probably not the Ranger to fully match Tacoma sales but if Ford can get up around 12k to 15k sales a month, then that probably sets up the next generation Ranger in two years time. I love watching this, Ford reclaiming it’s place in midsized trucks.

  29. The Aviator has a really cool wiper nozzle setup - the entire blade is the nozzle. Explorer didn't get it, though. My mom picked up her '20 ST last night and it has the regular nozzles under the hood.
