  1. Or maybe they've seen how much shit we give GM for their not-round ones ?

  3. JP- I think you are looking at it the right way. And my fear as I said, it's the easy solution that Hackett and his posse will be looking to cut anything that does not have big volume. The future? Ability to generate more sales throughout the product slate ?---(Joe 76-your favorite point)- forget it. As I see the F-600, this was put together very quickly to offer something to counter GM/International at last years Work Truck Show when they made their return to medium duty. What is an F-600? Its a 550 with a different badge and higher rated springs and rubber! And it will sell. But by no means does it come close IMO to the 650 with its true medium truck beam front axle and 26,000lb GVW-still with the same non CDL driver. Ford is the leader in class 6. And I think the 7.3 will do nothing but increase those numbers big time. We have beat this to death too, but with a savings of $8000 at least over a Power Stroke, it will be a home run for the operator who needs the GVW, and reasonable power, but the truck does not run the mileage for the mpg savings to pay for that upcharge in a reasonable amount of time. And believe me, a 26,000 lb GVW does not stop a lot of operators from going far beyond that figure. Case in point- the guy I worked for while in school was a building contractor. He had two dump trucks-they were a convenience- a Cheby, like 19,000 gvw and an International that I drove-with a plate of 24,000 lbs. I would CARRY 11-12 ton of asphalt! These guys are not going to settle for an F-600. Also, keep in mind, Mack has jumped back into class 6 and 7 with a totally new truck that will be built in a leased building in VA. Obviously the Swedes think class 6 and 7 has a future. If Ford wants to continue to be the leader in commercial trucks, I don't see how they can afford to drop 650/750. Oh and get this -Mack is spending the huge some of $13 million to do this. Its a component truck-like a Ford- at least Ford makes its own SD cabs- all Mack cabs are outsourced-not like the old days. If we were reading about Ford, that would be 50 million!

  4. https://www.automotivetouchup.com/touch-up-paint/ford/2021/all-models/ Sort by model... enjoy! Note: Many of the example color swatches are WAY off, so just use as a reference for the 2021 color names and codes.

  5. Don't know if it means anything, but the Indigo Blue on this 96 F250 has the same KU color code as the new Area 51 color listed for the Bronco.

  6. I actually met DeLorenzo once at the Henry Ford Museum. We were both at the car exhibit looking at the Mustang 1. Nice guy in person, actually kind of quiet and mild-mannered. Quite a contrast from his writer side.

  7. That's great advice for a lot of people. I don't think the general populace realizes how fragile some cars' computer electronics are - one file corruption or improper data entry and you get bad juju. If you have a newer Jag, get ready to live and die by the reflash. And in my XK a reflash solved a temperature problem. In my Cad it solved the auto-highbeam issue. And from what I read in reviews about the Nautilus, I would guess that the newer ones must have updated transmission programming because my tranny works awesome, none of the reported reviewer issues in sport mode. It just sucks when you have to pay for it.... Remember that Mars Lander that crashed because the programmer programmed the descent in pounds of force rather than fig newtons. Ouch. ?

  8. General comment about Ford management... The Company with few exceptions has been badly mismanaged for decades. The corporate culture has been about Dearborn based executives making short term decisions that would protect their positions and bonuses rather than making decisions that would benefit the Company, the product and Ford customers long term. That changed with Alan Mulally with substantially improved product, better product development, Dealer relations, etc. and then Mark Fields threw out the Mulally handbook and everything went back to the way it was before. Mulally was the best CEO in decades and the best for the times. It's easy to say that he couldn't or wouldn't deal with today's changing market situation without discounting the forward thinking approach that served the Company so well under his tenure.

  9. He ran Ford Europe for a few years, although I think Steve Odell did all the hard work closing down plants there before Farley arrived

  10. Agreed but can't really be sure what Farley has really done other than getting himself promoted a lot.

  11. Understood but the Company ran better overall under Mulally's leadership than any other CEO in decades.

  12. This may sound simplistic, but please try it if it hasn't been done. Expy/Navy was new in 07 and Ford keeps updating the PCM programing for several years after introducing a new model, to fine tune engine and transmission performance and address issues/complaints. Dealers will not automatically recommend reflashing your PCM while it's in for service or state inspection. My dealer even balks about doing it when asked. I decided to have my 09 Expy reflashed to the latest (and last) version two years ago. When I asked them to check if I had the latest version they asked why and what problems was I having. I told them I just wanted the latest version and I was willing to pay the 120 bucks to have it done. Turns out it was several versions behind and they had to reflash it twice to get the latest version (no extra charge). But boy what a difference... as soon as I started down the road it felt like an entirely different vehicle. The rough/confused transmission shifts were gone forever... the engine and tranny now work together in perfect harmony. Even the occasional problem of getting a hard brake pedal when backing out of the garage in the morning has never happened again... because the reflash increased the cold idle rpm to bring the brake booster vacuum up quickly. I also saw a consistent 1.5 mpg improvement. Two years later and I'm still impressed with how silky smooth and refined my 09 Expy drives now. I should've had it done much sooner and since then I've had all our vehicles checked/reflashed to the latest PCM versions. It fixed our Fusion Hybrid wrench light problem when driving uphill at freeway speeds on a hot day... which would reset without a fault code on restart.

  13. 2020's Farley is a FAR cry from 2010's Farley - who didn't make many friends with his abundant self confidence and oozing cockiness. He's said to have learned some very hard lessons - both privately and publicly - and has earned the full trust and confidence of Bill Ford to be the man who will execute the aggressive restructuring plan. From what I can tell, I don't have any worries about corporate leadership as long as Bill has his wits. He is fully and painfully aware that his family's legacy is being cast with each new model and every decision made... in a way that hasn't fully been appreciated since the first half of Henry II's reign. Mulally was the right guy for the time. Fields was NOT the right guy , and Bill regrets giving his leash the length he did. Hackett is the right guy to clean up the mess. Farley, IMHO, is the right guy to push the directive forward. "Commit to and own the segment" is BIll's directive. It won't change.

  14. I'm sure this was mentioned somewhere in these 30 odd pages of posts but if the doors are removable it makes sense not to put the mirrors on the doors. When I added an outside mirror on my '75 Bronco, which didn't have any when I got it, I put it on the driver side A pillar for that very reason. Incidentally, the 1st gen Bronco had them mounted on the door behind the vent window.

  18. We'll know for sure Bob when the new 7.3 goes in F650, if those buyers stick or more come then the MDs are safe and F600 is there just for F550 buyers just short of capacity....I don't know maybe I'm lookin at this wrong.....

  19. It looks weird? Let’s be honest, you don’t see a lot of factory-stock vehicles with the mirror mounted that high up on the A-pillar. I don’t mind it, function over form in the Bronco’s case.

  20. I grew up with toast made under the broiler with butter already on it. Only way to make cheese toast or cinnamon sugar toast. Thats why I always put butter on my toast and then jelly. Wife does either or but never both. Opposites attract I guess.

  21. Yes, it will change. I'm saying the list is inaccurate or a placeholder. Last time I checked this isn't what school buses look like either.

  23. Rather bland looking set of colors for the bronco, and only one listed for "Bronco I" And no Ford blue seems odd. .

  25. I can't hate you. You’re one of the few I know that has any common sense.

  26. Damn man, why did you have to say you're an engineer? I can't like you out of principle now! ?

  27. Not sold on Farley as CEO but he can’t be as bad as Pete makes out.

  28. IMO this speaks volumes. I place great value on what others with some gray hair think. And as I and others ("Kyle"?) in other threads have suggested, think of it-two guys at the top who are not engineers. We are not talking about office furniture here. And if in fact Hinrich was the guy in charge of the Explorer launch, he deserved his share of the blame-and he obviously got it all. But where was his boss? Obviously on the same floor? If it was so crucial, and difficult given total plant gutting and set up of a completely different product, shouldn't Hackett's level of oversight been raised?? My guess is he was too busy coming up with new buzz words.

  29. Well I for one don't think it should have been an "all or nothing" decision. As big as Ford is, I would have thought that a product mix would be beneficial given the fickle nature of the market. What's hot today is old news tomorrow-at least as I see it.

  30. Hackett’s mandate is to build the best vehicle possible and win the segment. That’s an engineer’s dream and it seems to be happening with Bronco and other new projects. Mulally never supported that approach.
    1 point
  31. You can read it that way. You could also read it that Subordinates were not giving him the truth about launch readiness Superiors over-rode his warnings about launch readiness and then forced scheduled launches anyway Hinrich was well respected in the industry press, unlike Farley. The group of middle level management retirees that I exchange mail with have already given Farley a "vote of no confidence" based on his total lack of experience in vehicle launches.

  32. And again, who exactly is going to buy all these EVs? Obviously you can't ignore the segment, but EV sales history to date does not give me confidence that I should bet the company's future on EVs. They've been "the future that's going to take over next year" for the last 10 years. Yes invest in them enough that you're not caught flat footed if they do eventually take off, but by all means keep pumping resources and talent into ICE programs because that's what's going to pay the bills and dividends for the next several CEO cycles.

  33. I had a Pacifica as a rental car back in December (fairly loaded model) and I was very, very impressed. Nice interior materials, comfortable ride, and one of the better current minivan exterior designs. This refresh knocks it out of the park - I love the new rear end, and that new grille looks awesome!

  34. Ford's showroom is going to look pretty different this time next year, it's about time that buyers got something different and desirable vehicles that sales staff can actually sell to buyers....a little less vanilla

  35. Not really - it's because there is a large contingent of folks who hate Ford for some reason and take any opportunity to disparage them.
