  1. I gave mlhm5 some valtrex for the next 7 days since he seems to be hung up on trolling as of late.

  3. In its current iteration, it kind of has to be. The next gen will present a more capable little brother for F-Series. Bronco P/U, assuming it carries forward, is a relatively easy exercise, given the amount of A-grade hardware that can carryover. It can sell with ATPs higher than Ranger and is thought to be able to conquest - ironically - traditional Wrangler buyers. And that's all I can say. For now.

  4. Under development, in an official sense now. Jeep's approach - a 50/50 split of Wrangler and 80's-vintage pickup - managed to expose the worst of both. Re: Bronco P/U: Think about what made the first gen SportTrac such a success, and apply that formula to an offroader with unsurpassed chops and pedigree. Remember the lifestyle pickup program that was scratched a while back? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

  5. I did this quick chop. I took the extra length out of the cab and shifted the bed forward without moving the wheel - bed size is actually the same.

  6. I wasn’t a huge fan of the early sport tracs, but by the time they started looking like this, I thought they were pretty awesome. I actually think this design has aged very well and still looks like an attractive vehicle. I for one love the short bed. It was large enough to carry one large item, like a lawn mower or chest of drawers, and it was short enough to where the vehicle would still fit in the garage.

  8. The thing is that the reason there isn't more charging stations is that there is a lack of demand-not to mention your typical commuter will be charging at home 90% of the time. I know people who have invested in Solar panels to off set costs of charging at home. This isn't going to be a lightswitch where in 2030 we will all be driving BEVs instead of ICE products. 2030 will be the infection point that ICE starts shrinking and never recovers. The thing you seem to be forgetting is that the auto industry of today was basically started anywhere from 24 months to 5 years ago. Just look at this way-the Mustang is getting a refresh soon and heavy update in 2022/23, with an expectation of a new platform post 2025. What will Ford do? Will they merge the Mach E and Mustang into a single platform that is BEV only? Its possible. I don't see any major investments in any new ICE engines going forward-only updates/upgrades, because to spend a billion or two on a new ICE engine (for light duty use at least) isn't going to pay for itself over the next 15 years (using 2035 as an example) with the expectations that BEV will be at least 50% of the market in 2030.

  9. I strongly suggest you watch one on of Tony Seba's presentations on YouTube. This guy is predicting the end of internal combustion engines by 2030 ! Like every other futurist he thinks we can "grow" enough "clean" electrical energy to power MASSIVE quantities of electric vehicles. This would take TRILLIONS of dollars world wide and there is no real incentive (as far as the people holding the money are concerned) to make that commitment ! You COULD look at it from that direction, but most everyone in the company is looking at it as a "hard 90° turn" ! How wants to keep working on internal combustion engines ? Notice I said this was a bunch of middle level retired engineering managers. None would disagree the the future is going to including electric vehicles and possibly self driving vehicles. It takes a "steady hand" at the wheel of an "aircraft carrier" to change course. What good did it do to publicly come out and tell the world "we aren't going to be making cars any more !" It certainly hurt sales short term. They did not stop the following day and people were then forced to work on a "dead man walking" (2020 Fusion) to get it out the door. That really is not very "inspiring" ! The success of new products (Ranger, Explorer, Bronco, Mach-E) is dependent upon the "cash cow" that have been keeping the blood flowing.

  10. Isn't 'going fast' a big part of what caused problems with the Explorer launch? As much as I want to see the Bronco yesterday, we don't need more of that.

  11. RedHoncho, we don't know exactly. It will either be a 2022 model year out in 2021 or a 2023 model year out in 2022. Its design and engineering is well underway. Based on what I have read and heard, coming out around the same time should be an all-electric mid-sized Lincoln crossover (possibly about the same size as the Nautilus). Design and engineering of this vehicle is also well underway. Both will have Ford cousins, like the Corsair has with the Escape and the Nautilus with the Edge. Both of these mid-sized crossovers would be in addition to the larger all-electric (and Lincoln exclusive) SUV that has recently gotten considerable press attention. That will probably be out a year or so earlier, possibly as early as sometime next year. Your quandary is why I leased my Nautilus last year, first time I've leased. I'm thinking of swapping into either the new redesigned Nautilus when it comes out or maybe the mid-sized electric. If you go with the current Nautilus, let me recommend the 2.7 twin turbo V6 with AWD. That combination really add to the drivability of this larger crossover (than what you are used to). The bigger engine for the power and the AWD to improve handling and avoid torque steer (as a result of the bigger engine). Good luck!

  19. It was the Nautilus dash that sold me over the Aviator. Nothing against the new Lincoln dash, but for me it is very busy. The simple waterfall of the Nautilus center console provided that relaxing atmosphere i was looking for. I like the drivers screen settings also, mine only shows the digital speedometer. Just a note, I'm not a fan of the gloss black, too easily scratched.

  20. I saw a few Daytona 500's in person several years ago. The last was in 1988 which also happened to be the first year for restrictor plates on the super speedways. Bobby Allison beat his son Davey and King Richard spun on his roof down the front straight like a child's top. Unfortunately, that was probably the highlight of the race. Just my opinion but restrictor plates were originally just as much a way to choke the Elliott's domination of big track racing as they were a "safety" measure. "Jaws" Waltrip and Dale Sr couldn't beat Awesome Bill on those tracks and were not shy about bitching to NASCAR. IMO the greatest display of Ford domination was when Elliott had an oil line come loose at the 1985 Winston 500 at Talladega, went almost two laps down and came back to win the race without a caution flag. After re-watching the start of that race it looked like Elliott must have been running a much taller rear axle gear than everyone else as he fell back several positions at the start of the race and was slow coming up to speed after pit stops. But once he got that thing wound up there was no contest. https://953thebear.com/nascar-hall-of-famer-bill-elliott-relives-1985-victory-at-talladega-superspeedway/

  25. While Tesla stays with lithium based batteries, they really aren't that much ahead and doubling down on that tech means that they are less likely to switch before getting a satisfactory return on today's battery investments where Ford is looking at next gen solid state battery tech with BMW & Hyundai

  26. Tesla buys their battery cells from Panasonic. The cells are 21700 standard....which are made by other companies like Samsung. There is nothing special about the battery cells used in Tesla cars. I think people get confused by Panasonic making the battery cells for Tesla's American cars in space rented within the gigafactory.

  27. There is not a single auto analyst out there that believes F will be anything but a bit player in the BEV market, otherwise, the stock would not be $8 a share. After the absolute disaster with Explorer, the analysts do not believe the announced change in management will make a difference. IMO, the Explorer disaster does not give future customers the confidence that the same thing won't happen with Ford's first BEV. Maybe fanboys will buy the Mach-E but other potential customers will look more closely and either wait and see or just buy a Model Y.

  32. I would say the future of BEVs lies solely in the hands of battery development.....that and acknowledgement of its inherent environmental impact ...which is still in its gestation whereas ICE is pretty well know, warts and all...

  33. Ford stock is at the same price it was in 1988. How did a company who is known for building a car screw up the launch of the 2020 Explorer so badly? Analysts are watching closely.

  35. They're just words. There's nothing inherently bad with swear words, it's all a matter of perception, and the intent of the word. Strangely enough, we are listening to a video on this right now. My wife and I help lead the RCIA classes for our parish, and language is a topic tonight. It's all in the intention, and when not used for the intention of knocking people down, it's OK for occasional use.

  42. He's never forgiven Jim Farley for ending his company's advertising contract with Ford, makes mention of it again in the article but doesn't declare his own interest in that deal. PDL is also on the outer at GM , he wasn't invited to the C8 Corvette event, you could tell he was sore about that. Maybe any good will be had is now all used up, burnt bridges?

  48. I just hope that a HUD is an option if it's going to add cost. I had it in my LaCrosse and it was cool and I just drove around for a few days with my loaner XT4 and it had it too, but for me I and the wife, we just don't care about them. We would personally like to put the money elsewhwere. If it's a couple hundred cool, toss it in but any more than that I'd rather hope and pray for black packages to spend the money on. Or in the case of my wife, double up the subwoofer and amp power... ?

  49. Lane departure warning is most useful, I think, with around town driving. It can be used as well on the highway, but there, lane centering really shines and is better used because... ...lane centering works quite differently from lane departure warning. The former only kicks in when you have your adaptive cruise control engaged -- and the two systems work well in tandem. I found that centering with adaptive cruise together provide a quantum leap in road trip driving. And unlike my expectation, it enabled me to concentrate better on the less mundane aspects of driving, actually sharpening my attention on the road rather than detracting from it.
