  1. Bronco reveal in March according to this article: https://www.autonews.com/nada-show/ford-plans-bronco-reveal-march-dealers-learn-details

  2. The Hummer H1 had independent suspension on the front and back. It's hard to find a tougher vehicle than that.

  3. Why doesn’t Ford just do what they did before (Terminator Cobra) and offer a platform with two different suspension setups?? I would pay extra within reason for SFA.

  4. The Rivian BEV=Continential BEV Going on that new EU photo, there looks like there is another product under the Ecosport or replaces it Then you have the BEV Mid sized CUVs-not sure if they come out 2022 or 23 or if they are replacements for the Edge/Nautilus or complementary products.

  8. I doubt there's anything wrong with the chassis. What is different is the length. The Ranger, like fast off roaders, is long -- and when a racer is going to modify it, they're going to make it even longer. Long + speed = stable. Funny cars get stretched, and so do desert racers. Stability is not the issue with low speed technical trails. It is maneuverability, articulation, and maintaining traction. Shorter wheelbases and narrower bodies work better there. But Ford is still pushing 'fast' off roading with the Bronco marketing which makes no sense for a vehicle that is purposely short. So I'll repeat it ... The Bronco's basic geometry and physics make it an inherently poor choice for high speed.

  9. In all honesty I’d rather have an IFS having ridden in SFA vehicles. Bronco doesn't have to be the ultimate extreme off-road vehicle to be competitive or meet the goals it sets out to have. In this genre, most people want something they can take out camping, do some light off-roading and be good in inclement weather. That is all you are going to do with a stock Wrangler as it is. The aftermarket will give you the goodies if you want it.

  12. Agree on the Rivian BEV=Continental BEV. Also, there's no indication that a "Zephir" will return to the Lincoln lineup, though many hope for some kind of sporty sedan to come in once the MKZ and current Continental sedans end. Also agree on the midsized BEV crossovers coming. For Lincoln it should slot in about where the "Zephir" is (currently under development alongside a Ford cousin). They might arrive as early as 2022, but could be 2023. As silvrsvt notes, there is little known about them except they are on their way and, like the MME and unlike the Rivian-based Lincoln, they are being developed in-house. It is said they will be roughly the size of the current Edge/Nautilus, which, along with the fact that this is the same timeperiod that Edge/Nautilus are due for redesign, has led some to think they could be a replacement. My bet is that, at least for now, there will be both ICE/hybrid and BEV products released as it is probably still too early to turn over that entire model slot (2-row midsized CUV) over to BEV. But we'll see.

  13. New Bronco has IFS, no one here has ever shied away from that, a quick look at the underside will show that It would be a massive tear up and redo to fit an IFS and a full re-engineer of frontal crash protection zone. People know ahead of time that Bronco will have similar front suspension as the Ranger so they can easily work out if the IFS is enough for them or whether they need Jeep's IFS. I get the disappointment of folks wanting a Bronco with factory SFA but if Ford was really going to do that, it would have showcased any SFA on the Bronco R. Rumour was, There was a rock crawler oriented model in the works, I'm not sure if Ford will be proceeding with it or not so in the absence of any internal confirmation, its best to just say no for now and not build up expectations.

  14. Maybe you should type louder, I don't think everyone can hear you. I wasn't aware that this forum was only for discussing things that are officially proclaimed by Ford, and not for debating the virtues or qualities of what could or will be. I must have missed that somewhere in the first 35 pages of the thread ...

  15. If an easy handling cushy daily driver is what you're after, purchasing a performance vehicle seems like a really silly choice. If that's the direction Ford is going with the Bronco, then it is very unlikely to be an off road competitor for the Wrangler, or even the 4runner, and is going to fall flat on its face when its put into competitions and comparisons against it.

  16. Everyone knows Jeep Wranglers are the best handling/steering, most comfortable, and capable daily driver SUVs thanks to their handy SFAs. Why didn't Ford engineers understand this ?

  17. Wtf are you talking about? It's sharing a frame with Ranger. By wheelbase, I meant ... wheelbase, the distance between the front and rear axles. Long + fast = stable ---- I said that earlier too. Trophy trucks usually extend their wheelbase beyond the length of a normal truck. Pre-runners usually extend their wheelbase beyond the length of a normal truck. The Bronco R prototype extended its wheelbase beyond a normal Bronco. Unless you were somehow under the impression that the wheelbase of the Ranger and Bronco were the same.

  18. Because I prefer the simplicity (less parts)and durability for a slight downgrade in ride comfort.Go drive a 2500 HD and F-350... it’s not a big difference in on road manners. Sure it’s a different vehicle class but I don’t see any reason why an IFS versus SFA Bronco would be any different.

  19. Hmm I must have missed the part where I brought up anything on rock crawling??? Plenty of advantages to SFA in addition to being better suited for rock crawling but the IFS trolls are misinformed and equate SFA to rock crawling.

  20. Or as a poster on classicbroncos forum stated after seeing it in person in the shop where it was built ... it was a F150 chassis. The point still stands, the Bronco's basic geometry and physics make it an inherently poor choice for high speed like the Raptor lineup

  21. That's the nature of an aspirational purchase. People aren't buying Mustangs because they're going to be street racers risking their lives like James Dean or w/e. It is about how it makes them feel and the potential of what could be done with it. The Bronco having (or not) off road capability comparable to a Wrangler is about how it makes them feel, the adventure they can enjoy in their imagination. Same for the F350 Tremor. Potential and aspiration. If everyone knows the potential isn't there -- if the reviewers and YouTubers aren't using it -- then the buyers who want to imagine a life they aren't really going to have aren't going to be buying Broncos in order to dip their toe in that fantasy.

  23. SD’s are a great example... GM builds an IFS HD that no one buys while Ford sells a whole lot of SFA SD’s. Just look at 1/2 ton sales number which market share percentage wise GM is a whole lot closer to Ford but get’s crushed in HD’s because of IFS. We are not talking about radically different vehicles... plenty of people buy SD’s as nothing more than daily drivers and prefer the SFA. The only advantage of a Solid Axle is rock crawling??? ?Perhaps you should do a little more research....
    1 point
  24. Apparently the people buying Tremor package F350s. Ford thought the combination of SFA off-roader was worth building for the superduty, how is it so hard to imagine a smaller more maneuverable vehicle like a Wrangler or Bronco would benefit from the same combination?

  25. Because a body on frame truck with a bed is so different than a body on frame truck with a wagon top?
    1 point
  26. You rock crawl F-350s? Because that's the only advantage for a front stick axle on a Bronco. Stop bringing up Super Duties, we're talking about the Bronco. Might as well be comparing skid loaders to excavators.

  27. Technically it’s an MCA, but it’s significant for both Expedition and Navigator. I mean the 2021 F-150 is a new generation but it’s not an all new truck with the general footprint and cabs all carrying over. One could say the changes the Expedition and Navigator get are exactly on par with the F-150s changes. Both get new sheetmetal from windshield forward plus, new headlights, grilles and bumpers, plus new rear sheet metal on hatch with new taillights. Inside both get new dashboards and new door panels in front row. Yes the new F-150 dashboard will be shared with the 2022 Expedition. There will be powertrain updates as well but don’t know specifics. It’s honestly nice to see the Expedition and Navigator stay fresh right along with the F-150. No more languishing for these beasts seeing as they make so much money.

  28. They were being deliberately kept out of site after Ranger leak years in front of release. Tooling prove-out was done last March with first prototypes last April. A lot of the testing was being done with attribute prototypes, chopped up Rangers Final certification work would now be underway up until job 1 in December.

  29. Heep owners may go bronc...soon as they receive estimate on cost to mod they will be looking to trade....bronc will win drivability..no question....but the broc will be far weaker where it counts and far more expensive to mod...many lifted ifs rigs are never plated again and for good reason.... ...

  30. I just watched the movie with my brother and some of his older kids. I still don't like that fabricated scene with The Deuce, and I still don't like Matt Damon, but I have to admit that it was an excellent movie, and Damon was very good as Ol' Shel, but Christian Bale really stole the show as Ken Miles. There's one other thing, a scene near the end of the movie, after Le Mans. I knew the history, so I knew what was going to happen, but they handled it so well that I really wasn't ready for it. I can understand why it haunted Shelby for decades.

  31. Troller T4 is not related to T6, its just a parts bin share from T6 Ranger (theengine, gearbox, door mechanisms and HVAC componentry.) the chassis and caxles are all troller design Your assumptions regarding Bronco on T6 are pants on backwards, there's only a only a small demographic that wants a showroom Bronco to be an extreme off road vehicle. To the extent, that SFA and decoupling anti-roll bars are are just not on this product envelope. It will have a much better balance of on road performance and that a crappy old SFA will never ever match. Jeeps ruggedness is its own short coming, some would say, a liability when compared to Bronco, the Gladiator Mojave is an example of just how shit scared Jeep is of Bronco, they're manoeuvring now as best they can but it won't be enough...I'm predicting lots of Wrangler defectors will go to Bronco along with other new buyers, its just a different mix of skills that better suits the bulk of new buyers who want an all road capable vehicle.

  32. The problem I have with IFS is what advantages does it offer over Solid Axle?? We know SFA offers plenty of advantages, just don’t understand the reasoning behind saddling it with IFS.. And don’t give me on road manners as Ford has gotten the Super Duty to be every bit as good as GM HD’s when it comes to on road driving. No reason they can’t do it with the Bronco they just decided to cheap out.

  33. I would recommend against buying stocks because they are low in price; it's a great way to lose money. I was one of the ones that was buying Ford way back when it was in the $1 to $2 range back in 2008/2009, and continued buying on the way up thinking it was going back to $20-30/share. I made some good money initially, but I lost a lot also by continuing to hold and hope for the best. This stock has been terrible since 2014, and I don't see things getting better any time soon. I have actually done far better in the last several years by selling off chunks of my Ford holdings and diversifying into other companies such as Microsoft, Intel, and Johnson & Johnson. Ford is considered very undervalued right now, so if you are going to take out a speculative position I don't think it will hurt, but don't expect to get rich off it. Auto stocks, especially mature companies like Ford, are just not very good investments in general. And Ford is even more difficult because the Ford family has so much control over the shares (which is great to keep the company family owned, but not necessarily good for stockholders). Add in the unknown effects of the coronavirus on China sales and the global economy; there are just way too many risks to the auto industry right now.

  34. And yet there's a Ranger Raptor that's has a super capable chassis so similar to Bronco.....
    1 point
  35. And every proclaimed off roader is measured against the Wrangler, and the review will read something like "While it's not as capable off road as a Wrangler, it does blah blah blah" ... Every time. Even in markets where the Wrangler is barely an option. The parts of a SFA are more rugged (physically thicker and stronger, fewer in number), and cheaper and easier to equip for hard use (lift, big tires, etc). They provide better articulation, and better traction under articulation. The only reason to put IFS on such a short wheelbase front engine vehicle is to give it "car like" handling on the road. The Bronco's basic geometry and physics make it an inherently poor choice for high speed like the Raptor lineup -- and slow speed off roading is all about torque, articulation, and traction ... which is what breaks IFS parts. Ford is dumbing down their "off road mustang" for the people who aren't going to drive it off road. Hopefully it won't be so crippled that its not worth the effort to do an axle swap on.

  36. I wonder if there might also be a Ranger Raptor? If Ford is serious about making all these different sub brands, Mustang = Road Sports Bronco = Rock Crawling Raptor = Desert Runner Following those categories, you could argue for a bronco PU being a rock crawler and Raptor Ranger being a desert truck, and that would be the differention. Is that enough to make a viable business case? I honestly don't know.

  37. Yes that push button gear shift does take some getting used to. Shut/start is top button. JasonJ-thx for suggestion on MKZ 3.0. Never would have looked as I thought they were all 4 bangers. I also started looking on You Tube and found all sorts of videos praising the MKZ. Once again classic Ford marketing-ever see an ad talking about a 400 HP AWD MKZ? Nope.

  38. Well to close this out. After looking at a couple of Fusion Sports-small screen, I started looking at MKZ's and that is what I ended up with . 2017, 39,000+ miles, CPO, 3.0T, AWD, Reserve, Driver Sport package and very good Car Fax (typical 36 mo.lease, and off to auction. Hated to part with the SHO as it was flawless and to the un initiated if it was parked next to a 2019, someone would think it was a 2018. In any case sold it to a retired cousin whose wife had passed, and he had sold her car, and discovered that his Ranger pick up that he hauled his Sheltie pup around in was not exactly something that his new lady friends thought was the ideal vehicle?. He will probably put a couple of thousand miles a year on it. Feel good about that as I'll be able to keep tabs on it-hated the thought of someone trashing it-yeah I know its just a car! MKZ is nice and after my youngest son gave me an education and spared me the ordeal of going through almost 600 pages of the owner's manual, I think I will enjoy it. Thx again guys for your comments.

  40. I've had my 17 Fusion Sport for a couple of years now with a little over 40,000 miles on it. I still love driving it everyday. I just bought a Steeda cold air kit and an Unleashed Tuning tuner for it.
