  1. You don’t need SFA to differentiate it. RWD body on frame, larger size and more power will differentiate it. And I’ll go on record as betting that a stock Bronco will be every bit as off road capable as a stock Wrangler but will be more comfortable as a daily driver.

  2. I would say that's it in a nutshell right there...……..Id also go out on a limb and state drivetrains will be a significant step up as well...and refinement...

  3. I don't think the word "refinement" has ever been applied to Wrangler. Other than maybe the lack thereof...

  4. That is the exactly niche that Ford is going for with the Bronco. Couldn't say it better. The Ranger matched up fine vs the Gladiator without being specifically developed for off road use. The Bronco will get the extra attention for off road use.

  5. HaHa there's justice at least SOMEWHERE in the US..... Where I live those things (bigmouth bass Lexus SUVs) are a dime a dozen. Truly astounds me someone would think that car looks good..... But they sell the crap out of them... a true head scratcher for me anyway. ?

  7. Funny how turbos on Diesel engines are coveted and praised and nobody every complains about them, but ecoboosts are constantly panned even though they were developed exactly the same way - with turbocharging as a base requirement.

  8. Howdy! I'm fairly new to these forums myself, and as I look around the Welcome forums I see a lot of folks like me. Someone who lurked here, doing research before purchasing their (next/first) Ford vehicle. Someone who has (or is about to) take the plunge, maybe even special ordering their new car or truck. Someone who can't wait to learn all about their new vehicle and don't want to pester their salesman until they get thrown out of the dealership. So, I thought it might be nice to collect some of the useful tips I've learned the past few weeks. These are some basic information gathering tasks you can do if you've ordered a new vehicle and can't wait until it arrives. Undoubtedly, you've noticed the "Vehicle Locator By Ford Employees" forum. While it's a wonderful and generous service provided by "someone on the inside," we must always remember it's entirely voluntary and never abuse the privilege. With that in mind, here's ways to keep yourself occupied without needing to pester cyberdman. New Orders When you make a new order for sale or lease, the Dealer (or possibly a Build Manager at their dealership) enters the order into the Ford system. This will generate three things: an order number, the vehicle's VIN, and a projected build date. When tracking your vehicle through the build process, a Ford employee can look things up by either the Dealer Code + the Order Number, or by the vehicle's VIN. For most of the sleuthing we can do, we need the VIN. So when you place a special order, try to get the VIN and projected build date whenever you can. When looking into the status of your vehicle, you might bump up against some of Ford's tracking terms. Some common ones are: Unscheduled - Clean: means the order has reached FoMoCo, and is clean of any production holds. Scheduled or Segemented: means the order is scheduled to a producton segment week. Once you see this, they typically won't accept any further changes to the order. You can find more terms here: http://themustangsource.com/timeline/05/05/DealerStatusInquiryGlossary.pdf Window Stickers One of the first ways to 'track' your order is by grabbing the Window Sticker from Ford. There are two ways to accomplish this: first, by crafting your own URL. Put this into your web browser's address bar: http://services.forddirect.fordvehicles.com/inventory/WindowSticker.pdf?vin= Then put your VIN at the end of it, and hit enter. You can also click through this link: http://www.researchmaniacs.com/Ford/TrackFactoryCarOrders.html And simply type or paste your VIN into their form. I believe they rely on the same system, but if you're paranoid use the first link; fordvehicles.com is Ford. Now, just because you've placed a special order and gotten a VIN, doesn't mean the Window Sticker will work right away. Window Stickers don't tend to appear until 4-7 days prior to your build date. So this is the first way you can tell when your vehicle is ready to be built. FordEtis Aimed at auto techs, the FordEtis website is an online database for those who service and repair Ford vehicles. It also provides information about specific vehicles by VIN. And not just 'decoding' the VIN (where some basic options can be determined by the letters and numbers), but by actually pulling info from Ford's databases. Go to http://www.etis.ford.com and click on the "Vehicle" tab. Enter your VIN and click "Search." First of all, don't panic if the vehicle it finds doesn't match what you ordered. Especially would-be Fusion owners. Like the Window Sticker generator, your vehicle's info might not show up in the system right away. Early on, you might get errors that the VIN cannot be found. Later, a simple entry might come up with just a few lines of data. The vehicle type might be incorrect, and the build date will show: "30.11.0002". Dates are displayed day/month/year, and 30.11.0002 seems to be a place holder until the actual build date is in the system. Even more later, often on or just around your build date, the entry should fill out with more info, including your actual build date (note: it might not match the project date your Dealer gave you), as well as an expanding section called "Minor Features" which lists all the build options your order did or did not take. Rail Tracking And finally, if you've been on the forums awhile and use the Vehicle Locator by Ford Employees forum, eventually you'll learn when your vehicle is complete and placed on a railcar for shiping to you. Like me, you're probably bouncing off the walls at this stage wanting to get your hands on your hot, new, little car or truck. How to do it? If you post to the tracking forum for an update, and you get a message like this: Your vehicle is on the move. To track the railcar, call CSX at 1-800-235-2352 When prompted for location or weight, press 1 or say "location". When prompted for the car initials, say "ETTX" or press 32-81-81-92. When prompted for the car number, say or press your 6 digit ETTX car number. When prompted for the next car, press ## or say "Done". A recorded voice will tell you the last known arrival or depature location of your railcar. Most times, it won't provide an ETA (and anyways, it's likely not an ETA related to your vehicle specifically). Facebook Some friendly Customer Service reps have Facebook accounts where you can ask questions. Keep in mind, this is publicly visible, so I wouldn't go posting anything you don't want the whole world to see. Tina Megan now has the original account: http://www.facebook.com/FordCustomerService Eric is the other: http://www.facebook.com/FordCustomerService2 This now appears to be the new 'official' page: https://www.facebook.com/FordServiceUS ---- I'd like to thank all the kind and knowledgable folk on these boards, from whom I was able to compile these tips and tricks. If anyone else has any tips or info, please post below. Mods, if you feel this would be useful, could you make this topic a sticky? Thank you!

  12. This will be less pronounced without the camo. The busy pattern over the paint is forcing attention right down onto the upper grille sculpting. In final form, the LED piping flanking the hood edge will carry the visual load at the top of the fascia.

  13. Well, this is likely a Platinum model (it's used the chrome/silver combo), so obviously other trims will have different grilles with and without chrome.

  14. Sorry, I misunderstood your argument then. I thought you were arguing that Ford thought it could get away with keeping BEV prices artificially high (and actually selling enough BEV products to get a higher profit -- or *any* profit if they are only selling uncompetitive products) in the face of lowered battery costs even as other BEV automakers were compelled to reduce their prices due to free market competitive forces. To date, those BEVs able to actually compete with ICE vehicles have all been premium-to-luxury vehicles because battery costs have compelled them to be in that range. It will indeed be interesting to see what automakers (and when) will be able to punch down into the mainstream auto market with fully capable and competitive BEV products. Dont get me wrong. Some luxury automakers will continue to sell only high-priced BEVs with luxury appointments and features because that is their brand. But we'll even be seeing price/capabilities competition amongst luxury BEV products because that's how the market works.

  15. IFS may not be the best system for rock crawling but it will work very well for the the other 98% of off-road situations. My friends lifted wrangler has terrible road manners, and would not be enjoyable to me as a daily driver. I think that trade off is worth it if that is the route it’s going.

  16. You get a ding when the camera can't make out the street lines well enough and it can't lane keep properly. The display shows the steering wheel icon go from green to yellow and then back again when it sees a good enough line to start lane keeping again. Probably a total liability thing for those who think they can have tea and crumpets while driving down the road. I've heard rumor too, that you hear a ding every time an angel gets his wings.... ?

  17. I've said this before but I had a 2013 Fusion 2.0EB and now have a F150 3.5LEB. Wife went from a 3.5LNA Edge to a 2.0LEB Escape which turned out to be too small for us so we moved to a 3.7LNA 2016 MKX. Every time I drive it I wish we had waited and ordered the 2.7LEB. Wife couldn't care less and the 3.7L is perfectly adequate I just don't like the way it feels after getting used to ecoboosts.

  18. All of our company cars have been EcoBoost powered since 2012 and we've put a combined 600,000 miles on them without a single major problem (except for a transmission in a 2013 Escape with 140,000 miles). Our current oldest vehicle in the is a 2014 Fusion with a 2.0EB with 120,000 miles. Still going strong. My wife & I test drove Explorers with a 3.5NA and 2.3EB back to back and went with the 2.3EB, it was a no brainer. I bet a tune would really wake it up.

  19. Has anyone else noticed how PHAT... the new Bronco is? I don't recall seeing or noticing how wide the fender flare was on this thing... I wonder if they will all look like this or if it's a more hardcore edition. https://jalopnik.com/take-your-first-look-at-the-2020-ford-broncos-taillight-1841796317

  20. So when you take your foot off the brake, your car is just dead? You have to restart by pushiing the start button? The clunking noises after sitting is normal. It only gives you that warning when your cruise is on with lane Departure set and adaptive cruise AND you keep your hands off the wheel for approximately 5+ seconds. You shouldn't have your hands off the wheel therefore shouldn't get the message. A crotch rocket? After that comment, I simply cant take your post seriously anymore. The aviator does not sound like a motorcycle. And the ding, no clue.

  22. Batteries will get cheaper, but perhaps with compromises. Telsa and VW are already considering batteries that cost 20% less: https://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2020/02/tesla-in-talks-to-switch-to-different-battery-for-china-model-3-sedans/

  23. Sure, that's after a $7k credit is deducted so you're already above $42k for the base model RWD with smallest battery. Most buyers will need to spend at least $50K to get the vehicle they want. From there, I'd expect the Ford mid-sized crossover to have a similar price structure, the Lincoln and BEV F150 will have premium prices too due to bigger battery packs. i doubt that batteries will get a lot cheaper, there are fixed basic costs to supply and manufacturing that cannot be reduced, that's also why automakers are partnering to secure supply but not buying or building battery plants themselves.

  24. My only concern is how good is the NVH going to be on the Bronco will all these removable doors/panels/whatnot. I don't want it sound like a change jar 5 years down the road

  25. I see one everyday now? Really though, I've only seen a few in the wild. The dealership where I bought mine has seen a surge in Lincoln sales of late. They have one Reserve 1 left of 9 reserves that have arrived since Christmas. The manager is kind of peeved because he has more customer wants than vehicles available. He was picking up two yesterday from other dealers he sold last Saturday. He has 1 more GT on the way and another just got scheduled. The owner was giddy about how many Lincolns he was selling this year (He is a major truck/mustang guy) His Explorers have been going like hot cakes also. 80% of the sales team hit their Feb sales targets by Presidents day.

  26. Yes I did. It is still a little early for a full review, even after reading the owners manual, I'm still discovering how to work things, not so much what it can do, but how to do it. It was the first GT the dealer had seen so they were not up to speed on features and differences of a Reserve. With that said, here is a quick opinion of what I think. It is quick, smooth and luxurious. The quick will take some by surprise, I believe some bloggers/writers called it rough, jerky, unrefined. Total BS, it does lurch out when you hit the gas, it's called instant torque. I felt nothing out of the transmission that was jerky, push the pedal hard and it launches. It takes a little foot control to take off smooth, after an hour of city driving it pretty much comes naturally. I did notice after driving my Bimmer in between a few trips, it did take a second to adjust back to the GT modulation. The ride is awesome, I think it may feel bumps a little more than the non GT due to its weight, but the ride is still beyond anything I've driven lately. One thing I did for a brief ride is put it in excite mode and hit some back road twistys. I will do a lot more when the engine is broke in. Here I think the weight helped, it felt more stable than the Reserve I drove in the same area. Both were great, but I'm a not a fan of small sports cars feel of G-force in every turn. The GT is fast and just feels very planted and comfortable, my daughter in law said "it feels like I should be asking for a glass of wine instead of reaching for the oh sheet handles" as we hit 85. Speaking of speed, it reacts nicely in freeway traffic during passing situations, there is no indication of the extra weight. The electric motor takes over frequently and you can watch on the big screen what is actually going on in the power train. In my line of work, this is just plain cool. I find myself having the car up more than any other screen. My PAAK installed easily after deleting and reinstalling the Lincoln Way App. If you try to connect the PAAK and it takes longer than a minute, cancel, delete the app, re-download and install. I spent a stubborn hour trying to get it work, after doing the re-install it only took 5 minutes to set everything up. The seats are amazingly comfortable as I already new and was a big part of my decision to buy a Lincoln. I did set up two profiles for myself, the road cruise mode (put in 3) and my commute mode where I have them set up like Recaros for my sport like freeway trips (key 1). Not everything is bliss though, the PAAK thinks you are going for a ride every time you walk by with your phone, just like my dog thinking he is going to play when you open the garage door. You can disable it, but I like it getting ready when I do want to drive. Speaking of getting ready, none of the settings save unless you set up a profile, I got the seats just right, pushed the seat 1 button and thought that saved the settings, nope they don't save until you have a profile. Speaking of that, my wife and I can't agree on who is 1 so our cars so sometimes we select the wrong profile. It is easy in the Aviator, the profile setting has a name. I really don't have to say much about MPG as it spends a lot of time idling while I show off the interior. Maybe next week I'll be able to get a good feel. I did try the all electric and got 25 miles with about 25% city and the rest freeway driving. So far I'm very pleased with it, no issues minor or major, panel alignment was good. Give a week or two and I'll update this.

  27. Not to advertise another forum, but there is a 32 page discussion on the Bronco6G forum that actually gets very in depth. I’d recommend anybody who wants to truly discuss it and learn about the differences at least read through the thread.

  28. Just my two cents... if he wants to discuss a SFA, and you guys dont, just dont engage! Quite simple... No one has to be silenced or put in time out just because you guys are tired of hearing it. Just stop talking to him about it. There are plenty of other people here who isn't discussing a SFA that you can engage with. I don't think it's fair to try and control what someone wants to discuss, even you find it annoying. HOWEVER, Steve you shouldn't be making personal attacks, insinuating that they are "stupid" or lack comprehension skills, etc. We're all adults here ❤️

  29. We can have an opinion and discuss the merits of both while having the fact that Bronco will indeed have IFS. We can both acknowledge there is no factual information on if Bronco is better off with IFS or SFA, just differing opinions on what we think is best. If we didn’t discuss features that vehicles were not going to have or do not have then this forum would be pretty boring tbh. Drawing attention due to an opinion and having a discussion is much different than being attacked with nonsense.
    1 point
  30. Sure, but as I previously said SFA has other advantages even if your not building a rock crawler or serious off-roader. Most new Jeeps are indeed mall crawlers which to me shows that SFA is not a deterrent to most casual buyers and keeps the more involved buyer happy. That seems like a win-win to me??

  34. I hope they find a way to differentiate that Expedition dash from the F150 in the next iteration. I don’t mind if the hard points remain the same, but it needs to have better and different trim pieces where possible.

  35. Technically it’s an MCA, but it’s significant for both Expedition and Navigator. I mean the 2021 F-150 is a new generation but it’s not an all new truck with the general footprint and cabs all carrying over. One could say the changes the Expedition and Navigator get are exactly on par with the F-150s changes. Both get new sheetmetal from windshield forward plus, new headlights, grilles and bumpers, plus new rear sheet metal on hatch with new taillights. Inside both get new dashboards and new door panels in front row. Yes the new F-150 dashboard will be shared with the 2022 Expedition. There will be powertrain updates as well but don’t know specifics. It’s honestly nice to see the Expedition and Navigator stay fresh right along with the F-150. No more languishing for these beasts seeing as they make so much money.
