  1. I just wrapped up this painting project in my garage... patiently awaiting my Bronco's arrival. Thought you guys would appreciate it.

  2. They haven’t beaten anybody to market yet. I don’t think Ford is interested in a super high priced low volume BEV truck. I expect F150 to be more mainstream in size and appearance with lower priced options on range and performance. More similar to Rivian. I also think Ford will market it to commercial customers. This looks more like a one off PR stunt.

  3. I agree with most of what you're saying. The only thing I'll say is that the market IS different today, and we're seeing buyers scoop up those ultra high end models, that could lead to a market for a well-done Lincoln pickup. But I think if they're going to do that it should be something Rivian-esque - that's EV, feature/tech laden, etc., not just a rebodied F-150.

  5. Hmm.... interesting. A few random thoughts: 1. Luxury pickups and SUVs, either ICE or EV, are the luxury sedans and supercars of yore. Our perception of status symbol vehicles has changed tremendously over the past few decades. GM seems to be capitalizing upon this. 2. It will be interesting to see if more automakers will have "rugged luxury" lines or brands. 3. If this vehicle is a success, hopefully GM expands the Hummer range to full that "rugged luxury" niche. 4. It will be interesting to see how quickly some of the innovative features on this begin to trickle down into the rest of the GM range. Overall, a solid attempt by GM! It's nice to see automakers make innovative stuff like this instead of just volume sellers (which is my gripe with some brands like Toyota and Honda).

  6. This new GMC Hammer is going to be marketed to the same people driving their kids to school in a Mercedes G-wagen or Range Rover. Or basically, the same kind of people that used to commute in a Hammer H2 before. $100k is very reasonable sum (perhaps a bit on the low side) to the target customers. There will also be a SUV version later to go with this initial pickup version. And based on what I saw, this is a substantive truck... meaning it is a solid effort and packed with good engineering and with performance to backup the look. People already spend up to $80k for a F-150 Raptor so I don't understand why some people here feign surprise at a $80-$110k GMC truck.

  7. Cybertruck from Tesla. Everyone is chiming in about how pricy it is and will it beat Ford to the market and so on, but this is to do battle with Tesla. The Silverado and any bev version of that will be priced in line with the F150. The "luxury trims" of GMC outsell Cadillac, Audi or BMW and have higher transaction prices. There is possible space for this. Citation for this: https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a34345059/gmc-now-sells-more-luxury-vehicles-than-cadillac/

  8. Until the new Navigator came out, Lincoln had zero credibility in the U.S. luxury vehicle market overall. Though Lincoln has a long way to go to become pertinent to a broader base of U.S. luxury vehicle customers, it's headed in the right direction with new, distinctive products that don't look, feel, and drive like clones of Ford vehicles. No reason Lincoln can't succeed marketing and selling a BEV luxury pickup truck. They just need to use the same design fundamentals used for new Navigator and new Aviator - make the vehicles truly distinct from the Ford product in the same category. The demand for luxury pickup trucks is extremely strong, there's plenty of room for more entries in that segment.

  9. Ford's "Build & Price" process requires the user to select a dealership and only refers to placing an actual order with a deposit and makes no reference to a reservation. A dealership's website is now the same without the reservation process. As such, it appears that the reservation system has ended.

  10. GMC may be a wannabe luxury brand but you have to look at how far the GMC brand has come. For decades the GMC brand existed as the third leg of the old Buick-Pontiac-GMC franchise group to provide truck sales in order to help support the Buick-Pontiac dealers. GMC is now a legitimate brand on it's own and establishing it's own loyal customer base. At the same time, for years it was questionable why GM continued to sell pickups through the GMC brand that could have possibly helped Chevrolet be more competitive with Ford based on sales volume.

  11. With some body and refinement polishing(better nvh, better rough road ride, quieter), better tech and functionality, and better build quality, this should keep it st or near top of the class. Im sure now that gm and jeep showed their cards, ford can tune their suvs accordingly.

  12. It looks like GM is targeting the ultra wealthy, status seeking consumer with Hummer. As Dequindre mentioned, high end pickup trucks and SUVs are the "supercar" of today.

  13. For regular charging yes a 240V outlet (need at least 20A circuit) will work fine. The max current it can be charged at is about 16A at 240V. The vehicle comes with a combination charging cord that has a standard 120V plug and a 240V plug (NEMA 6-20R). I have a dedicated Juicebox EV charging station in my garage which I like not just for charging the vehicle but because of the app that gives you live data while charging (voltage and current usage) and also statistics of your all your charge sessions (charge time, KwH used, etc.). I took a screenshot of my fuel economy stats from the Lincoln app if you want some historical data. (see below) That's based on being driven for 8 months and just under 12,000km on it to date. I wouldn't worry about long trips and trying to charge the battery while driving, just drive it normally as you would a regular gas vehicle and fill your gas tank as needed. Once your battery is depleted the engine will take over and it will drive in hybrid mode with the engine providing drive power most of the time. The engine will turn off and switch to either EV or regen braking anytime you take your foot of the gas pedal and decelerate or if you press the brake. Depending on your speed it may even turn the engine off while you're driving and switch to EV for short periods. The transition from engine to EV and vice versa is so seamless you cannot even tell! It is so quiet that most of the time if I'm not actively looking at the power flow screen or the tachometer I can't even tell whether it is running with the engine on or in EV. The Aviator has a Series-Parallel hybrid configuration, so it doesn't need for the battery to be fully recharged while driving because it can power itself with the just the engine, just the electric motor, or any combination of the two. Series hybrids (eg. Chevy Volt, BMW i3) only provide drive power to the wheels by the electric motor so the gas engine acts solely as a generator to recharge the battery and provide electricity to the motor, in these cases the battery does need to be kept charged to certain threshold while driving to provide constant power to the motor. Regarding the temperature extremes I've found the EV range is much more affected by extreme cold than heat. We've had a really hot and humid summer in Toronto this year and I used the A/C all the time and barely noticed any impact on the range at all, I had no problem getting between 35-40km of range on a full charge. However this past winter I did notice about a 25-30% drop in EV range especially on really cold days. Li-Ion batteries are not as efficient in the cold so I'm sure that also has an impact on the range. The A/C system is fully electric and powered off the high voltage battery so it has no problem keeping the cabin cool on hot days. For heating it can heat the cabin electrically if it is not too cold outside but on really cold days the engine will come on for a few minutes when you first start to provide heat or will come on if you turn on defrost or fan speed on high. A nice trick I learned from the OM is to leave the vehicle plugged into the charger overnight and then remote start while still plugged in and it will either preheat or cool the cabin electrically and will do so using the house power instead of draining the battery. You can even use the Lincoln app to program auto start times to so that it will preheat/cool before you leave in the morning which is nice feature.

  16. This thing is awesome. Sure, it will be $100,000+, but it will sell. GM will make less expensive versions of this platform with fewer features and that's where the volume will be. Now we see why GM didn't go ahead with a Wrangler competitor, this is where they have been spending their money. They did beat Ford to market with a BEV 'Super' truck, but I really don't think Ford has the money to do something like this if they wanted too. Sorry to say.......

  17. I've found the PreserveEV mode (at least on my Aviator GT) is definitely not practical to charge the battery after it's fully depleted. I've tried using PreserveEV several times when driving on long trips from Toronto to my cottage up north on Georgian Bay. After running out of initial EV range I switched to PreserveEV mode and even after driving on the highway at a steady speed of 120km/h (74mph) for over an hour it only recharged 8km of electric range to the battery which is pathetic, plus it does hurt your fuel economy numbers because the engine is running constantly even while decelerating or braking whereas driving in normal or conserve modes the engine will generally always turn off and switch to either EV or regen braking anytime you are not actively pushing the accelerator pedal which allows recharge by regen braking. The PreserveEV works much better if the battery is already either fully or partially charged and it will keep it at that level for later use in EV mode. The best way to charge the battery is to just plug in the normal way. For recharge while driving I get much better results with regen braking. In fact a few weeks ago on a trip up north I hit a major traffic jam on the highway and had to detour on some back roads to get around it which led to driving on some really hilly areas. I was able to go long stretches with the engine not coming on so I allowed it to coast down the hills with the regen braking kicking in. The end result is I almost doubled the normal EV range which is normally 34km (21mi) and after getting to my destination my actual distance traveled in EV was 64.3km (40mi). My actual fuel economy for the trip was 6.3L/100km (37.3mpg). (see photo below) Personally I get much better results extending the EV range with regen braking vs. using PreserveEV mode so I've given up using it.

  18. I can't comment on the Black Label experience as we don't have Black Label available here in Canada. As for the vehicle itself, I've had my Aviator GT for about 8 months now and have put about 12,000km on it so far. I love the vehicle overall and the hybrid powertrain. I've made numerous posts in other threads you can read about my experiences with the driving dynamics, charging, towing, etc. Without regurgitating all the comments from my prior posts, the short answer is don't put much stock in all the so called "Reviews" out there regarding the Aviator GT there because they don't do it justice. Look at feedback from current GT owners like myself: @rampagex7; @mustangchief;and @CoolScoop.

  20. https://www.motor1.com/news/449980/2022-gmc-hummer-ev/ lots of info here. Edition 1 comes out in the fall for 112k. Lower priced models will roll out every year through 2024 with the base model coming out in 2024 for 80k. seems like it has some pretty cool off-road features. That last picture shows the adjustable suspension. It also has 18 cameras, including front and rear undercarriage cameras. The removable panels of the roof are see through and can be stored in the frunk (at least that’s what they showed on the video). I don’t care for the hummer grille and the back of the cab, but the interior was nice. I’d like to see a bronco truck with a similar roof. I’d take that for half the price anyday..

  23. It's truly hit or miss as to whether your local Lincoln dealership is good or bad and Lincoln can't control that very much. Mine have been fine so far. However, there is no excuse for Lincoln corporate to not be responsive to complaints and at least attempt to intervene. That is 100% within their control. I would also like to see a no questions asked buyback policy on problem vehicles.

  25. Some of you are out to lunch BTW. The general reception for this truck is overwhelmingly positive. GM will have no problem selling as many as they want to make. And I'm going to say it again in ALL CAPS: $80K STARTING PRICE AND $112,595 FULLY LOADED FIRST EDITION IS NOT EXPENSIVE FOR THE TARGET CUSTOMER. It is in fact cheaper than most of the ICE competition. Mercedes charges a lot more for G63.

  32. Ok Mr. Ford Marketing Manager! The segment keeps growing and growing and nobody knows where the top is and you can bet Ford won't be immune to see what happens with this vehicle. Sure Ford does great in the commercial segment and throughout the F150 lineup but so does GMC and Ram-just as much at the top of the segment or close (I don't have any sales data but this is where GMC has been growing their market share the past few years). GM has the benefit of having 2 brands to sell their trucks and are differentiating them with each updates. I personally would never buy a Chevy, but the GMC is a damn good looking truck and bears little resemblance in many aspects. Personally, I would love for Lincoln to come up with a vehicle that is just not a F150 with a new grill, since I think there is a growing segment for that top end buyer to have something different. One of the best things about a F150 is it has a price range between $30-90k-one of the worst things is it has a price range of $30-90k. Those top end buyers want something more unique and that is why I think the Hummer will do well, depending of course if it is more limited in production and not expecting to sell 100k of these a year.

  33. There's only so much sales potential for the high-end status oriented products, BEV or otherwise. There will always be the impulse buyers and/or those that can afford to buy the new BEV vehicles, whether they be pickups, SUV's or some other type. At the same time, after its decades long sales leadership in pickup sales, Ford understands the pickup market better than anyone and continues to lead the market. Just when the competition thinks its caught up, Ford leapfrogs them with even more features and options that continue to make the F-Series even more appealing. The other manufacturers can introduce their vehicles and sell to their niche market while Ford understands the market better and continues to outperform them all in the real world that counts.

  35. I think this is aimed squarely at the full-fat Range Rover buyer. The RR also has amazing off-road capabilities, which pretty much never get used in this $100k+ vehicle -- long circular drives at country estates is about as much off-road as any of them get. To this set, the high price is a feature, not a bug. I think this will sell well in this segment of the market. The big question, though, is whether this kind of buyer will be thrilled at shopping at a GMC dealership to get one. I expect they'll still do it, but it's not ideal.

  41. From what I have read, if you drive in "preserve ev" mode, the engine will keep your battery at the level that it is at and maybe add a smidge more. It is difficult for the engine alone to charge these lithium batteries. Your engine will certainly never be able to match a 220v outlet, maybe get halfway to 3/4 toward a 110v outlet. If you think about it that it takes 11 hours to charge the battery to full from empty on 110v outlet, it would take longer than that for the engine to do it on its own. People have driven over an hour on the highway and only added on like 1 mile of range. Now, regenerative braking probably adds more, but highway driving won't help you much. You really need to capitalize on the plug in, to get the most out of the GT.

I sincerely doubt that the so called under invoice rhetoric will actually be followed through on...WHY, I ask again, WHY? would a dealer advertise a pre-sold unit at a net loss?...somethings fishy to me, perhaps they are waging success regarding back end financing and warranties etc...but IMO its truly one of the most boneheaded campaigns Ive witnessed...if Im wrong so be it, but that's just bad managerial process and basic bad business sense...so don't be surprised if its smoke and mirrors..it would be along the lines of advertising GT500s at invoice....

  45. Yes sir kyle, you provided a great summary of GM's competitive advantages with Hummer EV truck. GM is very good at designing, building, and marketing pickup trucks. They've traditionally been the #1 seller of pickup trucks in the U.S. (Ford overtook them in 2019, but previously GM was the leader, and GM may regain its lead in 2020). Among the incumbent automakers, GM's BEV development experience is the most extensive. Also, GM is going all-in with BEV now and won't waste time and effort pursuing gasoline-electric hybrids or hydrogen fuel-cells for retail customers. The expected launch date in 2021 for Hummer EV truck should be at about the same time as Rivian R1T, Tesla Cybertruck, Bollinger B2, Atlis XT, and Lordstown Endurance, and before Ford F-150 BEV, Nikola Badger, and Fisker Alaska. I agree Hummer EV truck will be a big hit. Pickup trucks are the hottest light vehicle segment right now and BEV is one pillar of the automotive industry's whole future. Combining the 2, as Hummer EV truck does, is a game changer.
