  1. Come on akirby - you know that’s not apples/apples - the kayak has to knock at least a couple of mpg’s off the 2009’s rating.

  4. As Ford stock has trouble staying in the 8 to 12 dollar range Tesla is on its way up again after the split, currently at almost $600. I'll take the ride up and get out when it tumbles down. Meanwhile Ford stock struggles along as always.

  5. Should've read as "2-hours of charging (and in a hushed, whispering tone) and 15 minutes at the fuel pump topping off the gas tank = 520 miles of driving. I like that ratio." But you know those Madison Avenue types....

  6. Wow when compared to the old Escape the picture is much rosier. It's all about perspective!

  7. Bronco Sport probably has a softer tire compound too which compared to the super hard compounds they tend to favor normally will hurt fuel economy

  8. Could be as simple as the escape having highway eco tread and the bronco having a big more rugged AT tire? Combine that with a boxier shape, and maybe a heavier, tougher suspension system...

  9. People worried about fuel economy shouldn't be looking for broncos, they should be looking at the Escape.

  10. It's pretty obvious to me. You can't buy stock in the company which has nearly unlimited cushy govt contracts for flying rockets, so you buy stock in the next best thing: their sister company. Nothing that Tesla does or has is worth even a fraction of their current market cap.

  11. Happy Thanksgiving from Canada to all of my American Ford worker counterparts! Stay safe!

  12. Coolant leakage between bores. Here's the thread on mine. https://blueovalforums.com/forums/index.php?/topic/68329-2018-25k-15l-eb-coolant-loss/&tab=comments#comment-1082873 TSB's exist for both 1.5's and 2.0's HRG

  13. I'd expect it to be a matter of when, not if, although probably not for at least a few years when they do an update.

  14. No different than consumers. When money is tight maintenance is the first thing to go. It’s an immediate cost reduction with the potential for higher costs in the future. It takes a very disciplined management team to hold the line and invest in quality up front. I think Farley will do that. Think about how many new drivetrains, platforms and technology features Ford has introduced the last 10 years, it’s mind boggling. Hopefully they’re done with new things and can focus on improvements and refinements,

  15. I've been at my job a long time. From where I stand, quality has been steadily dropping since 2012/2013. It is probably as bad as I have ever seen it in 27 years. Let's be honest here, when quality falls, they take dollars out of the service department's pockets. Labor time cuts, parts handling cuts, TSB's that only exist to cut labor times to the bone. More and more hoops for the technician (RVC's, SSSC involvement, etc) that do not pay more for the same job. Flat out claim denial for the stupidest reasons. That is going to drive even more experienced people out, making service for an already bastardized vehicle worse for the consumer.

  16. JHC, that chart doesn't prove your point whatsoever. The chart I posted does prove my point. That chart demonstrates that, by an actual measurable metric (warranty costs as a percentage of sales) that Ford's costs were actually higher in late 2010, then essentially flat in the period from 2011 - 2015, after which the inexorable climb began. The CR chart, which is of questionable statistical value at best, doesn't prove your point.

  17. What’s a key fob? Phone as a key and proximity sensors is the way of the future. Customers shouldn’t have to fumble around when their hands are full to unlock ALL doors. Wonder if Ford will remove the hands free lift gate on SUV’s next? Content matters, and Ford has been de-contenting for years to save costs. This certainly hasn’t decreased warranty expense and it’s not the primary purpose of de-contenting.

  18. If Ford is cutting out the ability to open the rear doors by touching the rear door handle sensor they are making a mistake. We have a baby and most of the time we are opening the rear doors on our Edge first to put her in. When you're carrying a child in a carseat and a diaper bag, not needing to fumble around with the keyfob or go for the front door handle first to get the rear doors open is an overlooked convenience that I am sure many parents appreciate and will miss when it is gone. I am happy to hear Farley is finally tackling warranty costs but sad to see more boneheaded cost-cutting from Ford.

  19. I’m glad that Farley is onto this early in his term, I’m sure that this has been well discussed internally and now being implemented. Ford is being flogged by quality costs, you bet they’re listening now, I pray that Ford is a little less fit and a damned site more diligent.

  21. You want to control warranty costs? Go back to the old Rouge days when the raw materials came in the back door and the finished car came out the front. Oh it would cost too much now you say?! Not compared to what they're paying in warranty costs! Not compared to the land and train stations.they're buying. Full control! And every day an inspector would walk around and watch everything. There used to be a time when the Japanese car company TV ads would compare quality to their Japanese counterparts and amazingly Ford would also be mentioned. But nowadays? The Japanese car companies only compare their cars to other Japanese companies. I remember the sarcasm or snobbishness back in the 1960's when GM gave Japanese car entrepreneurs a tour of their factories and one guy whispered off to the side, "These guys won't be able to build cars like we do." In a way he was right, but for the wrong reason. Yeah, right!! The Japanese don't build crap! Will Ford and GM ever be on top in quality? Even Mazda, which Ford owned, is above Ford! I think it's above Toyota and Nissan now! Sad, very sad! I'm a Ford guy! But how much more baloney can I take?!

  25. Bronco Sport is a "transitional" model. Expect a modest MCE down the road, but the slot will be filled by something else at the end of this model's lifespan. Without a major shift, I wouldn't expect to ever see a Bronco Sport Hybrid.
