  1. That's nice and all but that doesn't mean the technology is remotely close to being ready for mass consumption Do you really expect a government that can't even handle an economic stimulus Package to be able to successfully navigate rolling out autonomous vehicles? I sure as hell don't.

  5. That's what some of these "leaders" don't understand. They were elected to lead us, the citizens of the United States. They weren't elected to lead the world. My tax dollars should not be sent to pay for gender studies in Pakistan. That's a Pakistan problem, not a USA problem.

  6. This quote reminds me of a story from a few years ago. A Chicken produce factory was raided by ice, and a ton of illegal immigrants ended up getting arrested and (I'm guessing deported). You know who took those newly open jobs? Local, black Americans. This creates multiple benefits for our country: Our own citizens now off or taking reduced welfare... being productive and contributing to the economy.... and in turn paying taxes to support the system. It sucks those immigrants lost their jobs... but we have to take care of our own citizens first before we take care of other foreign peoples. What does it say about our country if we're willing to let Americans go unemployed, while we import undocumented labor to work under the table, below the minimum wage?

  7. Speaking of skateboards, it's actually cheaper to ship American wood to Asia, have it crafted into a board, then shipped all the way back across that great ocean to sell in America, than it is to just pay an American in America to perform the work. Makes it hard to justify local manufacturing jobs... butt that's what happens when you allow foreign governments to dump cheap, slave-produced product into your country without trade protections.

  11. We here in the USA seem to be the only democratic republic that puts its populations concerns on a to do list, while being ever so concerned about every other populations concerns. Then at times we used to put other countries down for trying to put their own population first. It`s a given the USA is and has been forever the number one giving population in the world. Granted there are needs and concerns all over the world and the countries with these needs and concerns know which country to send their delegations too for the bushel baskets of aid. But, in the recent past we the USA population stepped in front of the mirror and saw a population that... had needs and concerns, also. Did we reevaluate cerntain organizations? Did the reevaluation come amidst an organizations positive results from the intended work the organization was established to preform? The WHO comes to mind. Reevaluation of multiple somewhat automatic check writing was only seen by some of the USA population as non USA, terrible or bad. But to those that finally recived some help this their issues and concerns here in the USA population instead of the... we`ll look into it, promised or it`s forth coming responces from years of the help the world crew. It became a view of those that looked in the mirror in the last four years and saw the need to responce with, charity starts at home. People out of work? People facing lack of food? People living on the streets? Childred not getting the daily minimums of nutrition? People working, living in their cars and unable to take care of their basis family needs? Where are these issues and concerns? In a country that is returning to help the world, first. 80 million of the population of this republic want to live in the make believe world of California?

  12. Sorry for the smokescreen, guys. This was happening on an early modulation of CD6. It had a hybrid powertrain driving the front wheels and independent electric motors on the rears. The idea was to go from a pretty sensible normal car in FWD to an absolute torque monster in RWD or AWD with a rear wheel bias. I *believe* that some of the battery packaging accommodations survived into the production version of CD6, but this project didn't have a big name lobbying for it at the end.

  14. Or even the costs of making roads smarter to let AVs drive on them...your talking billons of dollars. Most local governments barely can afford to keep potholes out of "dumb roads" There is far too much cost involved to make it worthwhile. Its like smoking...it bad for your health, but taxes it generates are too much for the government to get rid of. I'd much rather be able to drive my own damn car most of the time instead of giving that up....too many people (well people that can afford cars) aren't willing to completely give up all control over a vehicle. Its going to take a few generations to make that possible...and not to mention the current way laws are written are not compatible with what could happen with AVs. You could bankrupt a manufacture with lawsuits that stem from AV accidents.

How many of those do we make here in the USA? Of course the enlightened ones will still have armored cars and private jets. Suburbs will be closed so we can return to the city in Democrat harmony

  18. A valid point. I guess the concern of others outside the company leaking stuff is they can't control the narrative like they can with the internal "accidental" leaks.

  19. They need to do that anyway but not sure this has anything to do with it. I think the suppliers are just as excited as we are about the new products. Don’t forget Ford has its own internal leaks (2021 Nautilus Interior......)

  21. For all this to happen, consumers actually have to buy BEVs. Other than Tesla, no one is buying them. The Bolt and Leaf are sales failures. Not sure how many are buying Plugins, but doesn't seem much. Mach E seems promising, but so far a modest start. Hybrids have had some sales success, but still modest compared to ICE. With gas still around $2, it will be very difficult to get most drivers out of their ICE vehicles. If you only sell electric, then drivers will turn to USED ICE. IMO, it will take a $3 gas tax to get drivers out of their ICE vehicles. And the politics of that are dubious at best. So talking about building 50,000 charging stations is a moot point if no one willingly buys BEVs. And without a huge gas tax, no one will in numbers to support 50,000 charging stations.

  25. GM did indeed pay off one of the loans it got from the government, but overall, the U.S. taxpayers lost 11.2 billion dollars on the bail-out. It all came down to stock price. The stock price had to rise to a certain level (I forgot what it was) for the taxpayers to break-even, or make money. But the Feds wanted out of the GM deal so sold the stock early, below the break-even price, resulting in the 11.2 billion dollar loss. https://time.com/82953/general-motors-bailout-cost-taxpayers-11-2-billion/

  26. Not quite true. If the allegation was phrased, "GM paid back all its debt to the U.S. Government," then that would be true. GM did repay all of the loans -- early in fact -- from the bailout. The problem is that as a part of the bailout the Treasury also bought a boat load of new GM stock, knowing that it was paying a much higher price than the stock was worth. When it came time for the Treasury to sell off that stock they ended up losing over $10 billion (I seem to remember the final number of the loss was somewhere between $11 billion and $12 billion). So yeah, that's a great deal as far as GM was concerned. Not so much for the U.S. taxpayer. Here's a link: https://www.fool.com/investing/general/2013/09/15/why-gm-still-owes-taxpayers.aspx

  27. TRX is 700 lbs heavier than the EB V6 Raptor, the SC V8 Raptor will kill it. Yes, as an apex predator, the V8 Raptor will stand on its merits.

  28. My guess earlier in this thread sounds feasible. That has been my theory this whole time, a two pronged approach. They don't want to neglect/remove the lower end of the Raptor price range. Lord knows the supercharged V8 version will cost a pretty penny and probably be a limited edition (5-10K a year). My bet the V6 will be cheaper than TRX and be closer to matching the performance of the TRX than the current version. At least that is my hope. Can't wait for the 2nd.

  31. It is a narrative because they control what gets seen and when.

  32. It's definitely an odd statement. Unique implies something either incredibly rarely done or taken at face-value never before done. Natural gas hybrid? BEV+Fuel cells? A fucking wind sail? I wanna know!
    1 point
  33. True but even the leaks that are from Ford, when asked about them, all they say is “we do not comment on future products” or something similar. There never is a narrative. You are probably right. Heck this entire story seems contrived. Get people talking about leaks and not the 3 million vehicles you’re now forced to recall.

  34. I'm a fan of the horizontal screen alignment. It was kind of surprising to see the new S-Class ditch their horizontal screen for a more vertical alignment; the S-Class was one of the earlier vehicles to adopt the horizontal screen.

  36. It's quite simple. The "official" leaks are well timed and part of an overall PR campaign leading up to vehicle launch. And they only show things that Ford wants you to see at that point in time. Supplier leaks throw off the timing and may reveal more than what Ford wants to reveal at that point in time. Bottom line is - it's up to Ford to decide what they leak and when, not a supplier who's already agreed under contract not to do that. And even though the Maverick leaks may not be that damaging, it could set a bad precedent for future leaks that could actually do damage.

  37. New product leaks actually distract from Ford’s other quality nightmares and bad launches, that’s why they should leak like a sieve...

  38. Maybe if they treated their suppliers better this wouldn't be the issue it is.

  39. Soul. Something the V8 gives the Mustang. I don't listen to the stereo in mine, the V8 produces all the music I need. No amount of pumped in fake sound will ever be able to replace that. I know an EV Mustang will be faster and cheaper to run, but many people buy Mustangs with their hearts, not their heads. I'm not against an EV Mustang (well, at least one that keeps it pony car roots.......2+2, long hood, short deck, fastback or convertible)........but given the choice of a V8 or an EV, I'll take the V8 every time. When the V8 is no longer available, I'll embrace the EV version
