  1. Here's some pics of it next to a Ranger. You can really make out the small size in these pics: https://www.motor1.com/news/497528/ford-maverick-size-spy-shots/

  4. You can definitely see the difference in ride height. Maverick is going to be similar to the old Ranger and Hilux with its car-like suspension height. The biggest change in mid and full size truck in the last 20 years is the ride height... improvements in fuel economy means even the RWD trucks now come with 4WD stance. Look at how low they used to ride compare to the current generation of Ranger and Hilux/Tacoma... Maverick is really a return to form for compact trucks.

  7. Greetings all from Vancouver Island, BC Canada, New to the forums, like others, not new to Fords.. A bit about me. Apprenticed at a Ford body shop as a bodyman in the later half of the 70's. Got to drive and see many new Ford cars and trucks in my time there. I got to restore tons of old Mustangs and Camaros in my time. A few concourse show Mustangs too.. 1 Pantera and the Ford dealer owners sons 69 Mach 1 also! My last restore was a 79 Z28 a couple years ago. I was bored and needed to keep busy. Started out with a 71 Pinto 2.0 4 speed. Painted it race red and had the local paint on pinstriper go over it. Pretty cool back in the day, (imo) with some wide boots on the back.. in 78 we had a 79 Ranchero traded in and sent to the BS for a large dent repair in the drivers door. Fell in love with it, and bought it . Kind of a burgundy, burnt orange color. Repainted without the stripes, and we had just gotten into clearcoat, so I was excited to get that on. Sure looked pretty... Sold it when I needed cash for my 1st home.. (18.5%) in 82. Experienced a 69 Torino GT 390 auto.. (Mustangs) 65 FB, 69 Grande, 95 GT, 05 GT and am waiting on a 21 Mach1 now. Build date is the week of April 5th . My retirement gift to myself! Anyways, thanks for reading.. And have a great day!

  8. I'm thinking that the Voltswagen thing is like when International House of Pancakes changed to International House of Burgers. I think it is just a publicity stunt to raise awareness of VW's new direction and not meant to be a serious change.

  11. WTF is with Jobabbles???? This Bama PHD idiot is still walking around with two masks on even though he’s fully vaccinated. Hasn`t come in close contact with anyone for 30 years. (well maybe some Chinese officials) Jobama sir… you gotts two of those shots momma Jill told you to get so stop with the oh oh oh mask up mask up and be Jobama`s good grandkids…. Take your meds and stop the babbling!!! It is wearing thin Jobama… the bullshit about masks is not pulling 50% of Americans attention away from your total f**k up`s from day one. I know it`s just my opinion but like butt holes everyone has one…. This was and interesting opinion, in my opinion. "Desperate times call for desperate measures. What follows is a modest proposal for how to mobilize a functional majority of Americans into a united front to oppose the leftocratic plan to void U.S. sovereignty, weaken the U.S. workforce, and dilute the voting power of U.S. citizens. Remember, the unlimited immigration at the southern border will result in the suppression of wages across the entire country, and a path to citizenship for more than 10 million illegal immigrants and a huge power shift in politics." "Who will be hurt the most by these predictable leftocratic policy effects? The people who live at the lower end of our economy today — African Americans, Hispanics, and Working-Class citizens of all colors, races and religions. Unfortunately, many of those people are captive members of the leftocratic party’s voting bloc and have tacitly granted approval to the very policies that will decimate their communities. Thanks in part to the those told how to vote, in particular, leftocrats have won the White House and both chambers of congress, and are seeking ways to solidify that political clout for decades. That strategy includes not just the plan to grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants, but also the election scheme codified in HR 1 that will make it much more difficult for repubbs (bad people) to win the White House." "Why....? as an example, would anyone propose banning the use of an ID to verify your right to vote? It makes no sense. (well, leftocratic sense) The only possible reason would be to protect the ability of people to vote who don’t have a right to do so in the first place. Do you think it’s any coincidence that the leftocrats are trying to do so just as millions of illegal immigrants are crossing the border? Daily since Jobama was reminded where to get sworn in at. I don’t." (ok so, I did some editing) But, I agree with the opinion.

  13. You are correct on your assumptions with the HN80 program. In reality, Ford's return on investment in F650 and larger was terrible, quite frankly. (Can't even say "return" on investment, really, given many years were in the red.) Even to this day the F600-750 program is a drag on the company and nearly all my former co-workers at Ford wonder why they still bother with it. Quite frankly, a small group of truck execs use the scare tactic to keep that program going. They claim if the F600-750 trucks go away, it will hurt F250-550 sales. Many people, including me, don't buy that theory. The Sterling brand was mis-managed from the start. Freightliner bought them because they were known as the "highway truck" and wanted to do better in vocational. They didn't think they could convince people Freightliner could make a vocational truck and felt they needed a vocational brand. Shockingly, instead of sinking their resources and money into doing that with sister-company Western Star, they decided to buy the Ford trucks and create Sterling. For some reason, at that time, Western Star and Freightliner were running as two separate companies and not working together, despite being owned by the same people. (Daimler.) Western Star had a small, crappy dealer network so they said screw it, we'll make a new brand and get some other vocational dealers (the Ford stores) to retail vocational trucks instead. Fast-forward 10 years after that, with very little investment into Sterling during that time, EPA '07 and EPA '10 updates were on the horizon. Daimler needed $500M to create a new cab for Sterling if they wanted to keep the brand. They said screw it and now we'll just make vocational trucks with Freightliner instead. (So the 114SD and 122SD were born.) Now another 10 years later, Freightliner is finally working with Western Star and jointly doing a "divide and conquer" approach on the vocational side. Western Star has slowly been eliminating their small, crappy dealers in favor of doing dual-branded Freightliner and Western Star stores. With that, Freightliner is now stepping back from the "Premium 8" market by discontinuing the 122SD next year, and they put all their money into the new Western Star 49X/47X programs which will replace the 4900/4700. (The 49X was just released a few months ago, 47X is next year.)

  14. I wonder if I will be able benefit from 47 years of paying into a public annuity (social security) and a private annuity (Ford pension plan) if all the Jobama new deals are put in place without sucking the life out of the private economy that was the foundation of the republic`s founding members thought for a free and self governing population. "Tax and Spend" was the credo but now its moving to "failure, no problem, just allocate more tax money".... https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/29/climate/biden-climate-stimulus.html?algo=combo_lda_newslettersize5_unique_edimp_fye_step50_diversified&block=1&campaign_id=142&emc=edit_fory_20210329&fellback=false&imp_id=658046737&instance_id=28624&nl=for-you&nlid=73667102&rank=1&regi_id=73667102&req_id=532654882&segment_id=54463&surface=for-you-email-wym&user_id=4bed6f0bf23bfa9eb5ced37c54a9ff00&variant=2_combo_lda_newslettersize5_unique_edimp_step50_diversified https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/29/us/wind-power-ny-nj.html?campaign_id=60&emc=edit_na_20210329&instance_id=0&nl=breaking-news&ref=headline&regi_id=73667102&segment_id=54434&user_id=4bed6f0bf23bfa9eb5ced37c54a9ff00 Who would have thought the New York Times would be printing up encrypted stories.... close to or at 30 trillion in debt before the kinda true pandemic. Jobama has spent more in his first hundred days than the most liberal of minded presidents in the last half century.

  15. I had a 71 2 door with vinyl roof in 83, 302 auto. Paid $400 for it found $450 in aluminum foil in the trunk right after I bought it. Gave that back to lady I bought it from. Coworker’s mom had it, mom died and hid money. That was a great running car, but the roof had rot.

  16. If Ford made a mistake exiting the heavy truck business, it was their timing. In retrospect, they should have sold out before starting the HN80 program. From what I understand, HN80 was late and over budget, and I suspect Freightliner would not have paid that much less for the operation without the New Louisville trucks. Freightliner wanted the dealer network more than anything else, and though the HN80 had some potential it never materialized into a really great truck. Certainly nothing like the 1970 Louisville was. It was ironic that 'Sterling' never went anywhere, and a big reason for that was Freightliner's own growth in vocational class 7/8. Yeah, I though the Brazilian Cargo would have been a good addition to Ford's N.A. truck range, but it never happened. The larger Otosan trucks would never fly here. I have a feeling that Otosan will eventually team up with Traton............

  17. Unfortunately, that is the generalization of labeling in the minds of a large group of people. For years if you worked at the southside Ford plant and said you live in Indiana most all just assumed you lived in Lake Co. or Gary proper. This generalization is used really well by a large group of elected people to benefit their points of view. It`s used currently to prop up the division we see between every generalized group in our country. This bill is in fact using this generalization by putting in the words "tax the use of", this starts the divide. The elected people want it that way so the thinking that may occur, may because it will be most likely the short sided thinking at best from a large group of nonelected people that... occurs so often. If one puts to thought, the wording "tax the use of" our former Indiana Mayor is using, one will eventually figure out the game plan of those long term elected people that have coached the newly appointed bassinet member to put forth as a bill to of course make america great again (opp`s sorry) I meant make America Work Better for everyone. Anyway with a little bit of thought one will see the ground work being laid in place. How easy will it be to get the needed support for your latest trogon horse but to put the red neck`s and the gypsy` against the rich and against those that drive all over to see the country. Gypsy`s and red neck`s will say let the rich pay the tax with thier big expensive Tesla`s besides they don`t pay for gas anyway... then a group of auto workers might say I only live 15 miles from the plant so that wont be that bad. Then all the other, I don`t drive that much elected people groupies. Then.... there`s the group that never think about anything other than how they should vote for it because.... he`s a democrap like us... Mile tax is never thought about other than someone else will have to pay it....until their bag a Jay`s, Moon Pie and Coke go up in price...(gypsy`s and red necks like those snacks). Not to mention all the "I didn`t vote for that" group that believed their newest big wooden horse is for fun. But generally speaking I think the tornado and the paint dude are the participants in the small group of people that does that thingy those former mayors from Indiana doesn't want us people in general to do...

  19. I knew Jac Nasser was CEO when the decision was made and executed, I've just always wondered why. Why walk away from the business the company spent decades cultivating and had become a major player in? I understand many of the decisions Nasser made were unpopular at the time and didn't age well either.

  22. The Mach-e is a beautiful vehicle and is an example of what a good BEV could be. But, there are a lot of issues that BEVs must overcome before they will be accepted by the mass market. These issues will take time, so a 20-30 year time frame isn't unrealistic. 1) Range anxiety. Consumers are not going to be comfortable driving a vehicle with less than 300 mile range. 2) Lack of charging stations. This couples with range anxiety. The infrastructure for BEVs has a long way to go. In addition, not everyone has a garage where they can charge their vehicle overnight, i.e., what do people do who live in apartments? 3) Length of time to charge batteries. Again, this goes with range anxiety and lack of infrastructure. Consumers aren't going to wait 45 minutes to an hour or more at a charging station. 4) Cost. A Mach-e is a very nice vehicle. But for $56,000 for an extended range and AWD, is out of reach for most consumers. 5) Technology. Battery technology is in middle of changing. With the introduction of solid state batteries in the next 5 years or so, could obsolete current BEVs. Incentives and government policy aren't enough to move consumers into BEVs. BEVs have to be as convenient as ICE powered vehicles. They also need style, features, performance, etc. that consumers want to pay for.

  23. Ford did have their own "bullet proof" diesels - the 401/6.6 and 474/7.8 engines were used in those trucks alongside Cat/Cummins/DD diesel power and FE/385 gassers. Those Ford diesels started in 1965 ag tractors and continued in various forms through about 2008 in New Holland stuff before emissions finally mandated a switch to the current Fiat-supplied motors. Anyways, the 6.6 and 7.8 in trucks seem to be regarded as slow (but what wasn't back in the days of 200 hp Class 7 trucks?) but very reliable. I never understood why Ford just walked away from that business and that engine line specifically. Why was it the IH V8 diesel that went in pickups starting in the 80s instead of Ford's successful in-house 6.6L?

  29. The proportions were all wrong on the Crosstour. The rear 1/4 had too much vertical space and made the butt look huge. It's not just the Crosstour... that generation of Accord sedan was also ungainly with poor visual graphics. Concept was right but Honda didn't execute properly.
