  1. Heard you guys like photos. Here are a few of mine from the Cleveland event. My order was originally for Area 51 but I couldn’t get over how good Cactus Gray looked in person. I made the switch this week. Never thought I’d consider it but it was a real beauty up close.

  2. No you’re missing the point. It’s a defect in material and/or workmanship. Guess what warranties cover? Defects in material or workmanship. Some defects show up within a few thousand miles. Some show up at 50k and others past 100k. Some are design issues. Some are bad components. Why something fails or how many units are affected doesn’t change anything. A defect is a defect. Is it covered by the factory warranty and Ford ESPs? Yes, Is Ford honoring the warranty? Yes. Is it disappointing that Ford has not yet extended the warranty for free? Yes. Is Ford obligated to extend the warranty? No. You act like this shouldn’t be a warranty issue but this is the exact thing warranties are designed for.

  3. I don’t think we are defending the engineering problem that created this situation. Also, we don’t know the percentage of vehicles this truly effects. I think some of us are being real about it. The buyer knows what the warranty is. If they aren’t comfortable with it buy an extended warranty, trade it in before warranty expires, or buy something else with a longer warranty. in a perfect world Ford would cover the costs post warranty expiration. However, they are in no way required to at this point. It’s possible in the future they may but not at this point. Is it a crap sandwich? Sure but it’s the gamble you take buying a new vehicle...especially once out of warranty.

  4. Analysts crack me up. Farley has been CEO for less than 6 months. Everything we are seeing today was started under Hackett.

  5. Agreed. I think the biggest thing here is that most take it for granted a vehicle should make it to 100k with minimal maintenance. Everyone knows what the warranty is when they buy a vehicle. If anything, this just shows how buying a vehicle can be a gamble when it comes to problems.

  6. I've done some house cleaning and consolidation and added in a few new items to take notice of. Please review the items below for changes / updates. 1.) I request that you subscribe to this thread if you haven't already. Click the little button at the top that says "Watch topic". That way I'll get no frantic responses from any of you that don't keep up with this and ask me a million requests when I am gone or on vacation that I have already said I won't be available. You will be automatically notified as long as you have your forum / board settings set up properly. 2.) There are a number of you that have come to this forum for only the purpose of tracking and have in a sense spammed the forums with silly banter in order to fluff up your post count to get in here and demand some tracking action. I would think that if tracking was that important, many of those of you would have read my rules and responded accordingly. I know how you feel ... it is just like Terms of Service agreements or software piracy acknowledgments - you know, those agreements in software programs that scroll on forever that those people ask you to read, but you don't and you just click "agree" anyway to get to quickly click on the next prompt. Humor me and read each and every rule. I ask for a reason and there are so many rule breakers I'm close to my wits end with a lot of you. The rules are here to assist me in helping you - that is it. 3.) If you break a rule, I am no longer going to give you a kind reminder. I am simply just going to ignore your request. If you find you are being ignored, then you did something wrong. Figure it out. Re-read the rules you were supposed to have read in the first place. Then, once you are ready to comply properly, you can re-bump your thread properly. I am not going to respond until you do. 4.) I am sorry, but some of you are taking extreme advantage of my generosity and this free service I offer on my own time. Those that do are ruining it for everyone else. From now on: Absolutely no more than ONE (1) update per tracking thread, per week. I don't care if you are in the process of shipping, or have started production. You plan it out when you want to hear from me, but no more than once per week. I don't care if your lease is expiring and you need to know tracking info so you aren't left without a vehicle. Get a clue - If you are to the point where you need to know where your vehicle is in production because you may/will be left without a vehicle to drive - you have definitely already screwed up and have extremely poor planning that even I can't help you with. 5.) All PMs asking about tracking, information or updates will be deleted no questions asked. I thought this was clear, but apparently it is not. I don't care if you can't figure out how to post in this forum. No PM's about tracking or updates, period! 6.) I am not ignoring you, but at the same time I am not baby sitting your vehicle tracking either. If you want an update, bump your thread. If I haven't gotten to it in a few days, please re-bump - it may have fallen off my list of new updated topics. 7.) If you start to become annoying by wanting timely minute-by-minute updates of any minor thing that happened during your production run or shipment - please stop posting and see your dealer. I am not a service, I do this in what little free time I have because I want to. Please don't make me not want to do this anymore. If you respect my free time, I'll respect your request - it is pretty simple. You don't own me and I don't have to respond. 8.) I have to be at work to do this and I'll typically handle most requests in the morning. Don't ask me for a weekend update because you won't get it. 9.) If I have previously given you an update and in that update there was a specific date listed of something to happen next in the production run, please don't ask me for any more updates until that date has passed. I waste a ton of time with folks wanting updates to production dates I have given you when that date hasn't even happened yet - there won't be any changes. Please be smart about it. 10.) I am not the plant, delivery system, production scheduler or your dealership. Don't ask me to estimate any type of dates or time frame for you, or why things are such and such or taking so long. I can't and won't. There are a million and one variables in what happens with your order - things take as long as they take. 11.) I provide vehicle locator updates - status updates that can be found in your vehicle visibility report. That is it. Don't ask me to provide you with anything other than that, i.e.: no build sheets, no window stickers, no production schedules, no rail car information, no rail car numbers, etc. 12.) Do not make multiple threads for updates. Stick to one thread per VIN / Dealer Code-Order Number for updates. You want to follow a second car you have ordered, make a new thread for that vehicle. Repeat, do not make multiple threads for the same vehicle - even if you've provided incorrect information the first time. Just correct your mis-information in an update to your thread. I will get sick of figuring out which one I need to respond to and just not respond to any of your threads. 13.) I am a human, not an internet robot. I appreciate civility and I enjoy pleases and thank yous. However, please keep the extra chitchat outside of tracking info to a minimum because it helps me sort through threads I haven't upated yet and ones I have. 14.) I do not want anything in return for this. However, after all this work for you, my only payoffs are, 1 - knowing you are happy, and 2 - seeing that final picture of the vehicle I helped you follow for weeks on end. Please don't forget the photo. I love that. 15.) I need a valid VIN, or dealer code and order number to track your order. Please quadruple check the numbers you provide me. I know they are a long string of numbers and letters, but reporting those numbers right the first time will makes us both happier. 16.) When you bump your threads looking for more info, please repost your VIN (or Dealer Codes and Order Number) within your bump. 17.) Do not come here looking for information if you don't have either a VIN or proper, correct Dealer Code AND Order Number. Don't try to give me a Dealer Code with your vehicle description and expect me to find your vehicle. In most cases it is a needle in a haystack. Without both - forget it. If you have your DORA, the Dealer Code and Order Number are both on there, do me a favor and give me both or forget it. Also know this, most dealerships order multiple vehicles -even different types, under the same Order Number, so I will need a description of your vehicle along with your Dealer Code AND Order Number - such as: type, engine, trans, body style, that is it. Don't give me packages or trim levels, those things don't mean squat to me and are not listed in the Visibility Report as trim levels, just a laundry list of options. 18.) I am only a minor admin on this sub-forum, I have no control over how it works and how you get here. I can organize threads and close topics, but I am mostly just a user like the rest of you. Forget all the conspiracy theories of what I am doing to you in why you can't post here or your threads disappearing or whatever related to how the forum works, it is just all B.S.. 19.) If I give you a status and it is Unscheduled-Clean, that means you have a successful order in the system and it isn't currently scheduled for production. When you are in Unscheduled-Clean status I will provide updates no sooner than every two weeks, providing you bump your thread properly. There are a multitude of reasons why something doesn't progress quickly from that status to the line. It has to do with production schedules, plant availability, ordering priority numbers, where you live and that region / dealerships specific allowed allocation segments for that vehicle. I have seen Unscheduled-Clean status stay that way for weeks and weeks on end - even as long as 6 months depending on the availability of what you are ordering and speed of the plant, etc. etc. If you are upset about your vehicle being Unscheduled-Clean for an extended period, you need to work with your salesperson to try to adjust your order priority or find out what period your allocation unit is limited to. 20.) Enjoy yourself. If these updates start making you angry or hostile, or your attitude is making me angry or hostile, please go elsewhere and blow off some steam. Thanks as always. Any comments will be deleted.

  8. From my understanding the exhaust brake in auto the computer controls it more and is more effective when also using cruse control. With the exhaust brake on, non auto, it is always on and not controlled by what the computer thinks you need. Second eco mode smooths out throttle response, you will find the truck does not accelerate as hard or as fast in eco mode. I can not notice any difference when driving down the highway in eco or normal.

  9. It’s still a compact but the short overhangs front and rear throws off perception of actual size. And you’re right, this could be anything but maybe signals that the most space efficient design going forward is to place a wheel at each corner of BEVs, the same way as the British Mini did in the 1960s. A design like that offers a ton of interior space in a smaller outside package but it also gives a longer wheelbase big car ride in a compact vehicle, a big selling point.

  12. I had decided on Cactus Gray and my dealership happened to have a Cactus Grey Ranger and Bronco Sport on the lot when I showed up to order. I really liked the color, especially after seeing it on Ranger which also had Magnetic Wheels. I was told they had a Area 51 Sport on order. I went ahead and ordered Cactus Gray and told them I may switch once I get to see Area 51 in person. The other day, the Area 51 Sport arrived and I finally got to see it in person. I liked it, but still liked Cactus Gray better!

  18. JP...Well 3mos HD trucks are virtually double last years quarter. Any clue what F-600 sales were in that huge gain. As I think we all agree, F-600 at 22,000 GVW with a more "driver friendly" cab will for sure dominate the "bed bug" market (U-haul). But I still say a non CDL driver in a 26,000lb chassis will continue to be a very popular truck.-in particular when it comes to dump trucks aa well as ability to SAFELY pull and STOP trailers. Think Paccar spent a lot of money on KW without a good feel for the medium market? I have to say the F-600's frame reinforcement is a bit of a turnoff for me when I look at the straight one piece rails on the GM/Navistar trucks. Then again, I gather there is a lot of experience with that reinforcement on 450/550s for bucket truck installs so hopefully my fears are unfounded.

  19. New vehicle inventory at my dealership, as of this morning. Bronco Sport 6 EcoSport 4 Edge 9 Escape 9 Expedition 1 Explorer 14 F-150 12 Fusion Hybrid 2 Mustang 2 Ranger 3 Super Duty 4 Transit 3 Transit Connect 5 Inventory above includes a number of sold units that either haven't been delivered or purged from the online inventory yet.

  20. That's a lot. Around me if a dealer has 5 that's a lot. When I got my new car a month ago the dealer only had 1 Ranger on the lot. Went back a few weeks later for the Bronco event and they had none. Walked the entire lot looking for one.

  24. No doubt it will but in those classes I think a lot of operators are willing to pay a premium just to keep good drivers. Interesting that the article mentioned class 4 and then in another section it stated lower end was class 5-so one way or another a typo. And talk about catering to the market-they will have two cab heights with one 3 or 4 inches lower for certain applications where cab height is an issue.

  25. That's horrid. If it looks anything like that, I hope it fails lol.

  26. OMG, you folks are so missing the point. You guys are all talking warranties and expectations. That is NOT the point. The point is a SYSTEMIC problem that is affecting a higher percentage of vehicles that is way outside the;norm. Engines failures at the 15,000 to 70,000 range is a serious and unprecedented issue in a 21st century engine. Come on folks. I don’t understand why people are defending a well publicized issue.

  28. Thanks akirby, I have never had problems with anyone voicing their opinion in agreement or against my opinions or posts. As you stated I welcome all, employee`s or not. I have on many occasion expressed in many ramblings (lengthy) I am an info nut and read most almost everything I come across and being that type of individual I could never close the door of acquiring a better understandings or possible learning new or unknown facts to me or anyone else. If the old long hair can offer some recourse, I just possibly, should think about posts that are close to personal experiences. Or Op Ed`s that voice and opinion that echo`s my personal thoughts. Come on in valve its a great learning experience, if you let it be. But be prepared not to be cuddled, get multiple points of view and as many opinions as stars at CAP but, supported when this group feels your opinions warrant it.

  30. It has to do with the cost of adding it to an existing interior and the availability of parts. It interfaces with multiple systems in the vehicle so it requires a lot of testing in addition to possible dash redesigns. It's easier for the mfr to wait and do that when they're making other changes. There may also be limited parts availability forcing the mfr to prioritize availability.

  31. I understand the shorthand, but technically the supply shortages are not due to Covid-19 impact, but to government shut-down policies intended to combat the Covid-19 outbreak but which also ended up wrecking economies, throwing people out of work, and disrupting global supply chains. It is heartening to see how fast much of the economy is coming back now that these policies are starting to be reversed, but undoing all of the supply chain damages will take time.

  32. Vaccinating those of us 55+ makes sense because that’s where the majority of deaths and hospitalizations occur.
    1 point
  33. Because normal “poor health” doesn’t put people on ventilators for 2-4 weeks and it doesn’t overwhelm hospitals.
    1 point
  34. Nobody ever said the deaths were from "perfectly healthy" people. The conclusion though is that without Covid those other 94% with other conditions would not have died last year. At least not any more than a normal year. What this means though is that the total deaths over the next few years should drop or at least not increase at the normal pace since Covid has essentially "pulled ahead" a lot of deaths that would have occurred otherwise over the next decade or so. Doesn't change the fact that half a million people died prematurely and our medical providers were overwhelmed.

  35. I don't think labor costs had much to do with why the two mid size EVs move to Mexico. Ford moved Mach E to Mexico because the Trump Admin terminated TTIP negotiation so Mach E exports from the US would be hit with 10% tariff in EU but no tariff if exported from Mexico. That's a simple decision to make. And once the supply chain and tooling is setup in Mexico for Model E platform, there is no reason to move or duplicate it in Ohio. This is more or less the same reason MEB production is going to Canada... it gives Ford more flexibitliy and option to export them to different markets. Both Canada and Mexico have more free trade agreements than the US. The EVs that Ford will make in the US are going to be the ones that will be sold only in North America or where there will be alternate production site for rest of the world. Like F-150 and Transit EV.

  36. Ease up fellas. There are valid points on both sides. This is a unique situation with engines failing so soon. Engines typically last over 200k with proper maintenance. In these situations the mfr sometimes extends the warranty. Ford has done it many times with other parts. It would be nice if Ford did the same here. However..... When you buy a vehicle you get the standard factory LIMITED warranty. You know what is covered and for how long. You also have the option to purchase extended coverage for up to 100k miles. The warranty covers all kinds of defects including engine failures. If you CHOOSE not to get the extra coverage then you shouldn’t complain about it not being covered. Now if Ford was denying warranty replacements that’s a whole different ballgame, but I don’t think that’s the case. Its like buying a cheeseburger without fries, then complaining that you didn’t get fries and then demanding that the manager give you the fries for free. It’s not about Ford per se it’s a simple matter of legal contracts. You get what you pay for. If Ford chooses not to go above and beyond their legal obligations to extend warranty coverage for free then it’s your right as a consumer to shop elsewhere. That’s why I don’t buy Sony televisions. And for the record, in this particular case I do think Ford should extend the warranty. But I don’t think they’re obligated to do so.

  37. I can make my mind up on what to do without the help of a "consumer advocate" thank you very much....go join Sandy Cortez's "green team", me? I will make decisions on my own and not cry about them if the decision is not a good one. Chalk it up and move along. As for feeding the corporate giants mentality...it's about $$$ and I choose where I spend it...they CAN do whatever they want, it is MY choice if I want to go along.

  38. I'll bite. Here in Central FL, my Ford dealership is down to 82 new Fords when 250 is typical. Mullinax is down below 1200 when over 3000 is typical. Those numbers are worsening every week. New cars are like toilet paper...in high demand coupled with low supply.

  41. Banished to Mexico with Mach E kinda suggests that costs Aretha hard to control in the US, low cost existing Mexican plant beckons as an easy solution. Whatever BEVs get built in the US, will definitely carry a lot more profit and offer continuing work for US workers.

  42. I debated this exact scenerio. But I wanted the Quad Beam LED light package. Only way to get it on the Lariat is to do the Ultimate plus Quad LED, OR do the black out package. I skipped the blackout package. Value is good if you dont care about having the lights (though you can get value + black package)
