  1. I wish the whole "The new Ranger is about the same size as a 1996 F-150" BS would just stop. Since Ranger is only offered in a SuperCab or Super Crew configuration the best 1996 F-150 to compare it with from that era is the SuperCab 6.5' bed model. The new Ranger has a 126.8" wheelbase, is 210.8" in length and 73" wide. A 1996 F-150 in a similar configuration had a 138.8" wheelbase, 219.1" length and 79" wide. That is a pretty significant difference. You might remember those F-Series as small, but they really weren't small and not "almost" the same size as the new Ranger.

  2. It's an exciting time to be a Bronco customer! I just got confirmation from my cousin that I remain Bronco #1 at his dealership and am in the first batch of builds that start the last week of May. I'll get the planned build date as early as tomorrow and the VIN next week. Sh*t is getting real!

  3. For any faults, the Ecoboost strategy was the right way for Ford to go in spite of any early problems as Ford had no choice after its own cylinder deactivation program crashed and burned. id still like to see the 600 HP version from the GT in a super hot Mustang, probably go well in export markets as XR6Turbo or some other name with local reference

  4. I never suggested getting rid of the Ranger name. Just adding F-100. The tailgate and order guides would still say Ranger just like Superduty. I also don’t think it’s needed to boost sales or pump up F series numbers. And I don’t think it works with the current or previous Gen rangers because of the styling and/or size differences. I just think it would look good to have all 3 BOF trucks with similar styling (assuming new Ranger takes on the F series styling) being advertised together with the same models and trim packages. It’s also perfectly fine to leave it as is. Not a big deal.

  7. I like to see Ford make it an option to install a SD card and allow those cameras to be used as a dashcam. But leave it up to the owner to install a card and turn it on.

  8. Point, zero zero, zero zero, zero zero (etc) six... is the percentage given for possibility of occurrence.... then the demographics of the effected population are, women of child baring years that are taking the pill. Sooo stop the use of and scare the shit out of everyone that got the "the fauci it`s ok, safe, maybe good" single pop variety shot? Then instead of stating the data shows that this group of effected individuals (6 in how many million?) had the potential of the blood clot issues even before getting the one pop shot, then crank up and get started with the messengers (nbc, cbs, abc cnnnn) the sky is falling routine... Is there anyone out there that is getting tiered of this um doctor and if he was the doctor that opened the door of the room you were waiting in to see an attending physician for a check up how many of his off the wall, wishy washy answers would it take to make an appointment with a different doctor? But wait then say "this should not make anyone hesitant to get vaccinated...?" I keep thinking of the post or posts that stated "we" are the medical trial. Then hot off the presses... "Pentagon Scientists Unveil their Microchip that senses Covid in the Body" Scientists at the Pentagon have created a microchip that once inserted under the skin..... stop... never mind this shit is going way beyond believe able. Form a line over here comrade and drop your GI boxers and bend over....

  10. Ford couldn't cut costs as aggressively on those two vehicles, which are global products in very competitive segments, compared to what they could do with F-Series SD.

  11. There are some nice features for a life style truck. But that second row is useless with adults and even car seats. The optional power train and towing capacity is intriguing. Looking forwarding to see the specs between this and Maverick.

  12. Good luck with car seats in the back of that thing. What were they thinking with the shape of that rear door?

  13. https://www.motor1.com/news/501230/2022-hyundai-santa-cruz-debut/ Reveal was today. Lots of pictures at the link. Here’s a few highlights: -optional 2.5L turbo 275hp 310 lb ft -5000 lb towing -bed is 52 inches long -hidden storage area in bed floor (like the ridgeline but smaller) after watching the reveal, I think Hyundai has a winner here. Production vehicle looks better than I thought it would. It basically has the new Tucson’s interior which is pretty nice in my opinion. I see this taking away sales from Subaru.

  14. Ford has a shorter mast (16") they use on export F150 and F250. Not sure if you can get it in the U.S. as a service part. Ford part number LC3T-18828-AC

  15. I hear what you're saying, but adding extra branding to an already known vehicle line usually just adds more badging for badging sake and like you said everyone would still just call it a Ranger and not an F-100. Super Duty was introduced on F-250 and above because they are heavy duty trucks and since there is a whole range of models from F-250 to F-550 and above it makes sense to have the F-Series Super Duty badged with both. There is one Ranger. Even when the restyled one comes it'll still have it's own cab and interior. It won't be an F-Series even if it has similar Ford Truck styling cues. If you have a vehicle that everyone is going to call a Ranger anyhow just leave it a Ranger. Number nomenclatures only matter if they were to build different GVWR Rangers like the F-Series. Rangers have been advertised as a Ford Truck along with the F-Series as long as I can remember. I just saw a Ford truck TV ad a little while back advertising Ranger and F-Series. Besides all of the other mid-sized trucks go by model names so it fits in nicely with the class.

  16. Not necessarily. When gas hit $4/gallon sales tanked and it wasn’t clear whether the market would come back. Then they had to wait for the new F150 platform and f150 launch. Going forward no big changes are needed and most of the F150 changes can be applied easily. And we know full sized trucks and utilities are cash cows so I think Ford will keep it and Navigator updated regularly.

  17. When I got the 2018 with all of the convenience options, I seriously considered selling my Continental. I found the Mustang to be very comfortable, refined, surprisingly free of road and wind noise and quite capable of being a good daily driver/road trip car for 2 people. My wife didn't like the idea so we kept the Conti. I then started making a few mods to the Mustang: Upgraded axles, upgraded rear suspension, stickier tires, and tune. Finally, last year, I added a Roush/Ford Performance supercharger. The end result is a car that still has all of the original benefits but has acceleration competitive with stock Hellcats, ZL1s, and GT500s......for less money than any of those would have cost.

  18. Ford - zero votes for that name. Change it.

  19. Yeah that has gotta be tough when towing something! . I did find out that there are several companies that will custom fabricate a second tank for any vehicle ya want. The catch is it has to go where the spare tire is. So if you want more fuel capacity in a Navigator ya gotta give up having a spare tire. Unless you carry it on a roof rack! Ha Ha!!

  21. Mazda 6 was making 220hp with the 3.0l duratec. Jaguar s-type was 240. Contour SVT was 200hp out of 2.5l version. Yes, Ford had many versions of the duratec making much better power than what was phoned in for the 500. He may not have had anything to do with it, but I blame Fields...might as well include Bill too. WTF pretty much sums up the 203hp duratec choice as the only available engine.

  23. No argument. I myself fear we have as a result, lost too much of our manufacturing base. Again I must draw on my years but when I began my career, in the Northeast my company had 5 facilities that blended industrial lubricants-like hydraulics and gear oils for initial fills, cutting oils etc. And much of this went out in bulk (tank truck) vs. drums, pails. Today there is one in that same geography. Granted some of that loss is a result of improved manufacturing efficiencies I would imagine but the bulk? The Industry is gone.

  27. Your probably right, but Ranger was a F-150 model back in the 70's.

  28. I think that the Ranger is too established on it's own over so many years to now try to include it under the F-Series banner.

  29. The other story is the same year Ford made the "Five Hundred", Chrysler introduced the "300". Comparisons in buyers mind were inevitable. Practicality and Fuel Economy, the Five Hundred had the advantage. Excitement belonged to the 300. 300 still on sale, Five Hundred barely a memory on Blue Oval News. Price of gas, same for both.

  30. I will NEVER understand that move by Ford at the time. I remember I used to get MotorTrend all the time and they had an article comparing large sedans and they said the FiveHundred would have won if it wasn't for the anemic engine. I know the 3.5 wasn't ready but come on they were able to get more power out of the 3.0 with the LS at 232. Granted it was RWD but still. A couple years later the Fusion debuted with 221. Anything would have been better than 200. I think the most they ever got out of the 3.0 was 240.

  31. I think they should shy away from doing this too much.

  32. Hmmmm......... I think there is plenty of challenging stuff for even the "baddest" new bronco to try on, and this is all "built up, nowhere to wheel" dirty Jersey................ You got traditional mud (private property) Deep water Engine blocks Cars Trees. Snow Cars in the snow......... Concrete walls..... (buddies rig I was driving) Hole left after digging out inground pool....... Vid http://luxjo.supermotors.net/POOL/WHEELIN/MOV02447.MPG And for a quick fix, someone always has a deck over or a tree stump kicking around. And finally, want to test your new bronco's extraction capabilities. Drive your crappy old car, in your crappy old empty pool (auto starters and man tran's don't mix). Call your bronco buddies up and spent 2-3 hours getting it out. So I disagree, you can find "hardcore offroading" without driving 100's of miles..............

  33. Yeah, I agree and understand that alright. I may not be in the average Navigator buyer category lol. You should have seen the faces at the dealership in Naples when I told them I was gonna drive it home to Idaho and turn it into an off-road friendly exploration / road trip cruiser. My Raptor works fine if it was just me, but my wife has some physical issues that need to be addressed and the Raptor does not meet them. The Gator does because it is so comfortable for an all day 12 hour adventure. She loves it! If I cannot figure something out, it will be fine. Just have to stop more often for gas.

  34. First, if it’s a “fad” then it’s been going on for 50+ years. Second, it’s more about appearance and capability and soft roading than serious off roading and rock crawling.

  37. Seems to me the profits are in Sport sedans like a 4 dr Mustang and Lincoln sport sedan based upon the same platform. Low volume and high profit margin. Let GM do the Malibu rental special. Take on high trim Charger, BMW, and MB. The Mustang has the pedigree to run with anyone in a straight line or road course.

  38. Since many pickups are bought as "lifestyle vehicles" and many haul nothing but air in the bed-I suspect it's the right time for Hyundai's Santa Cruz. And it looks like Hyundai is going to market it as such. I'm calling the design a "winner" (remember I called the new Escape a fail-and was right). However, As mentioned it's really hard to know how it will sell-since it is basically a new segment. The Ridgeline is marketed as a truck. The Maverick looks very much like a truck-and truth be told I like the looks of the redesigned Frontier better.
