  1. News Flash... in keeping with their horse themes, the next Ford sub-brand will be:

  2. In that dysfunctional period (2001-2006) under Bill Ford, the company began losing billions and just forgot how to make money. Those that you mentioned were just a few of the many problems at Ford, it just didn’t know how to cope in a changing market. It was common knowledge at Ford that the only two models carrying Ford was F Series and Explorer, everything else was a massive drain save for Volvo which pretty much carried PAG until its models were too tired to sell in decent numbers.

  3. After watching the TFL video last night, I don't think the back seat is the issue that everyone is making it out to be. Those guys are TALL, and the dad didn't seem to have any concerns about sitting or getting into the backseat. The "trucklet" has some pretty cool features like the in-bed trunk and power inverter in the bed (something I wish was included on my Ranger). Even more surprising was the capability (esp. for being based off the Tucson): It tows 5,000 lbs The payload is over 1.7k lbs. While the Maverick and the Santa Cruz may be courting different consumers, I can't say the Hyundai is not an attractive offering. In the end, it may come down to brand preference and what design the buyer likes better. IMO, I think the Maverick will age better being more traditional, but that isn't necessarily important to many buyers.

  4. Not recommended for off-roading, however. (Thanks for the flashback to the hilarious Top Secret! movie...)

  5. There`s been many points in time where the proving with the facts that a person, a leader or a country isn`t to strong, to powerful or just to large to not make the big mistakes... https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/stacey-lennox/2021/04/16/joe-biden-a-no-show-to-greet-japanese-prime-minister-and-the-preview-of-a-president-harris-is-awful-n1440618 50% of the sheepies of this great country fell for the 50% of the leaders make believe, propaganda, lies and the plain old bullshit. The messengers (cnn, cbs, nbc, abc) and one really strange doctor have got some kind of agenda but what could it be? I`m sure our messengers and the good doctor are aware of how the ccp or russia leaders use their messengers so that can`t be the underlying agenda? Or are the messengers and good doc as in line with their idea of a better way of governing as.... sandy? Look`s like the sheep dog`s got this right and it`s one time that being right will not make it easier to deal with. With President Kammy showing off her high school debate team experience and Jobama wandering around the oval office trying to find the door... we are so screwed.

  6. Which card is the right card? We’ve seen pics of the Maverick and know what it’s capability will be based on Escape/Bronco Sport/TC. The Santa Cruz will likely tow more and offers more available power. Also, it has a rear bumper that resembles something that was designed for truck duty. The only cards I can think of at this point is price (Maverick should be less expensive) and Ford truck brand marketability. Keep in mind, exterior design is subjective, but I think both the Mav and SC are attractive.

  7. Transit Connect has 2,000 lbs towing and 1,550 max payload. I speculated in the Maverick thread before that because Maverick will likely weight less than Transit Connect, the payload should be higher and Ford is likely to offer higher towing rating because it is a pickup truck. Looks like Santa Cruz has laid down the numbers for Ford to match.

  8. The point was a 2023 F100 Ranger will be just as capable as a 1977 F-100 Ranger so calling it F-100 is perfectly fine from a capability standpoint. It’s still well below a F-150. And btw I don’t disagree with all the points that were made against including Ranger in F series. Just playing devil’s advocate.

  9. When did they change the definition of ton?

  10. Personally, no, I wouldn't expect to see anything like two cams in the block. If they're going to do something like that, they might as well stick with the OHC systems they already have. I think we're too late in the ICE lifecycle to see any wild developments; nobody is going to want to sink money into that when regulatory pressure is driving them out of the heart of the market.

  11. Just saw a walk through on TFL truck. Hyundai is GOING TO SELL A TON OF THESE. And they will have a "Ford problem" on this model-not enough capacity. There are plenty of owners that settle for a cute "ute" like the Tucson, Ford Escape, etc, that are going to love this thing.

  12. That GT500 looks good. Mach 1 isn’t bad either...but needs a shaker hood scoop.

  13. It's also a reflection of the current inventory situation.

  14. I think they should shy away from doing this too much.

  15. Mercury was the original "up-market" car created by Edsel Ford himself. Created as a "bridge" between Ford and Lincoln. It was less a "sub-brand" and more a separate marquee that at the end of it's span became nothing more than a Ford with a different grille.

  16. So, this article blurred the line between trims and sub-brands. Obviously Ford has made Mustang and Bronco into sub-brands. F-series and Transit already were. But them talking about "Raptor" becoming a sub-brand is inaccurate - it's a trim level, not a model on its own.

  17. I understand the shorthand, but technically the supply shortages are not due to Covid-19 impact, but to government shut-down policies intended to combat the Covid-19 outbreak but which also ended up wrecking economies, throwing people out of work, and disrupting global supply chains. It is heartening to see how fast much of the economy is coming back now that these policies are starting to be reversed, but undoing all of the supply chain damages will take time.

  18. This is really hard for people to understand. What works for one company may not work for another. In addition to buyer preferences you have to factor in institutional knowledge, factory availability, etc. etc. Bronco is a great case in point. Ford has the history, they know how to build rugged body on frame trucks and suvs. The Ranger platform was readily available as was the factory capacity. No brainer. Hyundai has none of that and it would be an unmitigated disaster. Likewise, Ford would have trouble competing with a new traditional minivan for the same reason.

  19. Each made the correct choice for their respective companies. Average Ford customers probably wouldn't accept a car like truck, and average Hyundai customers probably wouldn't really like a Ford like approach.
