  2. Glad they finally dumped Argo. A money sink with no future. Spend the $$$ elsewhere.

  3. The early cost for MEB was around $17 billion already sunk in before the new software was to be added ( not provided to Ford by the way). From memory, Ford committed to two vehicles with a maximum of 600,000 units over a five year period, that would be the Euro midsized utility and compact vehicles to be built a Cologne starting next year. The flaws in early adopters like VW and MEB, VW, eTNGA and even GM Ultium, maybe Ford GE platform were deficient in three areas: 1. The misconception that ICE construction was a copy paste over to BEVs (Tesla significantly faster build times) 2. That substituting a skateboard structure on otherwise unitary design would not increase build hours or costs 3. That rebranded existing Terniary battery tech is now struggling against lower cost LFP battery tech. We don’t know about GM’s situation with Ultium because it hasn’t begun wholesale production but if LG has similar problems with Ultium production - it’s their pouch design that’s not folded. Everyone has had issues with LG battery manufacturing faults and contamination. I guess that’s the pain of early adopters, someone has to go first and experience those problems and overcome them. What they are finding is that build costs are much greater than a comparable ICE, almost or slightly more than double in several cases. Given that Tesla recently announced that the subcompact 2 build costs would be half that of 3 and Y ($20k vs$40k) using new processes to deliver a $25,000 entry price, that is going be big trouble for European competition. The new lower build cost techniques will filter through to evolved 3 and Y at some future points that again gap the competition.

  4. I agree and it appears that Farley does too. It seems that he's going forward with the GE2 and TE1 BEV architecture for BEVs in North America instead of the MEB-based vehicles as in Europe.

  5. The bodyless chassis is a pretty cool view of the R's underpinnings.

  7. I decided to put this in the Ford discussion area because I think the issues being considered by Toyota are the same that Ford are considering (or should be). This part reminds me a bit of the news that the Mach E chassis is being abandoned in favor of a 'next gen' (GEII?) EV chassis : Much more in the article: https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/toyota-rethinks-electric-car-strategy?utm_source=daily&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20221025&utm_content=article3-headline

  10. Ford doesn't even know how many 2023MY Super Duty's they'll be able to produce yet!

  11. You got it Captainp4, 4.6% EBIT margin in Q3 2022 for Ford's automotive operations globally, and 5.0% in North America.

  12. So we're down to 5% margin if I skimmed that correctly?

  13. LS I dug out what commercial vehicle info I have; -2019 250-450 Pick Up, 6.2 or PS 350-550 chassis, 6.2, 6.10 or PS -2020 Chassis info..350, SRW and DWR, 6.2, 7.3, PS 450-550 DRW,... 7.3, PS 600 DRW, 7.3 -2022 Chassis 350, SRW and DWR 6.2, 7.3, PS 450-600, 7.3, PS Couldn't find any '21 info or pick up info. other than '19. Again this is Chassis info..so I defer to Joey- Ice Capades on pick ups...Makes no sense in my mind but who ever said "good sense" had anything to do with options? If I wanted to pull my heavy boat or camper 12 weekends a year and wanted a truck with "beef" could I justify a 9g premium for a PS? No!

  14. Does anyone know why the deployable running boards cannot be put on a truck without a center console? Does it have to do with the wiring harness or something? Is it possible to put the factory deployable running boards on a truck without the center console?

  15. Oh, yes, I see. Option 85G. I already had that highlighted and skipped right over it when I saw your note. Thanks!

  16. Exactly, hybrids play an important role in electrification, they give gas buyers their first taste of how electrification can benefit them without any of the drawbacks of a BEV. Toyota knows this and leveraged it for decades but surprisingly, never made a successful BEV. Perhaps that was mindset… And yes, Ford went through many of the soul searching that Toyota is doing presently and as tech evolves the answers change, it’s that flexibility many desire to avoid terrible blind alleys. Toyota has deep pockets, they will correct and relaunch their plans just like Ford did. It’s just fun to watch CEOs contort their narrative……they’re like ducks, calm on the surface and paddling furiously below the waterline

  17. We should be careful differentiating between reported “power” and “energy” because both sides of issue often use these terms interchangeably depending on which one supports their agenda best. I sometimes misuse the terms myself due to carelessness, but never intentionally to mislead. Anyway, I tend to look at benefits based on actual net contributions compared to other options, so rarely see solutions as straight forward as some claim. China with many new coal power plants is a good example. It is interesting that Ford also think hybrids play an important role, as mentioned by Ford Media Center on new Escape. An affordable hybrid option under $2,000 contributes a lot more than an electric car that is unaffordable and thus never built. “Ford is among the leading hybrid automakers in the U.S. because we understand that not all of our customers are ready to go all-electric,” said Zaski. “With two hybrid powertrain choices, customers can spend less time at the gas station and keep more money in their pockets.”

  18. Engine info including price......I just checked a box that could be a $20k option for all I know.

  19. this is exactly how it should be for better/full screen utilization. this is how Explorer does it: it essentially keeps the side-by-side camera layout of the smaller 8” screens and then just adds a “sensor” view below that instead of giving a full width backup camera image with a bigger 360 view below it.

  21. The way I see it was that Toyota was developing fuel cell/hydrogen tech in parallel with BEV plans, that kind of each way bet leads to treating both strategies as extensions of existing manufacturing plans, not sure if it’s just cost cutting or a desire to evolve an existing design as an easier progression for workers and engineers. BEVs have advanced so quickly that the slow methodical roll out as extensions of ICE is now redundant, that’s why the e-TNGA is now probably scrap, not advanced enough, too much cost and too long to build.

  22. If your project takes you to say Home Depot, go to their website and search "truck rental." You will see a SRW 250 with an aluminum flatbed. If HD is placing an order for say 50 replacements I doubt they will like the idea of dealing with the headache of paying upfront for a 250 with an 8' box and then dealing with Reading or whoever their body supplier is to pull the bed, then the disposal issue etc etc.

  23. What have they done to us? We are ordering pickups, price unknown, engine performance unknown, towing and payload unknown.....and yet I'm excited to do it? Zombie apocalypse!

  26. None of which addresses whether or not their processes and manufacturing are leading edge - as VW have now seemingly realized about their situation.. Is GM using their version of Tesla's gigapress? I doubt it. Having a bespoke EV chassis does not ensure world class cost structure, again as VW have apparently realized. GM 'engineering by press release' notwithstanding.

  28. Generally not unless fleet pricing yields a higher discount on the more expensive Bronco Sport. Escape starts off less, even when bumping to AWD (which a municipal fleet wouldn't likely have unless they needed it frequently). Unless BS holdback is much higher, there's less room between invoice and MSRP on the more expensive BS (thus Plan pricing is less of a discount than on Escape). Plus, a fleet of Sports would have higher operational costs, including fuel.

  29. The most telling argument against Toyota’s ev commitment is the BYD based Corolla, that is being done exactly because Toyota cannot compete on electrification costs, it and VW Group are in a big hole. Speaking of VW, Ford should be running from MEB, that thing bleeds money, it’s expensive to build and not cost effective against Tesla. Ford should just stick with its own designs rather than buying a pack of German woe..

  30. Toyota has tried. They have a BEV that stumbled out the gate (wheels fell off). The Lexus version has been advertised a lot lately.

  36. Why are they using photos with the check engine and battery lights on, and a battery that is showing 98% charged and 1 Mile range. They really don't care about details and subliminal messaging.

  39. Thank you Harley Lover. Akio Toyoda and Jim Farley alike understand the how critical it is to develop totally different, BEV optimized platforms amid the ongoing automotive industry revolution. I think both executives have also embraced the truth that Blue Oval Forums member GrussGott mentioned on this site earlier this year regarding BEV manufacturing.

  42. The features you mention have existed for over a decade. The locks with the fob in your pocket is really nice when you're juggling a couple small kids like I did for the first couple years we had our explorer. As others have mentioned, the fuel cap is one less thing to worry about, and has a flap to prevent siphoning. My explorer and F150 both have a funnel you have to use with a fuel can in the event you're dumb enough to run out of fuel. And if you want to lock, unlock, or start your vehicle from miles away, there's an app for that. As for your rental cars, as someone who has the joy of renting nearly weekly, welcome to the reality of the modern world. When everyone stopped traveling, the rental companies sold off their fleets. Like everyone else, they can't replace them right now with new vehicles, and you get to pay a lot more for a lot more miles.

  43. In the new FDNB (Fleet Distribution News Bulletin) released late today, Ford is stating that the 2023MY Super Duty Order Guide will be released on 10/25/2022, ahead of the USOB (Unscheduled Order Bank) opening on 10/27/2022.

  44. That's just it. While there is no question that personal injury lawsuits have become a big windfall for plaintifs and attorneys, this case is worrisome for Ford considering the number of accidents and the number of trucks that may have potentially weak cabs. I remember first hearing about Super Duty cabs collapsing in roll-overs many years ago, which is why this particular case caught my attention. In any event, these trucks will be scutinized just like the 1973-1987 GM trucks with their 'side saddle' fuel tanks. I wonder if a 'smoking gun' is discovered and Ford is proven to be liable for these accidents it may cause them to spin off 'Ford Blue' to shield 'Ford E'.

  47. That was true up until a couple of years ago. The VIN numbers are assigned at the time the order is scheduled but I've seen a number of scheduled orders cancelled by Ford due to unexpected commodity and/or supply chain issues during the balance out stage.
