  1. How about getting the Aviator off the sh!t-list for least reliable cars??? Hmmm, wouldn't that be good? ?

  2. At the time, it was just a summer job to make money for college. Whatever the engineers wanted me to do, I did. Mostly just menial stuff, like locating and moving vehicles to the experimental garage so they could install whatever the newest thing was. But I also met a lot of now-famous engineers like Joe Macura (427), Bill Gay (255 DOHC Indy Engine), George Stirrat (Chief Engineer 221/260/289/302) and others. Fun times for a college kid. It paid well too.

  4. Alan Mularly wanted to eliminate Lincoln and Mercury. I'm guessing the underlying math hasn't changed that much. Lincoln's pivot to SUVs probably helped a bit since they have higher margin but on a worldwide product portfolio basis, Ford definitely makes more profit from selling vans than Lincoln.

  5. Who knows I was told mine was going in to production the week of Feb. 20th and would take supposedly 2mo. to get to the dealer which seems like along time but that’s if it’s built that week… If people had theirs built the first week of January we probably should see them hitting the dealers around the 1st of March.. we went to Dearborn couple of days after Christmas driving back I-75 3 car carriers with new Super Duty’s on them probably going to be tested… with that being said who real knows..

  7. Despite the heart attack over finding this window sticker on Saturday, today I received “Shipped” notification. Ten days short of the one year anniversary from my order date. I cannot access the window sticker today though. I’ll believe it when I can sit my butt in the seat.

  8. You should have this sheet with your name on it and signed by you. I'd recommend everyone subscribe to this YouTube channel. He regularly addresses Ford's price protection programs.

  9. Hold that thought, F Series makes 75-80% of Ford Motor’s North American profit, so Transit, Expedition, Explorer and Bronco probably make up the rest. Sure, add in Navigator, Aviator and Corsair to that mix……but we’re getting a long way from Lincoln bringing 10-15% of profits. Somewhere in all of those 1.78 million sales are at least 500,000 sales that barely cover development and manufacturing costs.

  10. The Pinto may have been a PR disaster, but there are a bunch of street rods running around with Pinto front suspension assemblies under them. The one Pinto my dad had was one he bought from a junk yard as a donor for the '37 Ford pickup we were restoring.

  11. That's 4-5% of unit sales, but what is the percentage of profits? If, f'rinstance, they're only 4-5% of unit sales, but they're accounting for 10-15% of profits, that seems like a pretty good trade.

  12. The dealer in my home town had their Lincoln franchise pulled. Small town, rural farming community, didn't warrant spending $$$ on a standalone building when they have Ford, Chrysler, Jeep, and Ram all in one building. They also have no interest in EV's. I doubt they have the local infrastructure to handle DC fast chargers. Nearest one is 30 miles away.

  14. First there is x plan discount - you get the x plan price period so MSRP is meaningless. It is true they can’t see the original x plan price which is why it should be recorded in writing at order time, Your only option is to pay the x plan price on the invoice, have the dealer submit for price protection to Ford and they have to send you the rebate per the plan rules.

  15. Here are the U.S. sales figures for Lincoln Motor Car Company (thank you jpd80 for the 2022 total). In the past 6 years, it achieved a YOY increase only once, from 2018 to 2019. 2022: 83,486 2021: 86,929 2020: 105,410 2019: 112,204 2018: 103,587 2017: 111,159 Here are the China sales numbers. China became Lincoln's largest market in 2021. 2022 sales numbers for China aren't yet available, but they should exceed Lincoln sales in the U.S. market. 2022: (not available yet) 2021: 87,953 2020: 39,185 2019: 46,629 2018: 55,315 2017: 54,124 In terms of brand perception, it is quite good in China, less so in the U.S. Lincoln's initiatives in both markets for "electrifying its entire portfolio of vehicles by the end of the decade" should improve consumer perception of the Lincoln brand. Details on some of those initiatives were mentioned in this press release from June 2021. 16. I’ve said this for some time now - have better environmental restrictions, but not at the expense of our economy vs “theirs”. we could reduce our emissions 100%. Doesn’t do much good if China or India increase theirs 200%. im all for a better environment, renewable energy etc. just don’t shoot yourself in the foot and chop your arm off to get there.
