  2. My wife used to drive a 2009 Ford Edge. Last summer, we got this as its replacement 😎

  3. Clickbait. Why would Ford release new photos of a secret product?

  4. I wonder how close it'll be in terms of looks and proportion to this Toyota. This is an example of how you can make a short hood still look really nice. If it was virtually identical to this, I'd be perfectly happy. This is like a best case scenario for how a short hood, small, lifestyle truck could look imo.

  5. We shall see. The battery cannot be that much smaller or it will be using the engine a lot. If it uses the engine a lot it will need to be a larger engine. If it is a larger engine it will be both expensive and inefficient.

  6. The thing is the EREV is a BEV with a gas engine added. It makes no sense to offer only the EREV when the BEV is essentially the same truck, less an engine, and probably a nominally larger battery. I have no idea how Ford can add an engine to the Lightning without either increasing the price, making it even less profitable, or both. My next vehicle will also be a BEV. Hopefully it continues to be a Ford.

  7. While Borg was right on some things, he was wrong on others. He has lately been incorrectly referring to the production location of the Ranger-replacement BOF Bronco truck as 'Kentucky Truck Plant', which actually builds the Super Duty trucks and Expy/Navi SUVs. He's done this a few times. In fact, he recently started a new thread regarding this topic at GMI, where he mentioned the 'new mothballed Kentucky Truck Plant' instead of properly saying 'newly-renamed Tennessee Truck Plant.' It appears he's confused about two separate truck plants, as well as possibly being confused about the fact that the Louisville Assembly Plant being retooled to soon build the CE1 pickup. But regarding the topic, though, I'm actually excited for this! The whole CE1 skunkworks project soon coming to full fruition, these five new vehicles, new multi-energy Super Duty trucks soon to be built at OAC, the van at OHAP, possible Mustang Mach 4 sedan, and something in Mexico in place of Bronco Sport. I'm sure there's more coming that's not even announced yet. Then there's the redesigns and major updates of existing vehicles. The ICE F-150, for instance, is set to get a whole new next generation at some point, which is likely what the F-150 EREV will be based on. So I'm looking forward to see what will be coming soon!

  8. https://www.thedrive.com/news/ford-promises-5-new-cars-under-40k-by-2030-including-midsize-electric-truck We've discussed this before, but we have more info now. Ford's labeling affordable models as sub 40k, the types of vehicles seem pretty varied, with them mentioning cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans will all receive new affordable models. Additionally, these will all be new products, not just stripped down variants of existing models, and they'll have multi-energy powertrains.

  9. They aren't wrong in that the photos are old, but the conclusion they draw from that of the project not working out behind the scenes is just idiotic. It's far more likely that things are progressing nicely, but they just aren't ready to reveal new press material at this moment in time.

  10. CD6 is too expensive that’s why CD6 projects for Mustang and the four door sedan were scrapped. If the business plan didn’t work then, it certainly won’t work today.

  11. The thing about these plans is that to Ford, it’s seems like a logical step considering all the other F150 manufacturing that’s continuing at the plant. The question is , do they add an ICE to Lightning or do the easy way out by adding a bigger battery to the Powerboost hybrid and call that job done? Or is it something in between that uses the Lightning’s electric motors and drives, a smallish battery and an ICE Gen set?

  13. The 650 and 750 6.7L Powerstroke trucks use the 10R, but the 7.3L gasoline versions use the 6R. I think the F53 stripped chassis may also use the 6R with gas engines. I really wish the 6R140 was available with the 7.3L or 6.8L gasoline engines in the 250 and 350.

  15. I think the problem with the Lincoln LS was Jaguar wanting exclusivity. They forced Lincoln to drop the v8 stroke by a mm making it a 3.9L instead of 4.0L and would not allow a supercharger. I loved everything about my 2000 LS v8 sport except the cheap dash. I think the issue with making a 4 door S650 is too much extra weight because it was designed to be a 2 door ragtop with a lot of reinforcement. Not that itcouldn't be done. I think cd6 would be a much better starting point.

  16. LG Energy Solution got a great deal thanks to the incompetence of Stellantis big shots. They bought the portion of Nextstar Energy battery plant in Windsor, ON, Canada they didn't already own for $100 USD. Global automaker Stellantis NV has sold its 49 per cent stake in Canada’s first and only multibillion-dollar battery cell manufacturing plant to its joint venture partner for just US$100. LG said it would use the plant to serve a broader customer base, potentially by making electric vehicle batteries for many automakers rather than just Stellantis. But LG, which is the largest lithium-ion battery producer outside China, also produces batteries for a range of products, such as laptops, phones and more, and the company said it would consider serving a broader customer base.

  18. I just dont believe that it "cant handle" a sedan. Ford has some good engineers I'm sure there are even some southern bumpkins in a barn who can stretch a Mustang and add 2 rear doors lol. Joking of course but I just don't buy into "cant handle it" narrative. I remember back in the day a bunch of Ford "insiders" kept saying the Lincoln LS failed cause it was RWD only and that DEW98 couldn't handle AWD and wasn't designed for it. Yet when Ford sold Jaguar, they had no issues adding AWD to the XF which was using DEW98.

  19. Rumor is it's half the size. If you charge at home it's probably fine and for longer trips you use the engine. But I also wonder if this is a solution nobody is asking for.

  20. Yea, and what the market has said is that affordability is an issue with the full size BEV pickups being offered currently. When I got my F-150 Lightning PRO in 2022, it was priced just above $42k. Last time I checked, a similar 2025 F-150 Lightning PRO had an MSRP of $57k

  21. 7.3L / 6R140 is drivetrain in F650/750 - I would presume that it is a stout combination for the GVW given and no need for the extra gearing of the 10R...I am sure that also applies to the Blue Bird Vision.

  22. There’s a team on the Lightning forums that have developed a way to drive the Lightning while connected to a generator.

  23. Im guessing the battery is smaller to make it cheaper. The reason for the EREV is partly psychological-the stereotypical buyer isn’t ready or trusts batteries only-just look at the Scout pre orders as an example.

  24. Prior to launch of Lightning, the speculation and even some tech drawings showed a removable "gas generator" that could be mounted in the bed post purchase to extend the driving range as needed. It never got past the "tech drawing" stage, however, Ford did file a patent on it. That idea could come in handy if you tow occasionally and only needed the "range extending" abilities while doing so....afterward, take the range extender out, put in the corner of the garage and continue on with BEV operations only. Interesting thought would be that you may also be able to use the "range extender" as a stand alone generator to power your home in the event of a power outage. https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1129823_electric-ford-f-150-might-be-available-with-bed-mounted-gas-range-extender https://www.thedrive.com/news/36793/electric-ford-f-150-patent-drawings-show-swappable-range-extending-gas-generator-disguised-as-toolbox

  25. Blue Bird builds their own chassis for Vision but specs a Ford 7.3L Godzilla / 6R140 transmission for their gas versions. Cummins is their choice for diesel versions.

  26. I think they saw Maverick below and took it as an opportunity to prune cheap Rangers from the lineup, because doing that also allowed them to make more Broncos. i agree that it doesn’t make sense how they’ve handled it, as a SuperCab Ranger would still appeal to a different customer than a Maverick. Also, regarding styling, that’s what happens when you release a truck in the rest of the world a year or two ahead of launching it here….it’ll be old before it even launches.

  27. And I get that… So what I’m thinking is whether Ford considers CE1 pickup (and Utility) midsized because it’s wider like Edge hence more hip and shoulder room or is it midsized like Ranger but being similar inside as Maverick or even Escape or RAV4. Honestly, modern marketing leaves name cold…

  28. Ford absolutely blew the Ranger...it went from two body styles and two bed lengths and a base of 28k to One body style, a small bed only , too much content and expensive ( Starting at 35k )....good truck but when I drive into a clients lot and see a lineup of Nissans and ask why...the answers were pretty glaring....its also dating pretty quickly...

  29. One thing is for sure: By already making a move on its plan to shrink its footprint in the international EV supply chain, the big shots at Stellantis are shootin' their employer in the foot and weakening its competitive position now and in the future

  31. From Autoline Daily: Talk about ripping the bandaid off all at once. This morning Stellantis announced it’s taking a massive $26 billion write-off of its EV investments. That includes an $8 billion payment to suppliers for cancelled EV programs, as well as selling off its battery plant in Canada. To preserve cash, Stellantis is cancelling its dividend for 2026 and will issue $6 billion in new bonds. Investors reacted immediately to the news, sending the stock price down 24%. Here’s our Autoline Insight. This is a complete and total separation of the plan put forward by Carlos Tavares, the previous CEO of the company. He called it Dare Forward 2030 and the goal was to position Stellantis as the automotive leader in decarbonization. Tavares envisioned EVs accounting for 100% of the company’s sales in Europe and 50% in the U.S. by 2030. And he invested heavily to hit that target. As you know, those targets now look hopelessly optimistic, which is a big part of the reason why Mr. Tavares lost his job and why Stellantis had to take such a massive write-off.

  33. Ford has seemingly mentioned previously what 4 of the 5 will probably be. CE1 truck The CE1 CUV A small van (CE1?) The affordable pickup that has been discussed on this site. that leaves one model-maybe an Edge sized SUV? As an aside I see Borg mentioned a hybrid 4 door Mustang, but I’m sure it won’t be one of the “affordable models”.

  34. No, Ford stated this: https://www.fromtheroad.ford.com/us/en/articles/2025/ford-affordable-electric-vehicle-platform-midsize-electric-truck I'm guessing it will be around $35K or so for starting MSRP The sub 40K price point is to fit in the other products that are coming There are five new products coming: One is the CE1 Pickup We can infer the other is going to be the new van going in Ohio, which will be C1 based hybrid replacement for the Transit Connect So that leaves us with three more products- My assumptions: A new Bronco nameplate to replace the Edge/Escape...but might be just an updated Bronco Sport EV CUV on the CE1, which apparently is going to be called the Escape Some sort of sedan, not sure if it will be a hybrid or based on the CE1.

  36. Weren’t they originally supposed to be sub 30k? Sub 40k probably means 39,999 and that’s already more expensive than other EVs out there. I thought the new manufacturing process was supposed to save a lot of money, yet they might not even undercut the equinox ev that’s been out for a few years? The rivian r2, which should be a big step up from these vehicles, is supposed to be only 45k.
