Ok that makes sense, i think I was conflating CAFE and Emissions-larger vehicles over certain GVW don't need to meet CAFE. -
Not to mention IMO it is a waste of resources that develop something that has been paid for by ROW investment and I seriously doubt that Ford can find an additional 70K buyers for more Bronco and a Lincoln Bronco, when those can be currently can be comfortably added to the plant. The unibody question has been already answered by the Maverick-expand upon that instead of reinventing and competing with the CE1 truck with an ICE product. Apply what was learned with CE1 manufacturing processes to the next gen Maverick.

Recent & Notable Recalls 2025 CR-V e:FCEV (Coolant Leak): A fuel cell coolant leak can lead to a loss of power. 2023-2025 CR-V Hybrid (Battery/Fuel): Issues with lithium-ion battery terminals or fuel pump components causing fire/power loss risks. 2024 CR-V (Tire Code): Missing 4-digit date code on the Tire Identification Number (TIN). 2023 CR-V (Seat Frame): Improperly welded front passenger seat back frame. 2020-2022 CR-V Hybrid (Fire Risk): Overheating battery cables due to a missing fuse on a 12-volt cable. 2025 CR-V Hybrid (Fuel Leak): A fuel hose connection issue could cause leaks and fire risk. Recent & Notable Recalls: 2013-2018 Models (Fire Risk): Over 1.8 million RAV4s recalled for replacement 12-volt batteries that might not be secured tightly, potentially causing a short circuit and fire, according to CBT News and this YouTube video. 2024-2025 Models (Brakes): Some 2024 RAV4s and 2025 Lexus NX models have loose bolts on front brake calipers and wheel hubs, risking damage or wheel detachment, notes DealerRater and Toyota USA Newsroom. Not to say Ford is any better, but there are issues with them.

MAP produced roughly 217K Broncos and Rangers last year, so they have plenty of room to make a Lincoln variant if they wanted As for your cheap unibody product...why? It makes zero sense. Your basically asking for a unibody 1990 single cab Ranger or an ICE/Hybrid Slate pickup. The unfortunate fact is that vehicles aren't going to get any cheaper, just like housing pricing. There is no pressure to make them cheap and the reality is "affordable" is the 30-40K price range given the average price of a new vehicle is 50K. The Maverick already fills that role-if they want to drop the price, move it from Mexico to the US for production to get rid of tariffs but I have this suspicions that UAW costs and other things would make it cost even more if that wasn't an issue. Then put it into a brand new factory and watch it maybe sell 70K units when there are far better things to do like build an Escape/Edge replacement or even maybe a Bronco style Maverick that would more off road oriented that would be far more profitable. Then its also going to butt heads with other product like the CE1 pickup.

I was under the impression that vehicles over a certain GVWC don't have to or have lower standards to meet? -
2029 sounds worse then it actually is because IMO its only 36 months from now. I'm guessing that LAP will be retooling for the next 6-8 months, then slowly coming back on line with the new CE1 pickup launching Summer of 2027 The CUV CE1 will most likely start preproduction in mid 2028 launching in early 2029?
-
new product normally sells well when it first comes out, lets see how the sales numbers are this time next year.
-
Nah I don't think it is that...because the CE1 will have multiple products built off it. I'm guessing the pickup was done first since Ford thinks that is what they are the strongest in. The issue is that it leaves other segments bare like the larger C CUV market in North America-but there is product coming, I just hope it gets here sooner then later.
-
Good question-the CE1 comes across to me as a lifestyle vehicle/truck-it can move around light weight stuff without too much impact to range. We need more info on it-it could be something like the Rivian or it might be something that is more radical but less of a truck, even more so then the Maverick as an example? Think a midsize CUV with a bed on it that can tow a jet ski or dirt bike? I'd assume the higher end Mavericks would be affected by it more than the lower range that starts at $27K or so, which seems like where most of the Mavericks that are selling are at.
-
The rumor has the CE1 pickup being larger than the Maverick and smaller than the Ranger. That also indicates to me that the actual price will be in the upper 30K range instead of lower 30K range IMO. I like RMCs idea of a Bronco styled Maverick truck instead vs making a el cheapo single cab Maverick that would eat into the sales of the Maverick anyways.
