  1. Yeah its called making it an EV The longer wheelbase/larger footprint is just workaround for CAFE which is just going to be more onerous for the time being. So you can blame CAFE for making vehicles both larger and more expensive, because the amount of money to be able to make them meet CAFE destroys their abitily to be profitable, at least till EVs become more affordable
  2. That is a good accounting question, I'm going to assume Model E will eat it since it was already earmarked for it?
  3. The Ranger and Bronco aren't all that different when it comes to electronic subsystems. The bigger gripe I have is the Bronco (and I think Ranger) doesn't have automatic lane keeping and distancing like the Bronco Sport has. I've used it a couple times on my wife's Bronco Sport and even on a short hour drive or so, it cuts down on the amount of "fatigue" of just keeping the vehicle in the lane. Yeah I know it sounds lazy, but noticed when I was done with the drive, I wasn't as mentally or physically tired as if I had to do most of the "driving" myself-it cut the amount of effort by 50% or more. You set the cruise control, and just keep your hand on the wheel and keep aware of the traffic around you, instead of doing all of that plus keeping the vehicle centered in the lane and accelerating/decelerating. I was slightly impressed it came to a complete stop when I had it set for around town driving doing 40 mph and stopped with a resonable gap between you and the car in front.

  5. I don't think it would be that big of an impact-IMO it would be an Escape/Edge replacement. It solves the "boring" issue those two products have. The Bronco Sport is 172" long, the current Escape is 180", the Edge is 188 and the Bronco is 191" or so for a 4 door model. The Nautilus/Mondeo Sport is 193.
  6. They might have made good small platforms, but apparently they couldn't make a profit on them.
  7. So I did some more digging and looking at photos and whatever this Bronco is, its based off the Lincoln Nautilus/Ford Mondeo Sport platform, at least going by its interior. I have a Bronco Sport and had a last gen Escape and my parents have a current gen one and you'd be amazed at how much they share in minor details with the interior-they look "different" but things like storage places or hard points are the same. This Bronco has a very similar center console/arm rest to the Nautilus and Mondeo Sport. The dash could be a modified Nautilus dash with just a 12 inch screen in the middle. The steering wheel is similar to what is on the Mondeo Sport with a Bronco center.
  8. Food for thought-maybe that is exactly what Ford wants to do. Why are they going to chase down markets that they aren't competitive in and don't make money in? That would explain the decisions they are making over the past 10-20 years.
  9. Or we are just sliding into a real recession (not COVID related) that we are long over due for-they've been talking about that happening since Trump first came into office in 2016.
  10. I dunno the interior hard points from what I can see are completely different then the Bronco Sport and the Escape. The headlights are completely different too. Could this possibly be a CE1 CUV?

  12. So here the problem with your train of thought-Ford's bread and butter is commercial vehicles-Vans and trucks. Last time I checked Hyundai doesn't offer a larger truck or van, so that is extra money they can use on products like EVs The Mach E was developed as a compliance vehicle for the EU market (which is why its built in Mexico vs USA). Since then Ford's EV projects have been a shit show with cancellations and changes in direction
  13. But most of those cars are based off ICE platforms and aren't purely clean sheet EVs Not sure how the packaging works with RWD Evs, but it might be better for a van type product that needs a flat floor.
  14. https://insideevs.com/features/758468/slate-ev-truck-cheap-20000/ Curious as to how well this is going to all pan out. I also wonder how well Ford's CE1 pickup will compete with it-I'd expect the CE1 to be around 30-35K, but be larger and not be as bare bones. I'd expect the Slate to start off cheap but once you start adding options, it will be over 30K. I also wonder who will be responsible for installing them-Slate seems to be pushing a dealership less model and will be partnering with a 3rd party for repairs/service. I'd venture to guess that Ford might be a better position overall due to it being an established player and its product not as barebones in the eyes of the customer.
  15. Well that makes sense and partly explains why the NG F-150 was delayed.
  16. So talking about weight- FWD 2.0L Ecoboost 235 pounds mated to a 8F 192 pounds=427 pounds not including cooling or accessories. Tesla motor is 300 pounds or so
  17. One thing to consider-the reason why FWD works better in inclement weather is because the powertrain is over the driving wheels. In an EV the vast majority of the weight is in the center of the vehicle. With traction control and other things, it wouldn’t really matter from a traction perspective which wheels where driving it.
  18. Wasn’t their rumors of a new Ford Super car coming along that was similar to the Ford GT? Maybe Ford is planning that for the name?

  20. Its just not that, its upcoming government regulations that was forcing it...we are 10 years from the EU and CARB (which a significant amount of the top 10 best selling markets/States also use) requirements of 0% CO2 requirements and I believe the EPA wanted at least 50% at the same time. Of course that is subject to change, but like you said its not like Ford or whoever could just wait till then and start popping out EVs-plus the market in China, but then again IMO I think that is a lost cause and that country might not exist in its current form in the next 10 years either.
  21. In my work parking lot, we have 4-5 Broncos now in it, and 3 in Cactus Grey, including mine. One has a set of terrible looking donks and a sand colored wrap on it that looks horrible to me One is a 2025 Wildtrack with the piano black hardtop on it that looks nice!
  22. The Mach E and Bronco Sport came out around the same time-right around when COVID hit. The Bronco Sport had a very light refresh for 2025-the Interior was updated with a larger screen and grills might have been changed slightly, so it hasn't gotten much different in the looks dept...I'd say as much as the Mach E has changed, using the Rally as an example. The 2025 Maverick had a huge change to its front fascia vs these products.
  23. I can maybe see a city car or B class EV shared with VW if it comes to a passenger vehicle, but I wouldn't give that more then a 50/50 chance of happening.
  24. I got a ride in a fairly loaded Hyundai Santa Fe and found the views for the camera when using turn signals to be very distracting even from the passenger seat. Not sure I'd want that as an option-I get a 360 camera when parking, but otherwise, nah.
  25. I was just reading that Kia had a big hit in sales to their EVs this past month also. I think most of this is just rising costs and people not buying higher end items due to economic factors at play
