  1. It just takes the will to do it and gosh, the trillions they loaned in the economic melt down, when they come back it may be worth siphoning off a few 100 billion to make the thing work. Something future generations will thank us for and the Arabs/OPEC no longer hold the world to ransom. The dirty bastards are at it again, all in collusion trying to pump the price of oil up again.
  2. Imagine if Microsoft bought $20 billion of Ford shares, they'd really be in Sync....
  3. Easy when the market is compares Ford with bucket of shit GM. I wonder what the new GM will be trading at with all the old debts swept away, and GM's followers returning in droves because their beloved Bowtie GMC and Caddy are saved..... Remember Ford will still have significant debt where GM rinsed clean of debt is their competitor.
  4. The GM board looked up the meaning of managerial acumen but went with their gut feeling that it was only a cooking spice.
  5. OK then so FWD isn't the answer like some people say... Hey Matthew can you shed some light on this statement by Jim Farley: I'm wondering if Tahoe is making inroads whether a Ford Territory would work, it's as wide as a Vic and heaps of room inside, much larger than Edge...... And the RWD/AWD turbo six is to die for.............. Or would they do D3 Explorer with the Ecoboost V6?
  6. So, California going back to the Mexicans would be a bad thing?
  7. I have no problem with you guys voicing your opinions, it's the tone in which it's done. Lighten up for Christ's sake or go back to the employees section where nobody cares what you say.
  8. How Much lending will GM require: 1) Before bankruptcy: $23.4 billion ($19.4 B + $4 B ) 2) DIP Finance: $14 billion 3) New GM Cash Float: $26 billion 4) DOE Loan: $9.8 billion 5) Line of Credit: $10 billion What's that add up to? $80.2 billion.
  9. Clearly the problems lie with developing a sustainable supply of renewable fuels. If scientists can come up with a way of recycling carbon from fuel to CO2 and back again the earth will come back into balance and the greenies will be out of a job. It may require novel use of nuclear and solar power but ultimately a non-polluting energy source will be needed to make the reversal of CO2 economically viable. Carbon would then become an energy battery that gets used over and over.
  10. This fool comes on here saying him and his buddies are going to do all kinds of things and yet the UAW are working hand in glove with the Auto industry executives to make real change. Calling people traitors is a bit rich, keep it real. Robert, the owner of BON is responsible for displaying what you guys write, I don't think he would like the tone expressed in this thread.
  11. Good point, I think Muslims obey respective country laws that require monogamous marriage but where polygamy is allowed, the husband has to prove that he can support his wives and children. I doubt that many situations like that could be proved in the US.
  12. Exactly, do all the things you've suggested. Vehicles are the easy targets because there's millions of them around the globe but their effect on CO and emissions is but a fraction of the real villains - coal fired power plants. Australia alone exports close to 260 million tons of Coal to China and Japan each year, what do we care about vehicle emissions when those nations are going to spew CO2 everywhere.
  13. Moderators: Please step in and review Stugots posts. His presence on this site is offensive and not needed.
  14. Sorry, I didn't make my answer clear. I meant, three years ago Ford thought it could happen to them
  15. Ah, GM gets cash and still remains connected to Opel but the liability is significantly reduced. I wonder if the Saturn deal will be similar, that would make sense in the light of this agreement.
  16. $40 billion or $50 billion is a huge amount of capitol to pull out of a company. I can't see the sanitizing of GM, floating a new company and selling down that stock inside two years as being anywhere realistic for the US government.
  17. Remember, this was always about the impact an uncontrolled GM bankruptcy would have on employees, suppliers and the community. When the American people realize that GM is being divided into two, all the debts left behind with investors and suppliers so they can resume business as usual with taxpayers money, they're gonna be mighty pissed.
  18. Thank you for that explanation and boy, what a confusing web! So it looks like vehicle emissions are even more CO2 centered now and CAFE limits calculated from that. I wonder if post 2016, there is some sort of harmonization with European CO2 limits in gm/klm, converted to gm/mile for US regs. That would make more sense for Auto makers selling cars globally. I still don't think it's a major issue achieving the limits, it's just the way it's done. Some of us remember how all the good cars went away forever in 1980 only to find performance returned by 1985. As bleak as these regulations seem, they force all of us to be more efficient in our vehicle selections and even though we will pay more for vehicles, the new engine alternatives could be quite exciting. The thought of less petro dollars flowing out of the US also says that this is the right thing to do, smashing OPECs hold over the US and Europe has to be the focus of all future governments.
  19. I wonder if PDs now feel that the FWD Taurus with either the standard 3.5 or Lincoln 3.7 suits their needs. After having Crown Vics forever, it's a bit tough for them to make the quantum leap but give it a couple of years winter service in the Northern States and I'd say FWD will be a firm favourite. That would also give Ford the opportunity to then transition government and PDs to future Ecoboost and hybrid technologies, something fleet managers may be considering with CO2 on everyone's lips. Actually, a hybrid Taurus with it's battery storage may suit Police attending crash situations where they require additional power for lighting and communication systems.
  20. Flex fuel engines were introduced in May 2007 on the 2008 model Crown Victoria and available to police.
  21. Light Truck Project T6 = over 300 Engineers Ford have spent near $1.8 Billion on testing facilities in Australia Ford spent a shit load on FoA in 2006 making it a Centre of Excellence for Asia Pacific. The T6 Project will earn Ford Australia $700 million, they were going to reinvest that money into the GRWD and had begun the project when it was put on the back burner by Mulally this time last year. GRWD would not have been a cost burden on North America, Mulally and Kuzak wanted Taurus instead. You're now on Ford Jellymould's Christmas card list.
  22. You really need to check out what Tom Cackette Deputy Director CARB says about that. He basically said that a vehicle like F150 with 21 highway sticker = 26 mpg on their rating. LINK Sure this is pre national regulations but is still valid. I think you are really over reading the regulations big time and I submit that Cakette's judgement is more accurate than yours.
