  1. Ford had some really great concepts in that time frame that I would have loved to see them put into production. The Forty-Nine, 427, Continental, Cobra, Bronco, Shelby GR-1......among others. It seemed like year after year they were debuting a great design that gave you hope that a little adrenaline was going to be injected into the line-up, but only the GT40 ever became a reality (I'm not counting the Thunderbird or Mustang concepts, since we already knew that they were going to get built in some form before they debuted). Granted, a couple of those would have been halo cars that didn't truely make sense from a financial standpoint and some of the design traits from the 427 trickled thru to the Fusion, but one has to wonder what might have been had they pulled the trigger on a couple of these concepts (assuming they weren't limited production pieces and weren't overly expensive) instead of some of the designs that they elected to put on the market or chose to continue to produce relatively unchanged for decades despite sales going downhill in part due to the aging look. Hmm, I wonder how a Focus would look if they used the Reflex for inspiration... Sorry for going a little off topic on you. :blah:
  2. Not bad, reminds me of the concept from 2002, but with a brawnier look.
  3. And one more for good measure, a Taurus based Ranchero, closer to the Fairlane and Torino based Rancheros of the 50s and mid 60s thru the 70s. (sorry for the color issues - need a clone tool to make these things look cleaner)
  4. The Flex might make the most sense, as its size would allow for the most useable cargo room. At the same time, the Fusion might be a good compromise, as it would probably give a similar bed size to the Ranger (at least the ones with the stepside bed) and probably isn't far off the size of the old Falcon based Rancheros of the early 60s. I'm not sure of what Ford has in mind for their Australian platforms at this point (if they are going to be joining the global platform sharing scenario like Europe), but the Falcon Ute is already proven and might be adaptable to the American market at some point. While this isn't really a Ranchero, but more of a Ranger replacement or maybe a Courier, how about something based off the Edge?
  5. That's more like what I originally had in mind when I started, but couldn't get to fully translate. I didn't like the stripe much at first, but it's growing on me a little, might just need the right color combo to make it look right. I think the main issue is on the 68/69 Torino, the C-stripe has more room to form, going all the way tothefront of the fenders while this version is using the fender vent as its termination point. But, the style of headlights the Taurus has prevents that from really being remedied.
  6. Thanks for the positive comments everyone. I wasn't sure how it would turn out either, but was pleasantly surprised by the result. I'd still like to do a little more with it, but that will have to wait until I get Photo Shop or something similar. I love some of the more advanced renderings that guys like timmm55 have been doing.
  7. This is the car I was using for some of my inspiration This is a 1968 Torino, my father had a '69 back in the 70s. I'd love to get ahold of one some day to restore, show people that Chevelles and GTOs,etc weren't the only muscle cars of that era.
  8. I was just playing around with Microsoft Paint (I don't have Photo Shop to do a cleaner version) , trying to see how the Taurus would look if they made a coupe out of it. It would never happen since there doesn't seem to be a market anymore for a larger, more luxurious performance coupe like there was thru the end of the 90s, but I kind of like the result. I used the 1968/69 Torino for a little inspiration on the side profile, but to some extent, the new Taurus's nose could be a modern interpretation of the Torinos from 1972 thru the end of their run. I would have liked to do a little more tweaking to the overall look, but you're pretty limited when you use Paint.
  9. While this is going slightly off topic, I always see references to Ford copying VW/Audi with the chrome front end on the Explorer, but never any mention of a couple other vehicles that have been using the theme for a couple years themselves. Within the Ford family: Mercury Mariner Nissan Titan I actually like this theme when done right and if I remember correctly, a big complaint that people made when the manufacturers started putting plastic bumpers on trucks & SUVs was that they were leaving behind the look of toughness that came with a chrome bumper. This new theme brings them back to their roots to an extent. Now, getting back on topic. I'm not impressed by this new Chevy. It's not horrible looking (I remember seeing the new Ram a few years back and thinking I was going to throw up when I saw how huge they made the front end, this doesn't give me that same feeling). But, it looks like little more than a slight evolution of the same old design they've had forever. Is it more substantial than their past changes to the sheet metal and at least bring them closer to modern times? Yes, but the F-150 still looks better.
  10. I've been checking the web sites for the local dealers around me for the last couple weeks and hadn't been having any luck finding any Sport Tracs in stock anywhere within a 50 mile radius until today. Now the dealership closest to where I work has 3 XLTs in stock and another dealership a little further away has a Limited. They're all V6s and I was leaning more towards the V8 (don't really need it, just like the idea of having the extra power....), but at least this gives me a chance to see one in person and I'd be able to see what the ride is like. I'm glad I got my taxes taken care of this weekend. Maybe I'll spend some time taking a test drive or two next weekend. :happy feet:
  11. Thanks for the info Range & Calvin, I'll be watching the local dealers for when they come in. Now that you've had it for a while longer "to break it in", what kind of gas mileage do you get with the V8? I'm assuming there wouldn't be much of a difference between the regular Explorer and the Sport Trac in that regard and hope that it is a reasonable number, since I do occassionally have to take a road trip for my work. I've read that the V8 gets very comparable gas mileage to the V6, so if that's true, I might as well go with the 4.6, so I can enjoy the added power and the sound of a V8 when I have the windows down B). My current car averages in the low to mid 20s (I know I won't get that in an Explorer), but anything has to be better than my old Ranger that I was lucky if I got 14 mpg with.
  12. Hi, I know they've said the spring, but I was wondering if anyone has heard an approximate date for when the new Sport Trac is supposed to start showing up at dealerships. I've started looking into getting a new vehicle, but really want to see the new Sport Trac in person before making my final decision. I signed up for updates on the Ford web site a few months back when they first unveiled it, but haven't gotten any info out of it, aside from a small brochure for the regular Explorer and a small foam cutout of the Sport Trac.
  13. Nothing fancy, just a quick photoshop edit of how I think they could make a few small changes to the new Navigator front end to make it more appealing. The original '07 nose (picture from Autoweek.com) My minor changes
  14. The headlights and grille itself I kind of like, but that big chrome piece along the top and front bumper make me gag.
