  1. Makes you wonder if states with lower union numbers weathered the current recession better than those states with high union numbers. I don't have the data but it feels that way to me.
  2. Considering how bad the roads can get with frost heaves and pot holes the after a severe winter, the Raptor may make a lot of sense. Boston in particular has the propensity for nasty potholes during the winter months. Maybe the Boston PD should look at Raptors as a replacement for the Panthers.
  3. I was driving home from work yesterday on Route 9 in Framingham, MA and what to my surprise did I see but a molten orange Raptor, with dealer plates, out for test driver. I'm curious how many of these beasts will be sold in the Northeast since it seems to as far as you get from it's ideal domain in the Western deserts. It certainly has presence, but I could do with out the stickers on the rear. I can see how a Raptor would be a lot fun on the logging roads on central and northern Maine.
  4. We live in Mass and with a cottage and Maine and know a thing or two about cold winter days. To tell you the truth I would not buy a car without leather seats. They are just more comfortable and stain resistant than cloth. To each his own.
  5. Nothing very distinctive about it, new Fusion is much better. It kinda reminds of the last generation Honda Accord coupe.
  6. As the owner of an Audi A4 convert I tend to keep an eye out for other ragtops. Around here,(Metrowest Boston) Saab conv seem to be the most visible, followed by BMW's, then (low rent) Chryslers and then Audi and Volvo. This doesn't include the Miata, Z4,TTand that ilk.
  7. I believe that the Flex is going to more popular int he coastal region rather then the interior, time will tell
  8. Here in the metrowest suburbs of Boston Flexs are popping up like weeds and new Fusions are becoming very common. I wish I could held out one more year before I bought our Edge in 2007, I would have got a Flex instead.
  9. And I believe it doesn't have much by the way of towing capacity. At the time we bought the Edge we looked at both the 7 and 9, The 7 failed because it could not pull our 19 ft boat and the 9 because we just didn't want to pay the extra cost for the extra seating. The Edge was best for us, and still is.
  10. I know this is a little off topic but after reading through the AB comments you can't help but realize that the perception of Ford is changing rather quickly with the new product blitz. The current ford management team seems to be making all the right moves. If the economy hadn't tanked i believe Ford would be in a good position this year. New technologies like Ecoboost and DSG trannies and world class quality will not go unrewarded by the market place.
  11. http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/23/spy-sho...ht-in-the-cold/ Another fine effort
  12. New spy shots of the Taurus, looks like it might be the SHO model. Also noticed a small red hatch in trailer behind the the cladded Taurus, could be the Fiesta. Any thoughts? http://www.leftlanenews.com/ford-taurus-2010.html
  13. Since I own of each I can tell that they do not occupy the same user space. The Edge is larger, more comfortable vehicle than the Escape with emphasis on a serene traveling enviroment This feature is very useful for us as we travel 150 miles to our summer place in Maine and which allows us to arrive at the dock without having the feeling that we were put through the ringer but still carries all the clothers ansd supplies we need for an extended stay on the island. The Escape has always been a more rough and ready vehicle that can be called upon to perfom admirable in most situations and road conditons. The Escape is now the main transportation mode for my daughters. The Escape is great basic transportation with the added benefit of all wheel drive in tough New England weather.
  14. Stopped by my local dealer in Framingham MA to check out the two Flexes they had out front, loved the vehicles. Shame is I just bought a new Edge 9 months ago but the Flex with the tow package would have been perfect for our needs. They really are very striking up close, they should sell well, even in these times.
  15. This thing might have a chance , even the Autoblog folks didn't crap all over it like they do every other Ford product. Agreed that the hybrid drivetrain may be required in cities like NY. Since it was designed for commercial duty, it should be able to handle the stress of a city taxi.
  16. While having the oil changed on our Edge at the local dealer, aprox. 10 miles from the home of the soon to be 2008 Super Bowl champions NE Pats, I had an opportunity to walk around the dealership and was surprised at the lack of new inventory on site. A couple of Taurus, one Taurus X, a few Escapes, a few Focus, a few Edges, a few Fusions and a sufficient number of trucks and Explorers. One of the sales guys came out and I was curious about this and asked how the last two months have been. He stated that they had two very good months and that they actually outsold the two larger GM dealers located within a mile of this very small dealership by a large margin. His biggest complaint was that their allocation has been so reduced that they were having trouble getting inventory restocked. Ford may actually be in a good position to weather the recession.
  17. You didn't mention how the Edge is selling, most dealers around Eastern MA have limited number on the lot. Same deal where you are?

    On the Lot

Did any one see Fox's ON THE LOT last night. One of the Directors made a small film using an Edge as a chase vehicle. Best advertisement yet I have seen for the Edge, and Ford didn't even pay it.
  19. I saw my first new Taurus in the parking lot of Staples during my daily walk, a lot dominated by imports. It took me months to see my first 500 after they were released, I am really looking forward to spotting my 1st Taurus X.
  20. I don't know why the the 4 cylinder CRV is held up as the leader in this class. The relatively wimpy 1500 lb towing capacity is a joke. The PT cruiser has a higher towing capacity. I have said this before though, the lack of a modern transmission doomed this vehicle for me and I can't wait two more years to replace our 2001 Escape/ It looks like an Edge, Taurus X or something else come September. Boating Magazine gave the Edge high praise for towing, the CRV, not so much
  21. It really is a shame they didn't upgrade the drive train, this would be the replacement for our 2001 Escape. As it is, I just can't see the point of 4 speed tranmission in this vehicle. Hell, if I could get a 5 speed manual with the V6, I would buy one. Pictor
  22. Saw this earlier on Autoblog. Very well recieved. If Ford product managers read these things, pay attention.
  23. While looking at the Edge last week, the sales guy mentioned that two 2008 escapes came in the day before. Both were sold the day they came in. Nice looking vehlcle. Had Ford upped the HP and put a six speed trainmission, our replacement for the 2001 escape would have been a 2008 escape. I think that the 2008 styling will hit the spot for those people who want a more butch looking small utility vehcle than the softer looking crop that is pervading the market now(RAV4, Sant Fe, CRV, etc.)
  24. We have all had our say about the meirts of the name change and the grill but I would like know more about capability. I would like to know if anybody knows if the towing capacity of the repowered Taurus X will be equal to that of the Escape or Edge. With a familiy of four and two boats to tow, the extra space provided by the Taurus X over the Edge or Escape would be appreciated. Furthermore will HID/projectors be available? I have become spoiled by the lighting on my Audi.
