And as of today they get the 7500 tax credit and in my state an additional 3500.tax credit on the model Y.   The model Y was the best selling car world wide and the fifth in the US.  Around me there are 5 Super Charger sites within 5 miles of my house. While the NACS adaptor and eventual conversion to NACS will help, closing the cost gap and the source of the battery materials will be more important .  The funny thing is that after the the tax credit and trade in, my out of pocket for the Maverick and the Model 3 were the same.  I was considering the LR MME but the out of pocket  difference was deciding factor.  With home charging the need for the super charger network is a nice to have for long trips.  In the three months I have had my Tesla, I have used a Super Charger twice. I will use it more this summer when we go to Maine for the Weekend but will perform most of the charging in my garage

    If Hyundai were an American company and if it offered a direct-to-consumer sales model for BEV, I would have bought an Ioniq 6 rather than a Tesla Model 3 earlier this year.

    Agreed, I bought the model 3 LR because it was hard to argue with the 11,000 tax benefit, 7500 feds, 3500 Massachusetts.  A great trade in offer for 9 year old Audi and the online buying process made this the most painless car buying experience since I purchased my first new car back in the 1980s.  Looked at the Mach e, the Hyundai’s, Kia’s among others and nothing even came close for a plus 300 mile range vehicle from range and cost perspective. The vaporware cars such as the Pear or model 2 may fit the bill but I was looking to get an EV before I retire early next year. Between the Maverick for hauling stuff and towing the boat and Model 3 for kicking around town or driving to Maine on the weekends, we are pretty well covered.

  3. Same as here. Just ordered a long range mode 3. Would like to have ordered a Mach E but the cost after incentives and trade in of 9:year old Audi would have been around 15,000 more to get a car with similar range.  I  evaluated the final cost of all similar range EV’s and nothing from VW, Kia, Hyundai, Chevy came close for 300  mile plus range vehicles.  So far the buying experience has been painless, the user experience on the website  exemplary.

    We listen exclusively to SiriusXM and the 24 presets work great or to a thumb drive which I don’t think I can do with CarPlay.  So we use the built in Nav.  I think with Lincoln we get a 5 or 6 year subscription.  It works well on sync 4 except it won’t give you route options like Google maps so you have to use waypoints which is a bit of a pain.

    Do you mean a Bluetooth thumb drive to connect to a cell phone for apple play,  Works great in the Maverick.

  5. Broadcast anything (am, fm, tv) could disappear tomorrow and I wouldn’t notice. But Take away the  internet and cellular and I would be lost.  I am in my 6th decade and grew up with broadcast media but have no use for broadcast media now.  Hell I don’t even know if  the CD players in my cars still work. I live in an area of the country with great 5G coverage and take fast cellular internet for granted. I don’t think my daughters have ever listed to AM in their lives.  I am waiting for the day they remove the 12 volt power source ( cigarette lighter hole) and just have more USB outlets, another archaic holdover that takes up space.

  6. I for one plan to replace my Escape with a Maverick. Would have liked a bronco sport but I still have to tow a boat twice a year so the inferior towing capacity made it a no go. My wife didn’t appreciate the ride height of the regular Bronco, and to be honest the fuel economy numbers on the full size Bronco didn’t impress me since.  I could be wrong but I believe the Maverick may have a sweet spot in the Maverick. If only they hade enough parts build at a rate to meet demand.  The day to day practicality of the Maverick, fuel economy and price point point to long term success as long as they don’t screw it up by messing with the value proposition.

    That why I ordered mine, tomorrow is the day emails go out for next builds, fingers crossed but think it’s a summer time delivery at the earliest for me.

Not seen that in practice, I have seen knowledge jobs migrate to the source of the knowledge, university centers.  Putting a manufacturing plant in the middle of a cornfield is not a big draw for siting a research/lab center.  It all about the workforce you are trying to recruit. I run a group of pharma tech consultants, all remote but located in big bio/pharma tech centers. Nobody can predict the future but if things go south, people want to know they can get new job and not be tied to a position with no options.  In the last 20 years most of the major pharma moved R/D facilities Boston/Cambridge.  Why, for tax breaks, no.  For the talent pool.

    After Ford chose TN for BOC, Michigan upped the incentives to attract investment from GM.  NC gained an investment from Toyota after years of trying to lure in an auto manufacturer.  California wasn’t competitive and lost Tesla’s new factory to Tesla.  The list can go on and on.

    I bet the Maverick would have great appeal to Australians as well as they don’t have replacement for the unibody falcon based trucklets. Due to how they rate  towing capacity in the EU, the hybrid might have a found a home with caravan crowd with its great form factor for outdoor activities. By the time they could the Maverick set up right hand driving and those EU  regs the likely next gen electric version would be hard on its heels making those investments a poor use of capital.  I have been led to believe the Maverick was a fast tract project and most likely highly focused on the truck market Ford NA new best.  Random thoughts by someone waiting patiently for a build date for a velocity 2.0 l lariat with lux package, towing and moonroof.

  11. My wife and I we’re looking over the weekend for something to replace the Escape. We considered both but decided the Maverick was a better choice for our situation. Found several dealers willing to accept MSRP without adm and went with the one who wasn’t requiring me to make the pilgrimage to dealership to put in the order. Funny, saw plenty of Broncos at the dealerships with stupid high ADM but not a single Maverick to be seen.  The hybrid was never play for us in that we needed the 4k towing capability, just as well since those books are closed till August.

I owned the first iteration of the Edge with the v6 and the 2015 escape. 2.0 liter eco boost.  The escape pulls my 19 ft center consul  Eastern so much more comfortably then the edge ever did even thought they had the same tow rating.  The edge was the superior highway travel cruiser but we rarely needed that function.  On trips to our summer house in Maine the escape also delivered the fuel economy. If the interior of the new escape is indeed improved what role does the Edge occupy that can’t be filled with the escape or explorer?
