Good to see Ford beat GM to the TSP+ rankings. GM doesn't have any vehicles on the list at all. I'm sure the Edge will join the MKX on the list. The F-150, the only pickup to get the TSP award just needs the new software for the pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection to get the TSP+. I assume that will come with the 2017 refresh. GM seems to be going backward with their new platforms based on the results of the recent roof strength test of the all new Camaro. When is the last time a vehicle didn't receive a good score on the roof strength test? GM needs to rethink their lightweighting strategy if they're having difficulty achieving a good roof strength test result.

It's good to see that every Ford tested by IIHS has received the highest ratings in the core tests - front, side, roof, and head restraints/seats. Also good to see that Ford is able to achieve the highest score on the small overlap test as new models are introduced designed to meet the newest test. I would be greatly concerned if Ford went backwards on a test result like the GM did with the roof strength test results for the brand new Camaro. I'm still bewildered on why GM engineers couldn't achieve a good result on a such a routine and basic test that hasn't changed in years and years.

The Camaro's roof strength score is certainly puzzling. It appears that GM's light-weighting program failed in an area that should be fairly straightforward to achieve by now. The roof strength test is not a new test. Given the years and years of attention paid to rollovers it's surprising that GM engineers couldn't achieve a good score, especially on a brand new model. As for the importance of roof strength on these types of cars, per the IIHS report "Strong roofs are especially important for sports cars, which have among the highest driver death rates in single-vehicle rollovers (see "Saving lives: Improved vehicle designs bring down death rates," Jan. 29, 2015)."

A knee jerk negative response will often lead to an uninformed and incorrect conclusion. "Most of that extra (105 day) inventory is of the larger Super Duty version of the F-Series that Ford is redesigning and re-introducing this fall. The automaker is very comfortable with where we are on F-150 supply, Hinrichs said." Why would Ford not build extra supply of the Super Duty when the plant is going to switch over to the aluminum 2017 in two months? I think even the most casual observer would agree that it's prudent to have extra supply going into a major plant switchover.

I agree with that great automotive prognosticator BORG on this one, this is WAY too risky, no way Ford will EVER be able to deliver an aluminum F-150, let alone do it at a profit! Who are they kidding? On a different topic, how were the first quarter earnings today ?
