  1. That may be true, but the original post asks about the 5.0L, not ecoboost or diesels. Thats a whole nother debate !
  2. If you are thinking of a 5.0L Coyote , dont think twice- It is the best engine ever put in an F150 IMO and gets no marketing whatsoever. Ive had old 5.0s, 5.8s, 5.4s, 5.4 3valves and this engine is better, is good on fuel, revs like a chevy, and has a sound that an ecoboost just cant beat ! Twin turbo 6cyl in my truck ? Never. Let me know how that works out after your warranty is up. Trucks are supposed to have a v8.
  3. I cant tell you what kind of profit they could make right now, but a redesign was overdue 10 years ago... Some of the profits since 1982 or 83 to present maybe should have paid for it. Im sure the tooling had paid for itself 100 times over. The point is they are making a mistake leaving a segment that they once owned and could again with some forethought.
  4. Agreed ! The only reason the small pickup market has dried up is the selection sucks across the board. I guess Ford is ok with just handing the market to someone else like with the Freestar/Windstar or Crown Vic/ Lincoln. They've got enough customers and sales I guess..... IMO - going to another "station wagon" shaped vehicle is not an option for even compact truck customers. We just hold on to them longer. Crossover = todays station wagon, and quite frankly I wish someone would start to trend away from that look.
  5. Is this the first shot over the bow for our 2012 caw negotiations? Its aimed at Chrysler, but Im sure Ford and GM will jump on the bandwagon... My link
  6. Oh how I hope this happens... 2 years and counting on layoff !
  7. Roggie, my best wishes go out to you and your brothers and sisters up in St Thomas. Im laid off(almost 2yrs) from EEP in windsor and know how it feels. I think some of you guys are right on the money saying WTF, we gotta ratify this deal and the next day, a billion in profits ? Thats fuc**d, what was the rush? Caw/Ford in bed on this for sure... Just hope we get some of this work promised in windsor this being the 3rd time we"ve had to vote to get the same work promised a couple years back. :finger:
  8. For myself, I only get 3 weeks vacation. Since 2 are locked in for summer shutdown, I have to give up the only week I get to pick each year? Id also like many others rather have 2 tier, in STAP and at the Windsor site, with the amount of people on layoff, they wouldnt get to utilize it anyway. I see nothing positive in this for the Windsor site so unless Buzz lays a golden egg for us on Sunday, it will be a NO vote from me.
  9. Anyone else but me think there pushing it through quickly so they can hire new employees for OAC under the new agreement? I know Im not giving up my 3 weeks vacation that my senior brothers and sisters fought hard for in the past without a fight! I wonder if 6 more months of bargaining could help us give up a little less...
  10. Anyone know when Flex Job 1 is? When can we expect it in dealerships? I know you can order them now but when are we gonna see them on the lot? Its just my opinion but hopefully they dont stall it like the Edge launch. Alot of people are asking about them, myself included. In my opinion, I think its gonna be a winner anything outside of a "crossover" (stationwagon) will be a welcomed change. There all starting to look the same- something different will attract attention, and love it or hate it, at least it looks more like a truck.
  11. I worked there, and we've been hearing since last shutdown that they were planning a 5L V8 in low volume for the plant. Originally it was just for the mustang, but lately the rumors are mustang first, starting with 1 shift, then a couple variations for the truck and maybe some australia engines for a second shift. (300/600) I can tell you this, they've been working in there and the v8 crank area is in the process of been retooled now. The Cncs had to be shipped out and returned for the new operations. Dont know the timeline but hopefully its soon. By the time its ready, the EAP will be closed and who knows how many - if any jobs will be gained. Im hoping some of us can get back to work. We'll see what happens Monday...
  12. I have over 10 years and Im off, with this latest news, I may never be back. Unfortunatley many more brothers and sisters may join me. Sept 97 senority. PS: Global economy doesnt seem to be benefiting myself or any of us- Whose great idea was that? Sorry- just venting! :finger: to anyone who was a yes vote for free trade, worked out well didnt it?
  13. Another hit for us Ford of Windsor workers. Please offer me another buyout package so I can take it this time. It looks like Im never going back to work for Ford.Windsor star
  14. Id like to thank all employees of EEP for a job well done thoughout the years ! Im a Hot Test/Buyoff operator on the carousel and as I bought-off that last engine Friday at 2:25 pm - I couldnt help feeling sad that it has come to this point but greatful for all the good people and friends I met though the years and I wish all of you good luck in the future. Who knows, maybe Ford Motor Co. will wake up and realize that we workers are not why this plant is closed, its management not having the foresight to deliver new fresh product to the customers in a timely manner that got us here in the first place ! Maybe if we are lucky, one of the many new products that Ford Mo Co desperately needs to compete could be built here at EEP. I cant think of a better group of people who are up for the challenge of making a new and improved Ford Motor Co. Thanx again to all, sincerely, Jeff T. :shades:
  15. Ok, dont get your panties in a knot. You may be right about it being an 8200lb pkg, I will look for my window sticker and see what it says. I know its got a heavy duty pkg and Ill post it for you to see and we will find out just how much of an EXPERT you are. Also the avalanche wasnt heavy duty enough for my needs. The F150 was more heavy duty and better suited to my new trailer. Also I thought, why not give one a try, the price was right. I forgot to say in 95 I bought a new Mustang GT and that car was good to me. In 2000 I bought a Taurus, it was OK too. Dont flap your gums cause I had a few NON FORD trucks, I still did my part what about you? Try to keep an open mind and go drive a couple of the other brands... To F250: its the pads causing the dust... Yeah pads along with the junk ROTORS, that why you have to replace the rotors with the pads when you do a brake job. You d know that if you ever tried to have Ford rotors turned.
