I won't mention plugins since if your plugging in, why not just go whole hog?

We also have an Aviator GT PHEV... we got it over an EV so we can go anywhere we want without pre-planning for range anxiety, make 10 minute pit stops, not have to worry about extremely cold temperatures, etc.  PHEVs and Hybrids are extemely good stepping stones to full EV adoption. IMHO they will help with the transition, not slow it down.  If they didn't have PHEVs, we would have purchased another ICE because we're just not ready for a full EV... and that's just being realistic!!!

But the issue with AWD is that it hurts MPGs because of additional drivetrain losses.

That's not correct with the 2023 Escape Hybrid AWD for some reason.  Our ST-Line Elite AWD Hybrid window sticker says 42 city, 36 highway and 39 combined... exactly the same as the FWD models.  We still have our 2010 Fusion Hybrid FWD (now with 160K trouble free miles) and the new Escape Hybrid AWD is way more refined and gets consistently better real world mileage in all types of driving than the Fusion ever did.

The newer vehicles have variable fan speed auto settings.  At least our Nautilus does.  The auto button has 3 lights - low medium and high - which sets the max fan speed.  Works great.

The 2020 and up Escapes also have the 3 light auto settings, including our 2023 ST Hybrid... it does work great.  The 3 settings are at the bottom of the touch screen on 2023 models with Synch 4, but it works the same as the manual button in our daughters 2020 Titanium 2.0L

I'm glad to hear yours are holding up reasonably well. Over 40k relatively trouble free miles isn't bad, but 5th Gen explorers are known for regularly lasting 150-200k miles with little to no issues. Hopefully the 6th gens hold up over time, but the shear volume of recalls they've received concerns me. I believe the explorer/aviator had 11 recalls in the first year alone. It seems to have calmed down a little bit since then thankfully.

We had 5 recalls on our 2020 Aviator GT, with some of them being repeats of the camera issue.  All of them were just software updates.

  5. ^^^^Evidently, for 2024 the B pillar illuminated keypad will be late availability as a $350 dealer installed option on the higher end trims that will have the required wiring. It will no longer be factory installed.  Guess that's a better option than completely eliminating features like the hands free liftgate.

^^^Dealer called today to say it was delivered.  Tracker now says it both shipped and was delivered (final preparations) yesterday... so it must have shipped by convoy directly from plant to get here that fast!!!

You can tell how it shipped just by looking at it.  It had to have been convoy, on top and in front above the cab and facing backwards... the rear end is covered with bug splatter, lol.

It's alive!!! The BCE modules are activated.  The PCM is blank but I think thats normal.

Goofy order tracker... tear tag appeared Monday night then tracker updated Tuesday morning to built 7/24.  Got the official built email this morning and tracker said built at the top of the page and that shipping could take sevaral days to a week.  Now the tracker is back to order confirmed at the top with in production and built dates still there, but only the order confirmed dot is filled in green now... go figure!!!  Is this tracker behavior very common?

  8. ^^^My Escape's build day and blend date are both tomorrow, the 21st.  When should my status change to built?  Also, the window sticker says convoy and dealer is 400 miles from the plant... so should it ship directly by truck or could it still ship by rail?  Just looking for some input on what others have experienced!

And I would like to have that sub back, lol. It sounded good.

A good compromise for the Sony subwoofer would have been to make it easy to remove quickly without tools when more floor space was needed. Then just snap it back in place when done!

  10. The deluxe Sony system in my 2014 F150 Limited sounds fantastic, but it has a ridiculously large subwoofer like this one that totally ruins the storage capacity when the rear seats are folded up.  I would gladly give up some bass to free up this wasted floor space!  I can see why Ford switched to the ECS systems.

Hahaha, I find it really funny that they even admit the woofer is purposely ported outside:  "Where traditional subwoofers require a separate enclosure, the innovative Externally Coupled Subwoofer (ECS) uses the outside space surrounding the vehicle as a bass enclosure. Being mounted to the sheet metal of the Ford Escape and vented directly to the outside air, we not only cut down on weight, but can strategically place the ECS to maximize space inside the Escape."

As I said, the effect is that it sounds like you're listening to bass coming from someone else's car.  It is in no way integrated with the rest of the audio, and as is usually true of listening to the bass from someone else's car, it's very muddy.  Adjusting the available treble-mid-bass controls do nothing to make the bass sound better, all you can do is turn the bass down all the way so it's not quite as intrusive.

    Thanks for that link.

This reviewer seems to like the ECS in the F150...

My tracker works on my PC, but it keeps timing out on my phone now.  I tried clearing cookies and cache and restarting phone but it still keeps timing out.  Any ideas on how to fix?

Cleared everything including browsing history for all time and its working again...

My order tracker is worthless so far... got email with VIN, July 17 build week, and tracker link a week ago but tracker is still at order confirmed.  Why isn't the tracker showing correct status in real time?

My tracker finally updated this Thursday (weekly scheduling day).  "Scheduled week of" now shows Tuesday July 18 instead of Monday July 17.  So while it still says week of, it actually updated to my build day as verified by my sales manager!!

^^^ how long does it take for tracker to update after getting a VIN?  Just got it today with the Thursday scheduling... but build week isn't showing in the tracker yet, still at order confirmation.
