  1. ^^^ Completely agree and I would request a retail order and not a dealer stock order. I went through this exact thing with the 2011 Explorer. Granted it was a brand new platform for the Explorer but they were held for a while.. people were waiting 6+ weeks initially after their vehicle was built because as kirby stated, the way they are parked, first in means last out for delivery. Plus when you are spending that kind of money, wouldn't you rather make sure that all the bugs are worked out for any changes with the 16MY??
  2. Our property taxes are the same as well.. X per thousand based on assessed value which is always lower then what the house is worth. I guess no matter how you work it, the state is going to get their money one way or another. Our vehicle/trailer reg fees are higher but we also don't have sales tax or income tax so an out the door price on a vehicle is exactly what the vehicle price is (plus title fee). I know when I registered my snowmobile trailer, it was about $40 for the year but it is light and can't carry much. My 5th wheel dry weight is 11,200 but GVWR is 14k so I pay based on the 14k. Our registrations are based off of dealer paperwork so we can't change the weight ratings, it comes straight from the manufacturer and that's what the town/city/state uses to figure out reg costs. My SD was a hair over $1,000 for the first year and was $826 this year. So like I said, I guess one way or another, they are going to get the money they want, it's just in how they approach it. And then there are the whole insurance rates between F250/F350/F450 which I won't even get into. Doesn't fluctuate much in my state but I hear in our states there can be a significant difference especially going to a F450.
  3. I was thinking of a mustang when my truck is paid off (have always wanted one) but I think this vehicle is going to be way too hard to pass up. If it stays under $40k, I'll definitely be happy to welcome this as my 6th Ford..
  4. That's awesome that you know Mark, small world in a way.... he has helped out many on the TDS community in the 6.0 forum. His knowledge is quite incredible and always enjoy reading his posts.
  5. Going completely off topic now lol but since we mentioned the 5R tranny, here is a description from an Ex Ford Tranny engineer. I think I misspoke.. there is a high/low that creates 6 speeds rather then it being a 6 speed.. I'm no tranny expert so I don't know if that makes sense lol. Ignore the red words, I did a quick search for it using the keywords to find the post explaining it. Credit - http://www.thedieselstop.com/forums/f23/question-trans-06-07-a-357666/
  6. I think the easiest way to close it is to do exactly what my state does which seems to be the minority. First the truck registration, it is X amount per thousand the truck is worth and it drops by about 15 % each year for 5 years. Then it is also charged X amount per thousand of the GVWR (so the different between 10k, 11,400 and 11,500 is very minimal). Then we pay the same thing on the trailer.. it is based on X amount that the trailer GVWR is. as well as X amount of the value of the trailer and drops just like the vehicles over 5 years. Doing it this way, you can have a 11,500 truck and not be charged the ridiculous fees for people who aren't going to tow heavy and don't need it for commercial use. And for those who do tow heavy, well the state still gets their money because they got it from the trailer registration each year. Example, my 5th wheel, I paid about $820 for the year to register it for it's first year in May. It will drop down to about $650 on year 2, $500 on year 3, $350 on year 4 and then about $200 on year 5 and stay at the price for the rest of it's life (estimates but in the ball park). That to me is the only fair way to do it so those who tow, pay their fees, those do not, don't pay the same as those who do.
  7. Cyberdman, Could you get an update for me? Greatly Appreciated as always!! 1FM5K8D80GGA25265
  8. That is true, they could program differently and they can program differently when in tow/haul mode possibly using 8 of the gears in a particular combo one way, and the other 2 plus the same 6 in another combo.. That brings me back to the 5R tranny in the 03-07 (continued in 08??) where it technically is a 6 speed transmission. The 5R skips 4th gear unless it is in extreme cold conditions.. so although a 6 speed, normal driving was 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6th gear. Extreme cold was 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 gear until the truck/tranny warmed up (talking below 0 temps). And keep in mind that although a $7k upgrade, you get a good portion of that back upon resale so it really isn't a true $7k hit through the life of ownership unless you drive it into the ground and it goes to the scrap yard.

  10. IF you want a 16, just put in your order mid November and you'll have it in January or February. We should know in a few months what the 17 looks like. 17s should hit dealer lots mid to end of May pending the ok to ship/sell is given in the initial 5 day period.
  11. Adding some info a little late to the topic.. Akirby - the packages are strictly to get around state registration requirements.. nothing to do with the Fed govt. Example, 11,500 which is standard on the F350 (I have it) requires commercial registration in CA (must have DOT #s on the truck which opens up another whole can of worms). Because of that, Ford offers a 11,400 downgrade option and the only difference is the sticker... nothing different in how the truck is built and they are all the same parts to the suspension etc. Some states have 10k requirements so Ford offers even further downgrades. Although no different, the sticker is what tells you what is legal. So although the truck is capable of having a 11,500 GVWR, if you choose the 11,400 or the 10k option, that is the legal GVWR you can have and can be ticketed/fined if you are caught going over that. It's all in how owners can avoid accessive registration fees/requirements in certain states. To the OP, as far as KTP shutting down, it has not yet. 2016 orders are going to stop being accepted earlier then normal for a MY (towards end of November) to allow for retooling for the 2017 SD. Production of the 17MY is expected to start on 4/26.
  12. The person who did this said that it was just plug and play with the new hardware, no harnesses need to be changed bit some programming was needed. Can read about it here.. http://www.shoforum.com/index.php?threads/new-here-2013-sho.128950/
  13. I hope that they do however Ford IVT has stated that there will be no updates to a Sync 3 version of MFT. Whether Ford changes their mind or not, that is to be seen but as of now, they have said it's not going to happen.
  14. Technically that is not true. It is possible to upgrade MFT to sync 3 HOWEVER Ford has stated they do not have any plans to offer it. 2013 Taurus SHO with sync 3 installed.
  15. With a 10 speed and hopefully a 700lb reduction like the F150, there should be no reason they can't get 20mpg unloaded. If they can't do that, Ford is doing something wrong. I have a 2015 F350 with the 440/860 and that alone is amazing. It's crazy the 40-80mph acceleration in this thing on the highway. I know he said he was spinning the tires through 3rd gear lol.. My only thoughts are how much hunting the truck is going to do when towing a heavy load. I tow a 13,500lb 5th wheel with mine and it doesn't matter where I travel (thus far) it maintains 65mph in 6th gear.. I've pulled 5-6% grades and still never has to downshift to maintain speed. I question how much shifting the 10 speed will be doing.
  16. I wish I did have more info.. they are being extremely tight lipped with the new SD. I know one of the tunes they were running about 515hp in the 6.7.. It is obviously taking much of the styling ques of the F150 which is nothing new. I know my contact has driven a few of them and had taken a buddy I know for a ride in one of them and the 10 speed in them are quite impressive. Wish I could offer more but I can't get anything else out of him yet.
  17. Love the accents with exception to the graphics on the side and the red edges of the seats.. Should have just stuck wit the red stitching IMO.
  18. I know they have 6.7 mules running over 500hp and over 1,000 ft lbs but what they decide to do for an actual upgrade is to be seen. I know they are working on it from my SD contact... I know it will be via reflash as well but the real question is whether Ford waits for the 2017 SD for the bump up in power or if they flash the 16s as well.
  19. And I completely agree with you on that. I think it is a very tiny issue with the amount of vehicles produced but when you quote me and make it sound like you are replying to my comment directly, then I'm going to reply back. I don't think this is something that Ford should ignore and being that this has been going on for years, I think they are ignoring it. example, I am in a salt state but I also have my vehicle washed several times a week (touch free) and it is always garaged. There are no paint chips anywhere on my vehicle with the 80,000 miles on it. It looks close to showroom condition yet I just noticed this. How long it has been there, I don't know. Am I going to do anything about it?? Nope because it's not chipping away and it is underneath where it can't be seen. Am I upset about it, no not really but I sure would be if the paint was flaking off or it was on the outside. Regardless, aluminum is not a turnoff for me and I'll definitely be getting an Aluminum SD within the next few years. I'm not scared of it.. just hope Ford doesn't start having these tiny issues start showing up on a vehicle that is almost pure aluminum, after all, it's not just a hood anymore.
  20. And I have a problem with people who turn a blind eye on something that is an issue with Ford's vehicles. I didn't say this was a major issue, I said it is AN issue. IF it is happening with the same type of part (e.g. hood) across multiple vehicles that have aluminum hoods, then it IS an issue. It doesn't matter how small of an issue it is, it shouldn't be happening period. Owning an Explorer with this problem has nothing to do with this thread. I simply added that the Explorers are having this issue as well when someone posted that it is happening with the mustangs. I don't understand why it is happening but Ford should not be turning a blind eye on this. They have been warrantying them up to the 3yr/36k and telling owners it is on them thereafter. I surely wouldn't want to give up the factory paint quality for a repaint job at a local body shop so the solution is.. Ford, fix the damn issue so nobody has to deal with this. They all seem to be happening where a weld job is done at the lip. Why the paint decides to bubble in that area, I have no clue but it can't be denied that it is happening.
  21. The 11-15 Explorers are having the same issues with the paint bubbling on the hoods in the same area as the pocs posted here. Let's not defend Ford on an issue that is an actual issue. I don't care if it is a very small percentage of hoods, it is clearly an issue and the fact that it is happening on the hoods on different models in the same exact spot shows that there is an issue with a process that Ford uses/does. They are all happening on the underside lip of the hoods on the Explorers. Open up the hood and look closely, sometimes you have to peel the rubber gasket away.. It is happening on my 2011 as well (none of these pics are of mine) but none of the bubbles have opened up exposing metal.
  22. But if one was smart, they could make half payments every 2 weeks and have it paid off in 12 years instead of 15.
  23. http://247wallst.com/autos/2015/06/06/chrysler-offers-84-month-financing-on-best-selling-car/ 84 month financing???? Damn, if you need 84 month financing on a $25,000 vehicle, you can't afford a $25,000 vehicle!!!
