2024 Toyota Tacoma vs. Ford Ranger, Chevrolet Colorado: Midsize Trucks Throw Down! (motortrend.com)
Chevrolet’s updated Colorado is an impressive truck—impressive enough to have won our coveted Truck of the Year award for 2024. It’s worth noting the Colorado and its classy near-twin, the GMC Canyon, were the only midsizers in this year’s TOTY competition; the 2024 Toyota Tacoma wasn’t yet available, and the 2024 Ford Ranger was held up by strike-related shortages. Now, however, we’ve gotten our hands on both promising rivals. We know they’re greatly improved over their predecessors, but can they topple the Chevy?

It has a decent starting price for its size, but damn I was looking at the local dealerships and most of them are $45-50K, which is insane.
I didn't realize they bumped up that high.

My mistake I missed that, still seeing Lincoln so high is upsetting.
I know the Dodge Hornet has a stupidly long supply I think last article I saw was over 400 days supply of it. Hornet is far too expensive for what it is.
An Alfa with a Dodge badge?

So the tailgate is split.
Now we have to find out out if the bottom splits down (all Range Rover) or up like a nicer split glass format like the 2006 Explorer/Mountaineer/Aviator.
Not sure if that taillight into the tailgate it real. That close up photo looks like a fake sticker.
I am still not seeing the split design. I see the cut line below the liftgate lights, but that is a miraculous panel gap for something that everyone is suspecting opens and closes - I don't see it being possible. I think it's just a separate upper plastic piece like Tahoe (and Yukon and Escalade) have had for 2 generations now....
Expedition has also had similar for the current gen, it's just hidden by full width naming panels and/or a decorative chrome bar:
I still don't like the look of the taillights, and think the liftgate lights are going to look horribly tacked on, as they don't appear to have any visual connection aside from just being there.

Maybe a year just to see if Navigator was holding steady or not. I appreciate it!
We'll see how adventurous I get with it haha.
2018 would also be a good reference point with Navigator's redesign, but that would be 25 quarters lol....

It was fun for me too, I like making excel sheets and comparing numbers. Have you made one that compares the large luxury SUVs at all? I am curious if Grand Wagoneer has cut into Navigator sales at all. I looked at the numbers and saw it passed Navigator but I wasn't sure if Navigator has been losing sales to it. I am sure there is a trend there though.
I used to compare Cadillac and Lincoln......It became less "exciting" when GM switched to quarterly.
But I can work on putting something together......how far back do we want to go before Grand Wagoneer?

I'm really digging that new gt3 livery with all the nods to historical racing mustangs, that's awesome. They mentioned another addition to the mustang stable, and growing the mustang family with something new coming in 2025. This could be a new Shelby s650, or another high performance s650. But the way they were talking about it sounds a lot like they're hinting at some sort of new mustang model completely.
The teaser didn't look like an actual car, rather, a placeholder for what's the come.
Probably just a GT500. This is the closest picture/angle I found...

Though I think the Ford has been giving the Mustang variations of these modern flat 5-spoke muscle-car wheels even before the Camaro returned.

I appreciate you keeping those spreadsheets going with the sales numbers. I did it for quite a while on GMI but it's tedious especially with GM switching to quarterly.
Of course. Believe it or not, it's fun for me lol. Yeah, I gave up on monthly with other brands, and only assemble the quarterly comparison of the brands for trucks. It'd be too much work otherwise.
The production figures above are from Ford's press release though (for some reason Dec 2023 didn't have them, that's why I used Nov).

Obviously, that’s a pretty substantial number, but I would like to see a few more months before I passed final judgment. Clearly something is up though.
In 2023, there was a dip to just 82 units in October that could theoretically have caused a ripple in sales in Q1, but production has been around 12k per month for Jan/Feb, and almost 10k for March this year, so sales should have balanced out by now, if it was from the October production issue.
And while anecdotal, I too will echo sentiments that dealers now have inventory of Broncos - regular and Raptor - on the lot (though likely still with addendums, which could also be why they're not moving).
I'd agree that we should wait and see the end of year results before saying the roof is falling, but I really think they need to look at pricing.

Ford's talked about surprises for this event, without going into more detail than that. An appearance package is hardly a surprise, so fingers crossed they show something neat during the livestream tonight.
I doubt it's much...

But "special edition" trim packages often signal a models "end of life"... Unless Ford comes up with substantially more later today, looks like they're giving up on the Mustang.
You're just trolling at this point. This is a ridiculous take.

I think Ford has jumped the shark on Bronco pricing. Broncos are now being stocked on the lots around me, whereas this was never the case before, and you can buy them with a hefty discount. I’ve even seen bronco Raptors being advertised for $5000 off.
They affectively drove me out of the market based on value I see in the vehicle.
I think the next few months worth of sales will give us an idea on the impact of Bronco pricing.
Bronco sales are down 25.79% for the year through March.

Leadership has a major impact on a company like Ford. It really is amazing how one person can literally influence and control direction and strategy so much.
I honestly have reasonable hope for Lincoln moving forward. There are a few different silhouettes that will join (or at least they were supposed to) in the next couple of years that should make the faithful much happier.
Sounds nice, but publicly they've basically said Lincoln has nothing on the horizon aside from Navigator. Ford plans change on a whim, though, so it'll be interesting to see what they add. If they could just stick to a plan lol....

It looks nice, though the wheels remind me of Camaro.
But at the end of the day, as I said when they teased it, it's just a sticker package.....there was no need to tease it, IMO.

In all seriousness, I really wonder what Ford's plans are long term with the Bronco pricing-they seem to have based the price increases on the ADMs that where on them the first few years and has dropped since production has increased. Are they still planning on a price hike when a refresh comes about? Will demand keep softening that incentives are the norm, like they are on the Wrangler (a friend of mine got a 4XE for almost 20K off after rebates/incentives a couple months ago) currently?
They need to lower prices like they've done on Mach E and Lightning. Somewhere in between release pricing and what they have now.

Completely missed the point. Kia would kill to be able to sell 900k vehicles at the kinds of margins that Ford gets with F series. But they can’t because they don’t have the experience or expertise nor are they willing to make the huge investment required.A company has to play to its strengths and what works for one doesn’t work for another. Companies that aren’t US based evolved differently. And companies have to prioritize their resources.
They cancelled Continental, Taurus, Fusion, MKZ, Focus, Fiesta and Ecosport. But they added Ranger, Bronco, Maverick, Bronco Sport, Aviator, Mach-e, E-transit and Lightning. And they’re working on at least 4 more new vehicles.** Escape isn’t going anywhere now and I think Edge will be back.
It’s a zero sum game unless you’re willing to build new plants and hire more people.
** Until the current plan changes in 3 months for another new plan lol.

Here a regular escalade in sport trim
I still hate how tall the front ends of the GM trucks and suvs are - they need to lower the hoods.

I'm not saying boxy is bad (I've had a Flex and Bronco, after all), just that on that new Land Cruiser every single element on the front end is a box - they could do with adding some other elements - the base models have round headlights, for instance that create some visual interest other than 8,000 box shapes.

The fact they already have a vehicle and space at Flat Rock says the ROI must be terrible.GM and Toyota have always valued volume over margins while Ford is the opposite here lately. GM and Toyota definitely have lower costs so their ROI is batter on individual vehicles. Ford wasted a lot of money developing so many new platforms and engines recently - some of which were discarded. And we know about warranty costs. When you keep things longer and don’t develop as many new things your cost tends to stay much lower.
But I wonder if it's that or if it's more that they don't want to backtrack on the "all things trucks and SUVs, no sedans" mantra to prove they're right?

You have to be careful about that. It can appear that other cars have brights on when it’s just the curve of the road. If the fog lamps are on then brights can’t be on for factory lights at least. That cop must have been having a bad day.I usually can tell when someone has their brights on, but there are definitely times where I'm not sure and hesitate to flash.

Oh yes. In Miami, leaving space between you and the car in front of you is only room for someone to scoot in between.
Sadly, you get forced to drive that way or you'll continually get cut off.....and the auto cruise control systems are too "dumb" to realize you could coast to the preset speed rather than slam on the brakes.

I"m sure Toyota is a business too. Having a full range of vehicles allows Toyota to be strong globally (the development cost of a model is spread across all units sold sround the world). Ford's streamlined lineup also means it has less vehicles it can market outside North America.
I've long said they already did the work for Mondeo and Zephyr for overseas....just import medium to high trim models only (no low trims) and keep prices up that way.

The annoying thing I've been experiencing in my area is people who have zero patience when a light turn greens. I'll be at a light with 2-3 cars in front of me, The light changes green and I hear someone honking from behind me when the people haven't even gotten their foot off their brakes to start going in front of me. I'm blaming the people who come from NYC for that, but we've always had immigration from that area, but its something that just started happening after COVID started.
Lol, clearly you haven't been to South Florida.....folks here honk before the light turns green lol.

I agree, but I also get the caution on the current state of EVs due to the rapid development of the technology. ICE is a pretty mature technology. Five years from now drivers can expect somewhat better MPG and (maybe) performance from ICE vehicles, and certainly a lot more hybrids. But from EVs many anticipate a dramatic improvement in range and/or weight with the emergence of solid state batteries. Still, the smartphone syndrome is real. In one or two years there's always going to be a much better device available. Why (ever) buy now?
I understand too - but it has seemed like those sorts of upgrades can be swapped out "on the fly" after production has started, rather than continually pushing back new product.
As I pointed out above, it'd be a bit different story if ICE products weren't gutted for EVs, so now it's the worst of both worlds - EV product delays and limited new/updated ICE products until they can push both out.

I agree with that. But I think we’re underestimating the impact of the changes from the skunkworks team. I think they are fundamentally changing the way Ford designs and builds EVs which will either give them a big cost advantage or at worst keep them on par with other industry leaders. You don’t need 100 people working for 2 years in secret just to redesign a couple of vehicles. It’s far more fundamental in my opinion especially considering the team members.I also think this EV delay would be more of a moot point (i.e. wait until they get them right outside of Mach E/Lightning that are already here) if they'd stick to consistent refreshes/redesigns of their entire product line. Instead, we continually have abnormally long product cycles - 4-5 years for refreshes, 7-8 years (or longer in Edge's case) for non F-series products, while the competition is on 3-6 year cycles for most products like clockwork.
2025 Ford Expedition Interior Spotted
in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum

It will be interesting to see if the lower half folds down or if it folds up like a traditional liftgate (similar to the '03-'05 Explorer). Especially on a vehicle this large with a massive third row cargo area, the flip down approach will make it harder to reach further into the vehicle.
A screen does not make an interior. You're acting like you know every single item will be identical and swap out badges.
This is the Expy's interior. We unfortunately haven't seen Navigator's yet, but we do know that Lincoln uses a more horizontal theme, and has elements like the piano shifter buttons, which means the entire dash beneath the screen can and likely will be completely unique. I'd imagine Navigator's interior will take cues from the Nautilus look with the full width horizontal vent, and a lot of the detailing seems to match the look of the Star concept, which will give a completely unique look vs. Expy. Let's not panic before seeing it.
