  1. I had mine a few weeks ago and didn't notice anything different about braking. As for fuel use, it's impossible to conclude anything about the effect of the brake software update because the weather has warmed up so much the last couple of weeks. I live in Michigan, and MPG's were low during the winter but are very high right now.
  2. I don't think there is ANY premium owing to the technology. There is only one owing to the price/value of the car. I traded in a 13-year old Taurus. The added cost of insurance for me has been negligible. The cost depends far more on your coverage, your deductibles, your driving record, and the price of the car than on the type/model of car you buy -- at least within this particular (mid-size sedan) market.
  3. I wonder how this sales path of the FFH compares with Ford's expectations. If I had to guess, BTW, I think Mercury is a brand that's likely to be phased out. (My FFH salesman implied as much.) It will also be interesting to see what happens with sales overall and by platform when a ) the 2010 Taurus arrives, b ) the 2010 Fiesta arrives, and c ) the cash for clunkers program is implemented.
  4. I ordered my FFH on 5/13 and it arrived on 6/19. I think a lot depends not only on backlog to the build date but also the shipping time.
  5. Atlantis Green For those who wanted a picture of "my" Atlantis Green FFH, this picture captures the color quite accurately (though your monitor may show it a bit differently from mine): http://www.canadiandriver.com/galleries/im...gw_012-3659.jpg
  6. I paid $1870 for 6 year, 100K miles wall-to-wall extended warranty. It would have been $80 less for 5 year, 100K miles.
  7. Because my basic commute to work is less than 1 mile (I can easily walk or bike if I'm not having to haul stuff), I don't build up a lot of daily commute miles. I did buy the extended wall-to-wall warranty, 100K miles + 6 years (the additional year was $80, so what the heck), since I expect to do maybe 15-20K mi per year. So far, I'm loving this car but haven't had time to sit down and go through all the electronic options. Have all of 100 mi. on the car at this stage just running errands around town plus one stint on hwy to check out acceleration and so on. Compared with my old '97 Taurus (which I've built into my physical memory....), the steering ratio is not quite as high, but it's quite good. People who've seen the Atlantis Green color really like it and remark on the luminescence of the paint (in sunlight). Under clouds the car really doesn't look black to me, just very dark.
  8. THX. That's my thinking, too. It's just that I'm getting slightly shell-shocked as I add up all the real costs and am about to hand over a huge check. Cost of this car is significantly more than I've ever spent before. True, I started out with a VW bug for $1,935. (But that's also when a dollar was really a dollar. In today's dollars that would cost $11,300.)
  9. BTW/ has anyone here purchased extended warranty on FFH? Any thoughts on it?
  10. Could be. Will get the car later today (bright sunny day). My daughter is an artist and she chose the color! I've had all kinds of blue and silver Fords (Tauruses). Had white and rally green in the old days (VW bug, Dasher). Don't like red cars (though had a maroon Malibu once). So I am happy to go with something different.
  11. My FFH 501A+, Atlantis Green, arrived at the dealer today -- 4 days ahead of the projected date. There's a bit of checking and prep to do. I hope to pick it up tomorrow. That would mean the total waiting time from order date of May 13 to June 19 was just 5 weeks. Not bad at all. This is going to be a very fun weekend! How long did it take to learn all the tricks of BLIS, Sync, the gauges, etc.? Should I just drive it and "learn on the job?" P.S. Trading in my trash heap of a 1997 Taurus, so staying Ford loyal here (have owned Fords since 1986!).
  12. Thanks. Yeah, I'm not holding my breath because I've read your and other stories. What a PITA! I will keep my fingers crossed for you. I told myself to wait at least one week before calling the dealer again, to see if there's an update -- and make sure I've got the loan all in order. In any case, there's likely to be a day or two for final dealer prep. I've got a friend who wants to test drive my car, since the dealer had no FFH's on the lot and this is the car he thinks he wants; and so he's bugging me a bit on this, too, because he wants to commit by end of June.
  13. I learned today that my FFH's ETA at the dealer is June 22nd. I ordered it on May 13th. I don't know the build date but certainly it's en route at this time. I can hardly wait.
  14. I don't see how the Taurus will take away Fusion Hybrid buyers, but it might take away std Fusions buyers. As a long-timer owner of Taurus's (since 1986!), I'd have taken a look at the 2010 Taurus if I weren't committed already to the hybrid concept. Where is the 2010 Taurus being built? What is the balance between FFH and standard FF production -- both at same plant?
