  1. 100%. Everyone knew this made sense. Especially since I would imagine the life of the GT500 will be on pause for a while as the NG Mustang rollouts out. The 7.3 gave them hope though. I found the "air filtration" comments for a supercharger to be most comical.
  2. You make fun but the Bronco had a lot off road cred right until is was stopped being produced. Had it gotten too large? Sure. Did they let it rot on the vine. Yep. Could it still be a good off roader. Yep. Was it fairly reliable. Yep. Now let's talk about the Thunderbird. I will completely ignore the low volume, limited selling, retro model that lasted a whopping 4 model years that was a just a hodge podge of S-Type/Lincoln LS/Explorer parts melded into a convertible form. Other than performance variants (TC and SC), what was it know in the mid 80's through mid 90's? A large coupe that was going away of the dinosaur that had middling performance in a shrinking segment. The name may mean something to you, Ford fans, or people older than 55 but I seriously doubt it holds much to the average consumer. Sure they can name it the Thunderbird but the history or nostalgia of past models mostly likely WILL NOT be a selling point. It's much like Chevy reusing Blazer on their small CUV.
  3. I’m not sure this is a good idea. Thunderbird name is almost 70 years old. It’s been way too many years since it was relevant. The last Thunderbird was just a half baked gift for boomers to buy on the way to retirement. I’d say the last special bird was the SC in the early 90s. After that they decontented and watered down till end of production. They would really have to do their homework on this one for it to succeed.
  4. Since they already have an FX4 package, I could see them giving the Maverick the BS Badlands suspension bits and locking diff for a Tremor package. That's my hope at least.
  5. I'm not saying that you experiences aren't valid but all vehicles have issues. Go to the new Tundra forums and tell me how that new twin turbo engine and trans is doing. Pretty much guarantee Stellantis/FCA or whatever they want to be called will have issues with the hurricane engine. Go to a Hyundai forum and see how that 8 speed trans is doing or their V6. If you want to the best chance of not having a problem with a vehicle, buy one of the last model year of the generation.
  6. If you go to BG6, then this is a massive problem with the 2.7. The sky is falling. Don't look up at that asteroid. WE'RE GONNA DIE!!! The reality of it is, there is probably 40-100 cases where the 2.7 drops a valve. All replaced under warranty. Seems like this is small batch of 2.7 with this issue. Given the amount of 2.7's around, this doesn't seem to be wide spread. Although it would be a bummer if it happened to you.
  7. Freep Looks like they are trimming some of the fat in Engineering. Not sure what to think about that.
  8. Why would this be bad? ICE and alleged future hybrid version will be built at MAP. Full electric somewhere else. ICE will still be around by the time you retire.
  9. I'd be interested in which Lincoln dealership in the Chicago area you went to. When I had my Lincoln, I went to Napelton in Glenview. They were small but seemed ok. Having that MKZ was short lived. I seemed to go there often (hence why that ownership was short) and they diagnosed most issues I had. Each time they had me a MKC loaner. On side note, Napelton just got busted for being a crooked dealership by adding fees and charging certain demographics more than others. In regards to dealerships as a whole, pre Covid it was always a mixed bag (Lincoln or otherwise). Shady practices and poor services were nothing new to the industry. However, dealerships cut a lot of their staff since inventory was down. Why have 20 sales folk when 10 will do, when you are only able to stock 40% of what you had pre Covid? The staff that's left knows they barely have to lift a finger to get a sale now due to supply/demand. MSRP for anything other than a low selling vehicle is the floor these days. I think over the past 12 months, Americans on average are paying more than 5k over sticker. In regards to service though, I would think that each Lincoln dealership would want to do their best at service as that's the cash cow. If the management gets too cheap and doesn't want to provide the services/perks, that were sold with the Lincoln then I'd never set foot in there again. Easy for me since there seem a decent amount of dealership under an hour drive from me. Not so easy for folks that have only 1 in their area. My view of dealership service is they get one strike, any other BS I will never go there again. So getting back to Akirby's point, I don't think there is much incentive at this time for sales staff to put much effort in responding to potential clients. I can imagine the staff that is there, is probably overwhelmed with calls/emails .Personally, I'm very surprised that X plan is being offered to him. For now, I will have to just dream of fully stocked lots with attentive sales staff.
  10. I’m dreading what fun I’ll have putting in an order this fall. It just seems like the news gets worse and worse. Most dealers are doing the bare minimum as far as client interaction now.
  11. I mean, the Edge technically should have all the bugs worked out by now. Other than some light interior upgrades (screen), I don't know how much has changed in the past 4 to 5 years.
  12. My best worst story was when I was a young teenager. My father just purchased a 1991 Aerostar XLT extended with the 3.0 Vulcan. The day he brought it home, we went to my grandparents (who only owned GM's). When leaving, the Aerostar would not go into reverse so we couldn't get out of their drive way. Had to have it towed with 15 miles on it. Transmission replaced. Other than a rear end issue (my father blamed me) and being totally gutless, it was a good van post transmission replacement.

  14. I think what's missing here is that all the Hemi faithful will no longer have the "it doesn't have the V8 sound, I don't want it" quip to bash the Ecoboost when they go with a future FCA product.
  15. I don't buy that they are thinking about bringing those back to US market. The fuel economy difference isn't really that big between CUV and sedan. Are these cars going to not have chips? Are they going to be profitable? The biggest hurdle for Ford is chips and batteries. They have the vehicles
  16. I have a Fusion right now but I'm most likely going to get a truck next so this is also on my radar. I use a sea sucker right now and they may have a solution for this. Their mounts attach to any flat surface (rear glass, cab top) and I believe the have a lefty mount too. I was skeptical using them at first but. I've driven up to 80 with my bike on top and have had no problems.
  17. Most really didn't get to feel the pain. Free money loans (so much fraud), government checks (so much fraud), economy wasn't doing bad, and most people were spending like crazy (those that were working). It's like we delayed the effects of the pandemic. Now that interest rates are skyrocketing, no more handouts, inflation through the roof, and now gas prices are acting like unstable gas prices. All this and now we have a volatile world climate that, if things go terribly, the US could get dragged into. They don't want to say it on Bloomberg or CNBC but the reality is the future for the US economy isn't going up right now. Talking to economists in my office yesterday, Q3-Q4 this year could be really bad. Now are the wrong sometimes? Sure, but I'd expect things to be really volatile for a while.

  19. This is an interesting conversation with several moving parts. In regards to the economy, the ridiculousness over the past 2 years needs a correction. We are at the beginning of a recession and bubble burst. Too much free money which promotes unbridled spending, which combined with the pandemic has prices soaring. The housing market needs a reset. Dealers charging 10-20k ADM needs a reset. Credit availability needs a reset. Government handing out "free money" needs a reset. The chip crisis is real but I think "more real" for non Asian carmakers. So until that is resolved, we are going to have somewhat of supply issue. Ford has a pretty respectable plan, the chip crisis and battery supply issues is making it harder to implement. I think basically making a HEV/PHEV bridge to pure BEV makes sense. Sure their trucks can be thirsty, but the F-150 has a hybrid and the 2.7 which get respectable mileage. I do fault Ford their reliance of Asian chip manufactures. Worst case scenario has occurred and they got bit pretty hard. The uproar over $4.00 gas seems to highlight how many people leveraged themselves to the brink. Gas prices have increased a lot for sure but this should not be OMG, I can't afford to fill up. Americans are good at overreacting and making knee jerk decisions that don't make much financial sense. Banks and dealers are more than happy to accommodate them. I predict this year will be a wild ride. Hold on tight. It's needed though to get back to "normal"....whatever that is.
  20. I bought an extended warranty just for this on my Fusion. 94k (roughly 10k left on warranty) and still running strong. Just changed the plugs, flushed coolant, and cleaned throttle bottle. Runs like a top. Hopefully, it will keep running till I get whatever 2023 model I order.
  21. I'm sad. In a 2019 world (if these vehicles existed), I'd put in an order for a Bronco or Ranger Raptor and most likely get it for MSRP. With a reasonable build time. Not so much now.
