  12. Again, I have no issues with it disabling itself in the rain. At all. What it should do, however, is reset itself when the conditions improve. It apparently doesn't do that. I had the car at the dealer on Wednesday, and they agree that the owners manual implies it will re-set. However, unless it is raining/snowing and they can drive it, then drive it in acceptable conditions long enough to see if it resets, they cannot test it. (Which makes sense) There are no TSBs on this. My next test, and who knows when I will be able to test it, is to see if it actually does reset if you leave it on but alone (i.e. not switch it to normal to get regular cruise back) long enough.
  13. I completely disagree with you, as do others I suspect. The owners manual specifically states you can "wait a few minutes" for the system to resume normal operation when a sensor is blocked / obstructed. It does not do that. Period. There is no argument here. It fails and the only way to reset it is to stop, turn the car off, and resume. That is not "waiting a few minutes for normal operation to resume". My experience only plays into the fact that I may use the system when others would not due to conditions. I have NO PROBLEM with the system disabling due to weather. My issue is with the steps that are required to resume normal function. The way it functions is not acceptable for the long term. I have no choice but to deal with it at this point. I am not the only one who has this concern.
  14. ??? Am I asking to be flamed on here? Do you somehow think that this conversation isn't a valid one? 25 years in law enforcement with real driving training and driving in weather of all sorts does make me something of an expert in operating in adverse conditions. I didn't know I needed to post a resume along with my comments. The fact is, the system fails too soon, and doesn't reset without stopping the car. You mean to tell me that it is acceptable that if I drive through a brief downpour while on a long trip that if I want my adaptive cruise control back, I have to stop? Simply doesn't make sense, and that is exactly how it behaves. Perhaps if you were actually driving one of these vehicles, you would understand the flaw.
  15. Correct - The problem is, that the system does NOT correct itself. The table about errors implies that you can "Wait a short time. It make take several minutes for the radar to detect that it is no longer obstructed". This is not the experienced behavior. Once the error comes up, it does not recover without turning the car off and re-starting it. You can toggle the cruise control between Adaptive and Normal in the menus all day and it will not recover without the car being powered down. In addition to this, the sensor, from my perspective, is too sensitive. I get it that when it is raining HARD, you probably shouldn't be using it anyway. However, even in moderate rain, road spray from surrounding vehicles will cause it to fail, and then you are out of luck for the rest of the trip.
  16. Three big things for me: - Reiterate the need for better manual control of climate. I want OUTSIDE air through DEFROST DUCTS and DASH DUCTS without the air conditioning compressor on. You can NOT put the car with any mix that includes the defrosters without it turning on. UGH. - Get rid of the damned hump on the floor near the seat on the left side. I like to pull my left foot up close to me on long drives. The hump drives me crazy. - User selectable DRL. I had a Camry rental while on a trip (That's worth an entire other post. What a POS car that is). The only nice thing about that car was you could set the DRL on/off on the stalk with the headlights. As a sub-component of DRL, I would like to see HID/LED headlights/DRL. My bet is on LED because of the low power consumption, especially on a hybrid. Most of the other things in this listing I am OK with in some form or another, they just might not be pain points. For example, MFT could use some work, but I still love it and think the current version works great. I know that a TON of it has to do with what phone you have. I have a Blackberry Z10 and it works flawlessly with, I believe, every feature available.
  17. Let me know how you make out on this! Of course I am getting the "You can't activate DRL" issue, and I am reporting the noise as well, which has been an issue on and off for me.
  18. Agreed that this could be the case. Both pumps indicate ethanol, but they don't indicate whether premium has ethanol or not. There are a lot of discussions about whether premium does or does not. I wish they had a sticker on each one. Gas was bought from same station each tank. I am going to try the station closest to my home (Sunoco) and see how it behaves next tank. Typically, 2-3 mpg savings offsets the cost premium. Also, I will be interested to see if the same effect is had during cool weather. The simply function of an ICE is clear with today's technology to avoid knocking that higher octane fuel equates to better engine efficiency/output. Jury would still be out on the effect during cool weather. I have also been tempted to go to a no-ethanol station to try. Problem is, the closest one is about 18 miles away in the wrong direction, so it means a special trip. Perhaps a night to go for ice cream or something. haha.
  19. An observation I am currently making and now decided to test the theory... One of our local grocery chains has a program where you get cents per gallon savings each month based on your store expenditures with their "Bonus Card". About 1/2 their stores have a gas station in the lot. A couple of weeks ago, I had $0.50 off per gallon, so I decided to give premium a go in my car. (91 octane) Much to my surprise, I get about 3-4 MPG difference on my trips. The tank didn't turn out great because of a couple hard rain commutes, but it kept my average up, when it normally would have been a crapper of a tank. I am nearly finished with the next tank of regular 87 octane fuel. Definitely back where it was. Some reading reveals that premium MAY have a bigger difference when it is hot, and it has been scorching hot the last week for our area. So I decided to manually create some values to see how the math comes out. These are "abouts" of what I am seeing it trips. My commutes on the premium fuel shot up to between 47 and 48 each way. I initially wondered if it was simply the warm weather, but when they dropped to the normal 44-45 range on the 87 octane fuel?? Anyway, I thought I'd throw it out there. The price comes out to a pretty dead heat. If the actual mileage value is a 4 mpg difference, then it starts to be a $1 per tank, and another $1 per tank for every full mile difference in MPG. Anyone else try this?
  20. I have been searching and find that BMW has a horrible time with this problem, and it is usually caused by waxing/cleaning your door jambs. If I am right on this seal, that isn't the case, because where I believe I can recreate the noise isn't where you would wash/wax. However, silicone based gel lubricant is what has been suggested for those seals. Perhaps that would work. I think spray would make a mess unless you were super careful. I am sad that people are having this concern, but happy that i am not hearing things. Make sure you tell your dealers. Perhaps we can get a TSB of some sort on it.
  21. Is anyone else getting a light scruff / rubbery squeak / rub sound on their door when going over bumps? I started getting this about 1000 miles in. Dealer noted that the seal on the body looked flattened and was out of alignment compared to other cars. They replaced it. Sound was gone for a couple of days. Then back, but different. I was pretty sure it was because I cleaned the door jambs too well and likely had some leftover something on the microfiber. Cleaned them with Goof Off (works great by the way). Sound gone again. Now it is more of a clicky sound. Play with the seals again and I can recreate the sound by pulling the door side seal away from the door a bit between the nibs that connect into holes in the door. Sounds like of like you are sticking tape on the paint and pulling it off. If I loosen these spots where the seal on the door rests all the way around, it will stop for a day or two, then come back. I am due for service shortly, so I will see what the dealer says about it. I actually think that while it doesn't really look like it, my driver door is slightly out of adjustment and doesn't close quite tight enough. No wind noise or anything. Just this tiny little annoying rub. Turn radio up = can't hear it. However, I frequently drive in silent reflection. Anyone else?
  22. So a subjective question for you - Do you see a significant difference in the headlights by using the SilverStar Ultra headlights? I used them in the past, and thought they were marginally better. However, I started experiencing them burning out more often than standard, so it didn't seem worth it and I stopped using them.
  23. As someone who has advanced training operating a vehicle and many, many years in my previous career operating vehicles in extreme conditions beyond what most people can handle, I certainly know when it is or isn't safe to use cruise control. The issue is that this happens at all. It should not essentially "break" the system. Have to change the settings or "power cycle" the car just isn't right. I don't know if the sensor will mess up if the car isn't actively engaged. I need to try that. (E.g press brake to disengage and then re-engage later) Lastly, road spray from a truck caused it to fail one of the times, and it wasn't raining all that hard. Thanks akirby for the acknowledgement that you have had it happen as well.
  24. I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. I drive quite a bit for work. I have 4,400 miles on my car so far, and about 1,200 of that are miles outside of my daily commute. On three different occasions (and I bring up work driving because 2 of the 3 times this has happened, it has been on work trips) I have been forced to drive in pretty darn hard rain, and had the car tell me that the sensor (radar) for adaptive cruise had failed due to obstruction, fault... whatever. (I need to take a pic of it) No normally, I would say "Yeah no kidding. "It is raining like a *$*^#er" and re-set the cruise when the rain subsided. Nope. Can't. Cruise control is effectively broken until you do one of two things. 1). Go into assist settings on the left menu and change the cruise type to "Normal" instead of adaptive, or 2) Turn the car off and back on. I plan on complaining to Ford when I am in for service. I get that it fails temporarily, but come on. It doesn't recover? That just doesn't make sense to me. To me, proper "failure" should be an automatic switch to "Normal" setting until the system recovers. I don't even mind manually putting it back in automatic, or having it return to automatic next time you start the car. Having cruise control completely fail and be unusable without fussing with the settings just isn't right. Has anyone else experienced this, and is your behavior the same? While I am at it with this issue, I am going to take another shot at DRL activation, as well as, hopefully, some adjustments to the Automatic Headlight threshold and the rain sensitive wiper threshold.
  25. I would gladly take an all ethanol car where I live (or an ethanol hybrid). All they need to do is put a pump out at the road for the giant ethanol plant a few miles from my house. I live in farm country and the farms grow thousands of acres of it simply to feed that plant. So much so that it is driving soybean prices up, and now people are trading fields off for soybeans to take advantage of the high prices. Huge game based on the farm subsidies and the directives to use ethanol for this stuff. Plus, it doesn't usually drive up OUR food prices, it drives up the price of what we sell overseas (e.g. poor, developing nations). I need to find the articles on this. I believe it was the WSJ that had a series on the impacts of ethanol use on the market.
