  1. With respect, this is precisely what I feel Ford motor company is also thinking. Everything is brushed off like its a one time thing; never happens etc. I have been with Ford for nearly 30 years, but since 2006 I have burned myself several times on so called once off issues, that are in fact a structual quality issue. I had 3 Expeditions, all bought new, 2 of them had during the first 2 years paint pealing of the rear door; I had to pay the repainting myself as Ford deemed it not under warranty. All 3 of them had a rattle at time of delivery in the room lining that was resolved with a simple piece of foam. I had an Ford Edge with the famous notchy indicator stick; an MKX with an unresolved sound from the power steering. It does not take a lot of effort to find via Google that these are very common issues (except the MKX power steering noise) that where present for many production years. I think that Ford is failing to apply improvements in their product cycle of particular models.... They need to get better in this. For the 55kusd that I have paid for my full option Explorer I think it is ok to expect good build quality. The fact that I am still with Ford is that I still hope the next one is better. I will not give up.
  2. Our new 2015 model had similar quality control issues. I would not just put it down to the new 2016 model; I think there is a problem in the plant, or Ford is reducing quality control. The things we found just after delivery a few months ago: rear door window molding was not installed properly, Driver side windshield pillar cover (outside) was loose (dealer also replaced the right side as it was also bad installed), Passenger front door had to be realigned (big gap at the bottom) and a loud rattle in the cargo area (Broken clip in on the driver side cargo panel). I was quiet shocked that the car could leave the plant with these type of obvious defects. It was all fixed under warranty, but it is a shame that we had to bring our brand new car back for a 4 days repair a day after it was delivered to us. 3 weeks later it went again back for 1 day as the AC stopped working at the hottest part of the day (120F). It was fixed with a software reset; so far it has been working well. I still love the car, it drives great, but Ford's build quality should be better.
  3. I hope some folks from Ford read this.... I have been buying Ford, Mercury and Lincoln since 1988, every 2 years a new one. Overall, I liked each car, and remained very loyal to the brand because of that, But my experience with the 2013 MKX has been not so good; it did not deliver on its luxury brand status. I did like the inside; the finishing is superb. On the outside it looked fine, but the ride quality is comparable with an 80's sports car at its best; I guess its standard 20" polished wheels reached the engineering limits of Ford (?); every small bump and crack in the road is felt in this Lincoln; the ride is extremely unrefined to the extend that it rattles from all conceivable areas in the car; its rough; no matter what speeds you drive. It took so much frustration on my wife an myself that the last 2 years we have been looking for solutions (the dealer could not do anything), we decided to change the tires to see if it got any better (1000$).... it did not. Is that supposed to be Lincoln? I like cars that have very smooth drive characteristics, and that is why we bought Lincoln... we did not take a test drive, our mistake. Is Lincoln now a car that we have to compare with a cart? If I want exceptional handling and cart like performance I buy a Lotus. You got the balance in this car very very wrong, and deceived a customer!!!! From an engineering perspective you could also have done much better; Cars with a 20" wheels can drive very refined.. My other BMW 530i with 20" wheels, is extremely refined, delivers superb handling... and is supper smooth. Why can Lincoln not build an MKX with 20" wheels that at least feel smooth on the road? Forget the handling! What was Ford thinking? Just what are Lincolns are about? I have now bough for my wife a 2015 Explorer limited with every conceivable option available (58kusd in Dubai) and have very high expectations as this would be the deciding car if we go further with Ford or not. I love the looks, and features, The test drive was OK too. I do not want to wait for the 2016 model as my principle is never to buy a new car in its first 2 years after release.... Wish me luck, and I hope Ford/Lincoln takes note!
  4. One thing I can say is that my experience with Ford / Lincoln Dealers in my country is they will not give diagnoses a lot of time. If at all it gets difficult to solve, their response is that its acceptable. With a straight face they are able to return a less than perfect car to the customer. I do like Ford/Lincoln cars, but lately their service and customer loyalty sucks. Fortunately, as customer I have a choice where to buy the next vehicle from.
  5. Hi All, We brought our 2013 MKX 3.7 4x4 for a service to our dealer, and had a complain that the power steering assist would sometimes cut out while parking. It was resolved by bleeding the system; they claimed that they found some air. But since than, we have a very pronounced whining sound inside the cabin when steering. We went back twice now to have it fixed, they changed the pump, but the sound is still there. They there is indeed more that normal whine, but they claim is is still acceptable. The sound cannot be heard outside the car. I have driven an identical MKX provided by them, and the steering sound is totally absent. Only when very fast steering while parking, there is a very slight whine at the background; I consider that as perfectly normal. With my car unfortunately, the sound is much more pronounced as soon you steer; and as soon you have the steering in the neutral position, it goes away. Passengers also here it very clearly, the sound is more pronounced than the engine sound itself, especially at low RPM's. The whining sound volume is higher at higher RPM's, but at some point the engine sound is overwhelming it. Does anyone has any suggestion what could be the issue? Otherwise, we are very happy with the car, but its a real petty that the dealer is not able / willing to resolve this issue Thanks!
  6. I found the seats of our 2013 MKX very comfortable. In fact, the cabin comfort was one of the main reason we bought this car. My wife who is the main driver of this car, and is much lighter than me, also has positive remarks about the seats. I think you should try out the car for a long drive.
  7. After going back a 2nd time to the dealership, I was again told its normal and refused to replace the switch that I am asking for. Strangely enough, the test driver also activated the headlights twice when using the turn signal when we went out for a drive..... But now I found that a few other people have found the same problem with the Edge, Explorer and MKX, all 2013 models. Someone found a fix. It involves taking the switch apart and smoothen up the inside a bit; it worked for me, and now the turn signal works as it should be; it's as smooth as butter! There is definitely a quality problem with this switch, and the fact that I had to open up the switch myself to fix the problem on a car that has 4 years warranty left is a shame... http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/13679-turn-signal-lever-hard-to-move/ http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=388119 I have been a Ford & Lincoln Customer for more than 18 years now, but found that despite their cars got better, the after service experience has gone worse over the past few years. I feel that the exclusive dealership here in Dubai is now so reluctant to use parts under warranty that I twice now had a bad experience with the service on my current car. The first was out of round tires, when I picked up my MKX brand new. There was a very bad vibration coming into the cabin and steering wheel, and I went straight back to the dealer. I asked them why they gave me the car in this condition and was told it will go away in 1000km. They would do nothing at this stage, so I decided to drive the 1000km. No surprise, after driving 1000 horrible kilometers it was exactly the same. I brought the car back, and It stayed in the workshop for 3 days, and was advised they had balanced the tires. As soon I picked up the car, I noticed it was a bit better, but the vibs where still there. Again back to the dealer. The next day I was called that the tires are out of round and they have asked an approval to replace the tires under warranty. After 2 days, I was called again and they had an approval to change 1 tire only (!); they claimed that in the end only one tire had a problem. When I picked up the car, it was again better, but I found at higher speeds (90 - 120km/h) the car was still vibrating and feeling rough on the smooth road. I was told that was due to the 20" wheels and low profile tires. I left it with that, but never enjoyed the ride that much. After 1 year of driving I got a flat tire and went to the Pirrelli dealer who strongly advised to change all tires as they found 3 tires were out-of round. When I left the workshop with new tires, I was amazed with the smooth ride....no vibrations at all; the ride was better than ever, they way it should have been in the first place. Its very clear, Ford had gone cheap on the warranty claim, and has seriously affected my pleasure of car ownership for one year! To start with, I was very disappointed that the dealer gave me brand new car that drives rough and vibrates, and secondly, they would not fix it because Ford did not approve the claim. In they end, Now, more recently with my turn-signal problem the same thing. I blame Ford as they probably put a lot of pressure on the dealership to reduce part usage under warranty. Still, the dealer could have done much better too. I am happy that Ford does well now financially, but that should not be on the expense of the customer; that they go cheap on warranty claims is not acceptable. One customer lost!
  8. Its not the firm feel that is the problem. if you move the stalk until the point it it feels good (the signal blinks than only 3 times), but if you want the signal continuous on, you have to push very firmly, trough the point where it initially stops, and than you get a "click", and that the signals continuously blinks. And with firmly I mean, pushing so hard that you loose control of the stalk in forward-backward directly...so flashing the light in progress, I have tried other 2013 models, exactly the same, Can any one tell if it is possible the code/program the signals in such way that when moving the stalk that the signals immediately stay in continues mode, instead of just signaling 3X? I would loose the feature of 3X signalling for the lane changes, but at least we do not have to struggle with the stalk all the time.
  9. Thanks for the replies. I have tried with another Lincoln of the same year as well, and the same issue. I have Google'd it, and found that some other people also had complains, but it appeared that it is the design, so nothing can be done.I do understand there are differences per car, but the MKX stalk is unusually heavy, Especially from a luxury car I expected a bit more refinement on that part. I hope in future there is some kind of fix coming, but for now I guess we need to live with it....
  10. Hi All, I am new here, and a very happy owner of our 2013 Lincoln MKX. We love the car overall, but we have a concern regarding the indicator stalk. It is difficult to lock the indicator (left or right) so the indicator stays on. The stalk is moving very heavy into the lock position; you have to push up or down (to engage the indicator lights) quiet hard, and then once there "click"; then the indicator light stays on. To get the stalk through the "click" goes really difficult. It is so difficult that we regularly flash the headlights at the same time. We went back to the dealer, who told us they all do this and they are not aware of any fix. Live with it...... Can someone confirm having the same issue, and if this is normal with this car?
