  1. Actually I was only trying to show the civility of those on the other Ford Edge forum as compared to here. I came looking for help, but instead I am berated for even asking a question. When the problem was determined I came back to report and share with others, but instead I am called a condescending prick.
  2. The reason for my post was to see if anyone had experienced this type of leak on their Ford Edge. I clearly only removed items that are permitted to be serviced by the owner. My investigation of the leak in no way jeopardized my warranty and helped the service department identify the problem quickly. In addition, I have come back to inform others who may have the same problem and want to know more. These are the responses I received from a Ford Edge Facebook page when I posted the same details this morning: Outstanding work. great analysis and pictures I personally learned a lot from your experiences and write up. Thanks. Hydraulic mount failed. Do not see that too often. BRAVO!!!!!!! Hydraulic mounts are not a surprise, but for them to fail in this manner, definitely! Perhaps Gen 1 & 1.5 do not have hydraulic trans mounts? Not even sure the motor mounts/control arm bushings are hydraulic. I know they are on the SHO, maybe the remainder of the Taurus line also.
  3. Actually the items I removed, the air cleaner, battery and front left tire are all items approved by Ford for removal by the owner. The removal of these item will not void your warranty and are fully described in the owner’s manual.
  4. Follow-up To The Fluid Leak On My 2017 Ford Edge Sport The dealer I decided to go to was 30 miles away from my home and I wanted to make sure I could drive that distance without damaging anything. My investigation showed there was no ATF leaking from the transmission and the ATF level in the transmission was full. I was convinced the fluid was emanating from above the transmission case so I removed the air cleaner, battery and battery tray for a better look. See photo below. I even used a flexible bore scope to get a better look in tight spaces. All signs pointed to the transmission mount area, but I could not find anything definitive. When I dropped my Edge off at the dealership service department last Wednesday the staff was very impressed with my investigation and assigned the work order to their master mechanic. He was able to confirm that the transmission mount incorporates a hydraulic dampener that had failed and was leaking hydraulic fluid. This was a surprise to everyone. Before I took my Edge in I went through the Ford factory repair manual and I could find no mention that the transmission mount incorporated a hydraulic dampener. It will take 7 to 10 days for a new transmission mount to arrive. In the meantime the service department staff said I could drive my Edge with out damaging anything. BTW, back in the 60’s and 70’s I never hesitated to take my cars and motorcycles apart for repairs or to improve performance. I am guessing these days many are limiting their capabilities to the apps available on their smart phones.
  5. I sent the local servicing dealer the photos I posted here. Their service manager and technician looked at the photos and though it might be power steering fluid. Only problem is my Edge has electric steering and does not use fluid. This was a major fail on their part and does not inspire confidence. If possible, I always try to diagnose the problem before I go to the dealer for service.
  6. My 2017 Ford Edge Sport is leaking what looks like ATF fluid by the front wheel on the driver’s side. I noticed a few drops on the garage floor when I returned home the other day. NOTE: My car only has 1,200 miles on it. Yesterday I pulled the front drivers side wheel and observed the following. Today I decided to remove the air filter box to see if I could get a better view of the top of the transmission where I believe the red fluid may be coming from. I also wanted to check the transmission fluid level. I found evidence of the red fluid as indicated in the photos below. I still could not locate a source. Looks like I need to pull the battery next since I see the red fluid under the battery. I will need the repair manual to figure out how to do that. Hopefully I will have the Edge repair manual I ordered today by tomorrow. NOTE: The transmission ATF level was fine. Does anyone have any idea where this fluid might be coming from?
