I think the BS spells the death knoll for the AWD Escape. I think youll see the Escapes #1 sellers will be the hybrids, plug ins an low end units...

I think you are down playing how big a factor price is, especially in this segment. Here is a list of the incentives for its current competition:

compass - up to $4250 depending on trim
cherokee - up to $3750 depending on trim
Renegade - up to $3500 depending on trim
Crosstrek - no incentives but the top of the line model starts at $27k so it has a substantially lower price.

There is a substantial price difference between the going rate for the competition and the msrp of the sport. IMO the emotional purchases will go away with the early adopters and the sport will be just another crossover in a year. It will need to be more competitive on price.

Doug demuro’s review also said something similar about the 2.0 which kind of surprised me. I wonder if these guys are used to driving so many different types of cars that it gets hard to judge performance relative to the segment? 2.0 has been pretty quick for me, but I coming from a 4 cyl fusion. I guess if your driving super cars all the time it might be hard to appreciate the 2.0.

IMO this is the best looking 2021 F150 I have seen so far. Hopefully it’s priced competitively with the Trail Boss and Rebel.  I’ve been waiting for them to put this package out since Chevy came out with the Trail Boss.  It’s too bad it does not appear to be offered with the new power boost engine set up, that would’ve been a pretty sweet set up.  I assume it will be available across all trim lines, though it wasn’t very clear about that.

It depends on the audience. I think those that come from a 4x4 background will see them as cool and those that are coming from other crossovers or cars will see them as spares. Either way, options are good, I just wish there were more of them. Ford continues to struggle in the wheel department IMO on most of its vehicles.

Lol, I can’t believe they put that steering wheel in this. It’s terribly cheap. And it’s the place the driver touches the most!

The other cheapness of the interior doesn’t surprise me; I’ve been in the escape.

Looks like a great product all and all though!

The are the optional wheel that you have to pay more for. They aren’t actually steel either. Surprisingly many people like them. I think it looks like you have four spare tires on.

I think it looks pretty good. I’m not sure why they were complaining about the bed size in the article, it looks to be proportional with the rest of the body. Any longer and it would look stupid. My only concern is that it looks like there is going to be some trim on the back of the cab. Hopefully that’s just for the window and not some trim piece like the avalanche had.

Does this bed offer some surprises? It obviously doesn’t have the trunk in the bed like the ridgeline, but notice the cutout towards the tailgate. Could the maverick also get the “pro power onboard” generator like the f150? That sure does look like a similar cut out to the f150. Even if it’s not the generator, a storage solution there would be cool.

What are your impressions of its size? From just reading the dimensions, I’ve always thought it should have been bigger (escape size). I think the extra storage space would have been good. I know there will be plenty of head room, but I’ve never had that be a problem in any vehicle. I took some screen grabs from dougs review and it looked pretty tiny with him in it and next to it. I think he’s 6’3”.

A few thoughts, after reading and watching the reviews. Badlands interior, looks good for the most part but steering wheel needs to be leather/quality wrap  so it doesn't feel  cheap. I've never understood cheapening out on the steering wheel when it's something you touch the whole time you are in the car. Does it save a dollar to make it feel like a Playskool steering wheel? Not worth it IMO.

I think for most drivers the 1.5 will be fine. Let's be honest, with this and even with the real Bronco, most of them will not be hitting off road. The 2.0 is good engine and should move this with authority.

I think they hit the design out of the park. I really like the raised roof.I think Doug summarized this nicely, in regards to so many generic designs in this segment (Escape included). This will stand out and perform. This vehicle would of been great for me in my late 20's/early 30's. I am think with all of my gear and my son it may be a too small. I am most likely going go for a new Bronco anyway.

I look forward for some off road reviews with the Compass and Cherokee.

Almost all pickups usually have a cutout like that. There's usually a tie down hook in there somewhere.

There were actually many reviews that said the 1.5 had a hard time with the trail. Seems to be issues with power or driver experience, or both, but the badlands did not have any issues.

It’s the smart thing to do. It’s probably the biggest complaint you hear about the sport. Unless it’s extremely expensive to put the 2.0 in other trims (which I doubt) ford is just throwing money away by not offering it.
