3 cylinder is probably cheaper to produce vs. 4 (one less cylinder wall = less metal = lower costs) but not the main reason. Ford's relatively large sales footprint in Europe (compare to Honda or Toyota) probably influenced its powertrain decision a lot more than a simple cost decision. The 3 cylinder engines have lower CO2 output and thus have lower annual tax burden in countries that have carbon tax. It's definitely a selling point in Europe.

Yeah. 2.0 and 2.3 would have been cool as the engine options for the bronco sport too.

1.5 in the escape is 181hp/170 tq. The 2.5 in the rav4 is 203hp/184. The 1.5 in the crv is 190hp/212. it’s close to the other base engines but it’s not better. My concern with the 1.5 in the escape is that I would always be in boost so my gas mileage would suffer. The 2.0 is a nice addition though. It’s a giant power bump. I believe you can also get the 2.0 on the SEL trim.

The drive trains are virtually the same, rear torque vectoring is achieved on Badlands by applying right or left side brakes.
The Escape comes from European Kuga, Bronco Sport is an American development and reminds us of the  Original Escape.

Some kind of suspect that originally, BS was going to be new Escape and Escape would revert to Euro Kuga name.

The extended wheelbase is called MAX and the short wheelbase is regular. That would be a ton of cargo room if it was the MAX with only 5 seats though.

But Escape was also an established model.

Ford  has been wanting to pursue sales of “rugged” utilities for a few years now, I’m just surprised that there isn’t a more rugged Explorer sized utility, yeah I know they’re doing an interesting Explorer variant....

What tangible success have either of those entities produced? They’re not even delivering profits at the moment.

I know lots of Tesla owners. After the novelty of using the Level 3 public charger a few times, very few of them actually go out of his or her way to use it. Most of them just plug in at night because it's way more convinent. You shouldn't buy an EV unless you also plan to install a 220V outlet in your garage.

Tesla's supercharger network is a selling point for non-EV owners to overcome range anxiety but it's not a real significant benefit once you adopt to EV lifestyle. Eventually, there will be A LOT more CCS charging stations than Tesla so what is now a selling point may become a liability later when every brand can charge at common charging stations but Tesla owners are restricted to the properitory network.

Ford lowered the Mach E MSRP because they are gearing up for a fight with VW ID.4. As part of Dieselgate settlement with EPA, VW agreed to build its own nationwide charging network (Electrify America), which ironically gave VW an advantage because it allows VW to offer 3 years of free charging to ID.4 owners. Ford can't match that so it is lowering the MSRP instead.

BTW, Electrify America is part of Ford Pass too... but Mach E can't charge for free on it like ID.4.

Honestly, a good hybrid or PHEV is going to reach a lot more buyers,
take concern away for fuel costs and most buyers are happy with
    a much less costly vehicle.

My concern with BEVs is that they are being pitched at premium buyers
even though Ford has said in the recent past that the cost of building BEVs
is now approaching the costs of building a comparable ICE vehicle.
They're trying to cash in on BEVs, not replace ICEs so there's that.

Resale values are low on BEV, except for Teslas. iseecars reports that BEV depreciate by 52% in their first 3 years.

The only picture where I thought that the belt line was a bit high was this one, but I think that’s due to the guy being short. I think it looks about right in all the other pics I’ve seen.

Maybe getting rid of that uptick behind the door might help a bit. Here is a render without it. I think both ways look good.

packages is $995. Seems like a no brainer if you like the stx. You will pay $999 just for the wheels on ford parts. On top of those you get the 8” touchscreen, sync 3, dual zone climate control, interior accents and privacy glass. It’s a nice look.

    Kia Soul - 98k
    Buick Encore - 102k
    Nissan Kicks - 58k
    Jeep Renegade - 77k
    Chevrolet Trax - 117k

Is it worth it for ford to bring the puma here? Above are the sales figures for what I would assume would be its main competitors from 2019. Looks to be about 70-80k units on average. Is that enough for them to make a profit?

if you go up in size a bit, things get a little better.

    jeep compass - 144k
    hyundai Tucson - 138k
    subaru cross trek - 131k

these are smaller than compacts like escape, rav4 and crv, but larger than the other subcompacts. The bronco sport will also be similar in size to these. I would think this is the size range you’d want to be in.

Yeah, I’d like to see the bronco sport grow about 6”. Then they could replace the Ecosport with a vehicle that’s similar to the bronco sport but smaller, and then the puma for those who like a sportier style.
