Two months of downtime? Well, if 2021 was the worst year ever for Mustang sales, 2022 will be even worse! I appreciate Covid and chip shortages mean have screwed things up, but I don't ever recall a time when a plant was down for so long (other than union strikes). ☹️

Certainly we have seen two different prototypes. The first one spotted at Ford's test track.......this one appeared to be an Ecoboost, judging by the wheels and brakes. But this one definitely seemed to a using production ready (new) headlamps. The second one, spotted on the street appears to be a GT judging by the wheels and brakes (and video of it definitely sounded like a V8). However, this one is still using S550 headlamps.....one member of Mustang7G zoomed in and you can see it still has the round projector of the existing S550. So, was the second prototype rushed out to divert attention away from the test track? Or is it a more cobbled together prototype? I'd have thought if they're building full S650 prototypes (rather than S550 based mules) I'd expect them to all be built to the same "production intent" purposes.

Wow......and its down this week, too. This week is due to the chip shortage. 3 weeks though? That's got to be more that just a chip shortage!

So, as far as you're aware it's still a '23MY? I've been lead to believe (but happy for someone that really knows the facts to contradict this!) that you cannot build a '22MY car in the '23 calendar year. So, if S650 really is a March 2023 start of production (that came from industry analysts Auto Forecast Solutions......so I'd like to think they have good info) then the current '22MY would have to stop production at the end of the 2022 calendar year. That would leave a 2 to 3 month gap before S650 production starts......and that seems unlikely, unless Ford want to stockpile chips for S650 production ramp-up. As for the S650 mules on the streets, are you referring to the S550-bodied one that was spotted almost a year ago in Feb 2021? I'd certainly class that as a mule testing drivetrain components.........but I'm really wanting to see the full-blown S650 production intent prototypes, which would have much more camo. As ever, your input is always very much appreciated.

Certainly Camaro's demise the same time as the next-gen Mustang launches hadn't passed my by! That being said, the death of pony cars as we know them isn't something I'll celebrate, even if they're from GM or Dodge ?

There's complete radio silence regarding S650. I can only assume Ford's NDAs are rock solid and people are not prepared to lose their jobs over leaking information. That's perfectly understandable, even if its frustrating as a Mustang fan, as I've never known it so difficult to find information on a forthcoming generation. Really, all we have are a couple of job profiles on Linkedin detailing the S650 name and AutoForecastSolutions with their predicted start of production info......which first had S650 going into production in 2021! Now it's March 2023. Clearly Covid has had a huge impact on the industry. But this can't be the only reason for S650 delays.

The latest info which was shared by Autoline Daily (quoting Auto Forecast Solutions) was that S650 starts production in March of 2023. Ford Authority added this would make it a '24MY. I thought S650 would launch in Jan of 2023, so it's only delayed by a few months, not a year, if I'm understanding correctly. The S550 '22MY started production on the 3rd of this month, so if it were to get a full 12 month run, the '22MY would end in December 2022. Would Ford need 2 to 3 months to retool for S650 launching in March 2023? The alternative would be that the '22MY only runs until September, then an even shorter '23MY could, in theory, run from September 2022 to February 2023, leaving a few weeks to retool for S650. But if anyone knows more, please let us know!

I would love Ford to tease S650 for us..........but I doubt it. Heck, I just want to see a camo'd prototype!!!

Oh, I know. I watched the UNIFOR contract video and heard the words coming out of his mouth Don't get me wrong, I'm not against a 6.8 in a high-end Mustang...............but, other than more torque, I'm wondering what the gains are over the Coyote. N/A power would likely be similar, but I'd expect a chunk more torque than the Coyote's 420 lb/ft (or 410 as it will be for '22MY). Of course, I guess they could go for forced induction. As for S650 being cancelled, yep I'm aware of that. But the "leaked" Linkedin documents have still called the '23MY S650. Do you think internally Ford would still call it S550?

So my question would be, what will power the GT500 if the 5.2 is gone? I don't buy the 6.8 going into S650......so a supercharged 5.0 Coyote? Or could that 5.0 + hybrid be the top engine? Forgive the pun, but I hope the 5.0 hybrid isn't a niche engine, especially for those of us in Europe, as that'll be the only way we'll be able to buy a V8 from Ford from 2025.

I wonder if the 5.0 hybrid will be a "regular" GT (GT+) trim level. Rumors are that the 5.2 Predator will continue for the S650 Shelby variant. But with the Romeo niche line closing, can Predator be build elsewhere, or with the Coyote?

Tri-bars up front and VERY Mach-E inspired tail lamps..........is Ford going to make this the Mustang sedan we've heard so much about? Personally, I sincerely hope not. The proportions of this make me assume it's FWD with a transverse engine (or perhaps even a BEV as mentioned above). I really REALLY wanted a Mustang sedan to be S650 based......RWD with the option of a V8. I hope I'm wrong, but I've got a bad feeling about this!

Personally, despite Flat Rocks issues, I'd have thought it makes sense to build S650 there, then build it's replacement elsewhere, as that's likely to be a full EV circa 2028-2030. I just hope wherever its built doesn't impact on it arriving either late 2022 or early 2023

Hey fuzzy......you can't leave us on a cliff edge like that lol !! So, I assume the start of production won't be any earlier that December 2022..........so early 2023? Spring? Summer? I appreciate you probably can't be specific, but any insight would be appreciated for those of us hunting for any scraps of information

I really hope it stays there for the duration of S650 (2028-2030??). That would, to me, make most sense, especially if S650 is "just" a heavy refresh of S550 as is being reported. But, more importantly, I hope it stays there for those that work there, including a friend of mine

The Stealth Package looks very similar to the previous Black Accent Package, although the latter was also available on the GT. The California Special looks good to me, although I've always liked that one. They are repurposing the Bullitt wheels, albeit in grey rather than black, and the Bullitt grille though........so I think Ford are using up supplies before S650 roles in for the '23MY
