Hi Emilner. Sorry to hear about your issues. First...yes, Black Label perks include a 4 year/50,000 premium maintenance plan. If you are at ~40,000 miles and the vehicle is not yet 4 years old, and you have only had oil changes performed when the IOLM tells you to, you should have plenty of oil changes left under the premium maintenance plan.  How many oil changes have you had performed?

Let your Dealership know your vehicle is a Black Label edition (perhaps the person you spoke to was not fully aware of that) and a premium maintenance plan. If you have any issues with getting this straightened out, call your Black Label Lincoln Concierge.

Concerning what the Dealership Service Department told you about the transmission: I would assume that "...the transmission needs to be rebuilt and parts are on backorder..." means exactly that.

The transmission has a defect and will need to be rebuilt (or possible replaced). And the parts are not currently available, probably due to the widespread pandemic induced commodity/parts shortages. So they are "backordered", meaning they are on order, but not in stock anywhere, so the Dealership will get them as soon as they are available.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Thanks for the reply.  We were out of town so I never even checked on the oil status since it kind of hit me by surprise.  I just checked and the Lincoln app has the truck at 43%.  What's odd (or probably not) is the dealer has never said we were due for a change, I always made a call when the monitor popped up and said schedule a change.  Now they say I am due and the truck is at 43% and it isn't covered.  I am not sure how many we have done- I will have to ask the dealer for a printout but I would say the average is in the 6-8000 mile range.

I am waiting to hear back from the tech for the tranny since I would like to know their definition of rebuilt as in does it need a few new parts or all new belts/clutches/full rebuild etc.

  2. We purchased our 2019 BL new back in 2019.  The truck is approaching 40k miles and still almost a year and 10k miles to go on the factory warranty/service.  We went in for a transmission issue to our dealer, Empire Lincoln in Huntington NY roughly a week ago.  After an hour+ highway drive when pressing the gas to pass the truck would go to downshift and come out of gear and rev up followed by "shift unavailable", or something like that (it flashes too fast) followed by a wrench icon.  The transmission would then slam into gear and operate somewhat normally with occasional low gear slamming after we leave the highway.  The next day it would be fine.  It happened twice so far.  The dealer said the transmission needs to be rebuilt and parts are on backorder- that is the message I received yesterday and I am calling in to find out what that means.

The second issue is they said I am due for an oil change.  We have only had oil changes done when the truck says oil life is getting low.  The dealer said we used up our allotment of free changes and now they will be roughly $100- I was under the impression all servicing was complimentary for the first 4 years/ 50k.  If the truck says it needs servicing shouldn't that be included??  Any insight?

  3. It looks as though the Escalade came in second or third place everywhere except performance.  Yet performance, even with one of the worst feeling engines in history, took it from 2/3 place to first.  Shows time and time again how the rags are so out of touch with what people want- I want luxury, not canyon carving....

  4. Car and driver did a test, a few truck reviewers etc.  From C&D:   "Compared with premium fuel, regular fuel sapped the F-150's urgency both leaving the line and in the meat of the tach sweep.  The high-octane gas also helped when soft-pedaling the accelerator, elevating 75-mph fuel economy from 17.0 to 17.6 mpg. That won't make a financial case for running 93 octane, but then you didn't buy the expensive engine as a rational choice."

5 Star tuning says there is a 40hp dyno measured difference although C&D says it's 20hp.

Stop implying that people who use 87 are cheaping out.  Not everybody notices or cares about the power difference.

It's a perfectly rational statement.  We are all here giving opinions asking questions and giving answers.  I wouldn't get so offended (it seems to be par for the course nowadays).  Saving a few dollars when filling up a $100,000 truck makes zero sense to me- especially when there is a noticeable difference.  And yes, even the professionals said they noticed a difference when driven normally.

  6. Here we go again, and again, and again.  If you want the most power and drivability out of the truck use 91/93.  There is a fairly large difference in power between 87 and 93 octane- and not just peak power but over the whole power band.  I think car and driver did a test comparing our engine (in a raptor) with both fuels and they clocked a 1 second difference in most acceleration runs which is pretty large.  Once you spend $100,000 on a truck don't skimp on the last 5 bucks...

Here are a few more pics I took of the interior. I never thought I'd like roast (our original order was black) but when we saw it in person, we were surprised how good it looked.

Since this is the family daily driver, we won't have any performance mods anytime soon.

Thanks for the pics.  I love the color.  But as a former upholsterer I'm taken back by the bunching in the corners and seams.  The sign of good upholstery is clean neat flush panels...

Bought it last night, paperwork done after dark and we raced home to partially beat a snowstorm.

So in our one drive so far, feels good solid and stable in highway and snowy condition. The adaptive cruise control is way better than our old car.

Sync4 is great. Huge screen we used for Waze with the wireless Apple car play. Bigger difference from a 21 than what I expected. No issues getting everything up and running in a few minutes. I'll need a week to get the seats adjusted perfectly and really go through all of the features.

I liked the reserve wheels in person better than the pictures. It has a console which we wasn't in our original order, so I'll need to figure out how to childproof it.

    20220312_131100.jpg

Truck looks great.  With Sync 4 can you now do FM and XM presets together?  And do you have to hit a button to get to the next row of presets?  My single biggest gripe about the truck is sync 3.3.  That and hitting the volume button blanks out the whole screen for 5 or 6 seconds and the difficulty of turning the heated steering wheel on and off.

  9. Personally I think the Nav interior is far more elegant than the Escalade or GW- I'm really happy with the 2018-2021 and now the 22 redesign.  As far as the next major makeover- that will probably happen in the 2026 range.  But who knows what will happen by then- perhaps electrification will reach the full size SUVs and totally change the schedule...

Ok guys - NOBODY here said that you shouldn’t buy premium IF that’s what you want to do.  EVERYONE acknowledged you get more power,  So stop making stuff up that wasn’t said,

The gains are only noticeable depending on how you drive.  If you do WOT runs you’ll probably feel it.  If you drive like a granny you won’t.  It totally depends on how you drive.

You guys are the ones trying to tell everyone that they should buy premium.  What everyone else said is very very clear:

    There are real performance gains

    Premium is more expensive

You may or may not notice the difference

If you don’t notice the difference or you don’t care then you can save money by using 87

If you notice the difference and/or don’t mind spending more then buy premium.

    Period end of discussion.

You missed the part where Ford/Lincoln recommends premium.

Because some of us don’t like throwing money away even if it’s just a few dollars.  I tried it on my F150 and could not tell the difference, so for me to buy premium would literally be throwing money away for no reason.

I always love the argument "I couldn't tell the difference so you shouldn't waste your money".  It's like "I can't tell the difference between first growth Bordeaux and 2 buck chuck, so you should buy the cheapest wine you can"

Do you have a Navigator or Raptor?

Nope not at all.  What I’m saying is the gain in performance is real but something that most drivers won’t notice based on how they drive.  It provides better performance but it is not “better” for the engine than 87 in any other aspect other than the specific cases mentioned in the manual - extreme hot weather or heavy towing.

I never said it wasn’t worth it IF the difference matters to you.  If you like the added power or need to use it due to hot weather or towing then go for it.

What I objected to is saying that everybody should always use premium because it’s “better”.  If I’m not towing or in extreme hot weather and I either don’t care or can’t feel the extra power then there is no reason to waste money on premium.

But you, and all the others discussing this skip over the tremendous irony of spending $100k on a truck (an extra $20-30k over the equivalent espy) to gain luxury and performance to then balk at spending $3 to get that performance you paid for.  If you are, let's face it, overspending on a truck (we all did, none of these are worth $100k, that's why they are mega profit machines) then a 3 dollar decision doesn't enter your everyday life.  If it does, you are way over stretched.

As stated above, why spend money for something you will never use or notice? Just because you can afford it doesn't mean you should throw it away.

And sometimes, saving $3 on a tank of gas is indicative of habits which allow one to purchase a $100k vehicle.

Your response is perfect.  You don't even get the irony of spending tens of thousands of extra dollars for luxury but you balk at 3 bucks that is BETTER for the vehicle.  And yes an average person can notice it- the few places that have done comparisons have explicitly said it becomes quite noticeable across the whole rev range even at part throttle (which make s a lot of sense with a turbo engine).  If saving 3 bucks on a tank of gas in a Navigator will in some way improve your life you have made terrible decisions up to this point...

  14. We had 5 Escalades before our 2019 BL Nav L.  This truck is better in almost every single way compared to the other trucks.  We love the powertrain, luxury, ride quality etc.  The only 2 gripes is the infotainment system- it's a bit behind the competition (I'm being kind) and the memory function never seems to get the drivers mirror and steering wheel right (we brought it in and they tried reprogramming it but it didn't work).  We had the engine recall done but after almost 3 years and 30k miles it's been a solid truck.  We are planning on buying out the truck at the end of the lease and keeping it.  I wouldn't hesitate for a second to get one.

Wow, I thought the air suspension was an add on to the Mrc, i.e. they come standard with mrc but the air suspension is opt.  That's how it is on the build and price.   I prefer the lincoln to the gms without air, haven't been able to get in one with it though.

My dad wants an Escalade.  Not gonna convince him to go elsewhere, he won't listen.  Makes sense, most people are like that.  Everyone says how nice they are and they are hot, but since the new escalades been out, it hasn't won not 1 comparison test.  Hell, motortrend jus put it up against the grand wagoneer, and it lost again.  If it didn't have the screen and 36 spkr audio, would it even be competitive?

It's crap frankly.  I'm a lifer GM guy, 7 Vettes, 5 Escalades in addition to Denalis and numerous other GM vehicles.  It hurt to trade my E on my Nav but this truck is better in every way.  When I read the GM forums they are almost universally hating on the truck.  Massive issues from blown engines all over the place to that dash dying repeatedly to you name it.  I feel like Cadillac as been a ship at sail without a competent captain for some time now.  They get something right and then bomb out somewhere else.

I hope they've added a button in the cargo area to close the power tailgate.

My '07 and '16 Navi's both had a button.  It was delightful.

My '20 Black Label only has the "do the hokey-pokey" kick under-the-bumper thing if you want to close the tailgate while you're standing next to it.  While this is a cool alternative, it only seems to work if the key is within 3' of the tailgate.  If I walk away while my kid is fetching his soccer stuff, the gate refuses to close no matter how he kicks his feet.  I imagine Ford saved $4 by de-contenting the button, but the loss in real world functionality has been disappointing.

I'm pleased I can't tell differentiate the '22 from my '20.  Thank you Lincoln!

There is a button on the tailgate as shown in the above diagram to close it.

  17. Car and Driver did a test with our engine and they saw a noticeable difference.  Frankly, it is one of those things where we just ask over and over- why did you spend $100k on a truck and then worry about 5 bucks in gas.  Here is some of what they said:

Power at the wheels dropped from 380 to 360 horsepower with the change from 93 to 87 octane. That difference seemed to grow, and we could even feel it from the driver's seat at the test track. Compared with premium fuel, regular feed sapped the F-150's urgency both leaving the line and in the meat of the tach sweep. The rush to 60 mph softened to a still-blistering 5.9 seconds (from 5.3), and the quarter-mile stretched from 14.0 to 14.5 seconds, with trap speed falling 4 mph. Tapped into the Ford's CAN bus, we recorded a peak boost pressure roughly 1.9 psi lower during acceleration runs on regular gas, down more than 10 percent compared with the 18.1-psi peak on premium. The high-octane gas also helped when soft-pedaling the accelerator, elevating 75-mph fuel economy from 17.0 to 17.6 mpg. That won't make a financial case for running 93 octane, but then you didn't buy the expensive engine as a rational choice. You can think of this EcoBoost engine's more aggressive high-octane tune as a sort-of sport mode that can be switched on or off with every fill of its 36.0-gallon tank.

I think it reflects quite poorly on a luxury brand to have a 3 year old vehicle's infotainment system stuck on an old software version, in their flagship vehicle no less. From what I recall from when I had an Expedition, there was a similar issue where the Fusion had the latest and greatest and kept receiving updates while the Expedition was stuck on an old build and was never updated.

I understand that today the differences are not significant, but they may become significant in a few years and there's no reason they should be designing the Sync system in such a way that it isn't backwards compatible with older hardware.

Lincoln/Ford needs to get its act together.

I totally agree.  It also doesn't help that they limited it to some functionality that was surpassed over 10 years ago with other companies.  It's really my only gripe with the truck but it's a big gripe.

Hi Emilner. Are you sure your 2019 Navigator only has SYNC 3.0?

If yes, not sure if you are aware...If you currently have SYNC 3.0, you can not factory upgrade to SYNC 3.3/3.4.

There are third party/aftermarket websites that will offer a procedure to upgrade to SYNC 3.4. However, I recommend against using them, at least while your vehicle is still within the 4 year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Bumper to Bumper Warranty. Using an aftermarket upgrade like they offer may/will result in denied warranty claims for anything SYNC/infotainment/audio/climate control/electronics related, since essentially all those systems (and more) are tied into SYNC.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Yes, it certainly has 3.0.  I wasn't planning on doing anything aftermarket, I was just hoping a factory update could bring my $100k truck into the 21st century lol...
