  1. WOW, talk about sticker shock.  I'm going to be really glad I bought the Maintenance Contract!!!  Bought 3 gallons today to change the oil in the challenger and two generators.  Walked out of the auto parts store, $150 lighter.  When I was evaluating maintenance contract, I asked one local shop the cost to change oil and filters, the price I was quoted equaled the cost of the maintenance contract.  That sold it for me... now given raw oil costs, me thinks I'm going to be happy.   Not one to ever trust a shop to do even simple oil changes, but we're planning to be traveling a LOT, and I'm not dragging oil changing equipment with me around the country.

I "if you`re a manager you can manage in any department". We have process engineer`s with associates degrees in marketing from on line universities.  As for any background or experience in actual automotive manufacturing that isn`t even asked in the interview process. Then most customers have no idea they are paying not only for the product but they are the unpaid R&D team.

Talked to an engineering supervisor, who is retiring in October.  She was moved to a GSR purchasing position, having zero experience in purchasing, and leaving in October.

Systems engineer, who was brought into Ford because of his extensive mfg experience, was moved out of engineering, to a plant to monitor the final test at the end of a transmission line... on midnight shift.

I'm BEGGING for a package, because I'm leaving soon.  Because I joined after pensions, it's essentially a quit for me.

  3. Friend that had a neighbor that struggled with TPMS.  Dealer had the truck and trailer trying to diagnose it.  Dealer replaced the module, and then finally got Ford involved.  They opened up the trailer tires and found an issue with how the TPMS units were installed on the trailer wheels.  I also had a co-worker that couldn't get TPMS working on his new car wheels, and a Ford corporate mechanic had something that he said "activated" the wheel TPMS.  These are just a couple of things I heard, and can't provide any more detail.

I had my trailer TPMS installed, drove thirty miles home, and then went through setup, and it immediately latched on to each tire.

  4. Just be happy you're not salary... 8,000 layoffs is not an insignificant number.  Work load is getting unworkable.  Company wants to be more like Tesla in staffing, but they only make 4 different vehicles, with very limited complexity.  Meanwhile complexity is soaring, quality is getting worse, and of course it's all engineering's fault.

Sorry to dredge up an old topic, but after taking my truck around town and on a couple of multi-hour highway trips, I’ve got a question.

When the system is engaged and starts slowing me down, can I tell if it’s braking or just letting up on the throttle?  I can tell when it’s braking for a more dramatic slowdown, and I presume the brake lights are illuminating.  I would hate to get rear-ended because someone following (too closely) didn’t notice my slowing without the brake lights coming on.

BTW, I really LOVE the Adaptive Cruise!

If the system is braking, it does activate brake lights, just as if you had braked.

dlghtjr90, there are graphics on the screen for SD too.  Looks a little different than Honda's but it is there.

IIRC drag goes up exponentially with speed.

close, but it's velocity to the 3rd power.  The math can get pretty complicated, because you start running into other issues at higher speed with turbulent flow, changes in vehicle height, etc.  Years ago, I caught all kinds of heck in a dodge charger forum, because I said a dodge charger would need approximately 700 hp to get to 200 mph.  I nailed it, hellcat at 707 hp will get to 201 mph.

  7. I hadn't experienced, but was talking to a 2021 owner, and he jinxed me.

It's not very repeatable, but seems to be keyed to engine brake on, and according to TSB when tow/haul is activated.  I've experienced it twice, once with trailer, once without.  Literally rolling up to a traffic light with every light pressure on brake pedal.  It's a pretty sharp "jerk" that makes you think, what did I just hit!

I'm going to have them fix it when I take the truck in for the two recalls that are activated.

Ford starts production with Dealer stock orders first and doesn't usually even start scheduling retail orders until the "Okay to Buy" status is reached. They do that to make sure that the required quality standard is consistent when they start retail order production. Those early build "stock" orders may get held at the plant for weeks or months for repairs to defects that are discovered and arrive at dealerships after retail orders. In addition, stock orders don't qualify for price protection. As such, it's not a good policy for a Dealer to submit retail orders as stock orders.

You may remember, it was a retail  order, they changed my retail order to stock.  On a quiet year, achieving ok to buy should have been  NON EVENT

I'm not in any terms condoning the Dealer's action in selling the vehicle to another customer. They knew what they were doing or simply incompetent in managing their business.

I've wondered if this was the reason the dealer shifted my order from retail to stock, hoping to steal my early order for someone the GM knows.  Their stated excuse was that Ford was filling stock orders first.

@ice-capades - Bringing this back from earlier in the thread...

Well, I went to have a look at my F450 that arrived last week. It has 73mi on the ODO.

Does the mileage make sense?  Is the dealer 73 miles from the depot?

While I would be pissed too, in the grand scheme of things, it won't make a difference two months from now.

I consider Automatics to be female and M/T to male. However, I was referring to the infotainment center which is neutral until it self identifies.

My wife would disagree with that statement with her M/T Challenger :)

If you don't treat her right, she will resist, buck, and even stall.

They keep blaming the trailer, but I never had this issue until I got the new truck.  Anyone else have this issue when using the 7 pin on their 2022 superduty, or know of a fix?

I found the 7 pin being very stiff and dielectric grease helped it fully engage.

Curious if anyone has noticed an impact to the quality of your new truck ? Has the impact of pressure on 3rd party vendors rushing to supply parts/products for Ford along with Ford attempting to push units out with supply chain and labor issues caused a noticeable degradation of quality? This is my fear yet all the while I am with the mob bitching because I want my truck.

I don’t have my truck but I have personally witness blatantly obvious issues with very simple things such as seat covers, incomplete paint at Jambs etc.

What happened to quality is Job 1 or is it still as I understand with any mass production that things slip through?

Trucks are painted by robot, so it's not a manpower issue.

Suppliers don't want things like recall on their parts.  If they are responsible, Ford will go after them for reimbursement.

While we expect perfect trucks, OEMs are getting pretty durn close to achieving that.  Used to be in the 70's there would several warranty issues on every single vehicle.  Then they started measuring warranty in defects per 1,000 vehicles, and OEMS have gone from several hundred issues per thousand down to a hundred or so per thousand.  With the content being being even more complex than ever, they will continue to have some issues.  OEM's monitor warranty issues closely.  They are getting so low, it is now possible to pick out regional issues, that could never be identified before..
