Several thousand miles towing 5th wheel
road turtle replied to road turtle's topic in F-Series SuperDuty Forum
Canada??? I used to make a monthly trip across the border. Vehicle I would take got a thorough look over for any loose rounds or even loose brass and anything that might resemble even a knife. -

Wife and I have been known to compete in firearms competitions. If I wandered into CA, WA, OR, they'd probably throw away the key. -

I have an Arctic Fox... it's tough to find a dealer east of the Mississippi river, much less a rally... Now, when I retire, all bets are off, except I won't go into any west coast state. -
trailer brake recall question
road turtle replied to Wofulcyrcle's topic in F-Series SuperDuty Forum
Did you do the VIN check? It's not unusual for recall items to be cleared up at KTP before dealers get the update. You see this more frequently on mechanical components, Ford will make sure the component mfg is shipping good parts, but they may not have enough to feed the dealers, or they haven't developed a repair process yet. -
trailer brake recall question

Generally, that's a true statement. I got involved in one recall, that was issued as a stop ship, but not stop delivery. -
2022 Super Duty Orders & Discussion

your salesman is an idiot, vehicle visibility report is real, and it has a LOT of data we can't use, but it also has critical information the dealer can pass along to you. Call the sales manager at the dealership. If you meet the qualifications you can ask for a status update in the proper sub forum. -

working from home has it's benefits... and it's negatives. It's a LOT harder to leave the computer, when I don't have to leave to make dinner. All done 8/31!!! -
Recommended Amount of Miles Before Towing RV
road turtle replied to OldManJax's topic in F-Series SuperDuty Forum
We have a fall trip planned to the UP, continuing across the top of the country, then down to AZ, back up to Utah, back down to AZ -
Dang, I love this truck. CCLB D F350, and it barely blinks at my 13K+ 5th wheel. Through the mountains or flat lands, nada, it just don't care. Couple of small issues, when not towing and engine brake on, 3-2-1 shift can be very harsh. While on cruise and going uphill, IMHO, it waits too long to down shift. Quick press of accelerator forces a downshift. Adaptive cruise RTFW. How did I ever live without that? Still trying to identify my perceived issue with 7 round, if it's a problem with truck or trailer, or just needs to be broken in. Discovered an interesting issue with sync 4 and how it operates when center stack screen is in camera mode. It wants the phone to handle things like audio commands instead of sync handling it. Trailer camera is awesome. Still need to install TPMS. Still haven't figured out how to make pro trailer backup work, and I was part of the pre launch trial.

Micro Chip Hold - Work Around
road turtle replied to Ford truck guy's topic in F-Series SuperDuty Forum
This is interesting. The vehicles were certified EPA certified with auto stop start. Wonder how they got around that little tidbit. And, I HATED it on my F150! -
We had an emergency stop condition, and my trailer new hydraulic brakes had not been properly bled. It was a sphincter moment for us and the young lady who crossed right in front of us. I would not want to tow without having fully functional trailer brakes. After bleeding the brakes, and hooking up two days later, couldn't get the truck and trailer brakes to "hookup". Finally resorted to forcing the trailer brake pump to spin up by connecting plug pin to 12V, proving it wasn't the trailer. BUT, when I hooked the 7 pin back up again, it was working... sigh. Worst kind of problem, you don't know what was wrong, what fixed it, and it's working again.

My truck was lost with dozens (hundreds) of others at the off loading depot. In desperate need of quality organization! Then why have sales personnel? If a couple of well trained personnel are doing the work for a bunch of incompetent monkeys... -
5th Wheel Prep Package Kit is Available Online
road turtle replied to 787Toolman's topic in F-Series SuperDuty Forum
Yes it attaches to the trailer on the pin box -
Hooking up this morning, couldn't get brakes to work. I also have an issue where 7 round doesn't seem to plug in properly. Doesn't help I had to bleed trailer brakes, just to add to the diagnosis. It's working now, but I don't know what went wrong or what got fixed.

Trailer yaw sensor comes with pro backup. If you get the trailer camera and TPMS, it all connects to a 12 pin connector -
New 6.7 owner with DEF issues and loss of mpg
road turtle replied to Imarkdirt's topic in F-Series SuperDuty Forum
WRT to def levels. I started the trip home with a full def tank, and it was showing 7000 miles to empty. After towing for about 300 mile, it dropped to 2000 miles. Another roughly 300 miles, was down to 600 miles, and yet still showed 1/2 tank. It appears short local trips did not use hardly any def, but towing a 13k 5th wheel going up into the mountains just sucks down the def. I'm going fill up again, and hopefully that will get me the rest of the way home. -
We're on the road right now. Yesterday was able to bleed the trailer hydraulic brakes to get the air out of the line. It was more air than I care to see in brake lines, and explains the slow ramp up in pressure. Wife had a hard panic stop when someone turned right in front of us. Took several moments for the trailer brake pressure to build, but once it got there, we were full stop RIGHT NOW. Missed plowing into the side of a small car the young woman was driving by literally inches. That would have really wrecked her day, 20,000ish lbs full impact side of her car. I saw the accident developing before my wife did, her vision was shadowed by the 18 wheeler on our left side. I yelled out BRAKE, just as she saw the car. So yeah, brake controller recall is something to be concerned with.

TPMS/Camera/yaw sensor install

Here's how the camera looks driving down the road during daylight. It's gets very grainy at night, but still very usable. -
In normal times, and in larger metro areas, a dealer will offer you essentially 75% of blue book trade in value. This pretty much used to parallel black book, aka wholesale (auction) value. Market is completely turned upside down right now. Depends on how many new cars dealer is selling and how many vehicles are on their lot. Don't like the price the dealer is offering you, then try going around to other dealers, both new or used. I sold a couple of cars to one used lot who gave me decent dollars. This lot had newer better condition vehicles and they charged more too.

I paid $5.19 yesterday in FL. I had run the tank down pretty far... it was an expensive fill up. Just to make it worse, I have a BP card, and it got declined twice, as they sent a confirmation text to my wife's phone. She got the text AFTER I had filled up using AMEX, loosing the BP discount in the process.

I'm not a fan of off body carry. Also not a fan of required informed to LEO, there have been issues with that too. I posted earlier, watching people struggle with conceal carry in a vehicle during a training exercise was somewhat hilarious the gymnastics people had to do to get to their firearm. But it was also very sad, they had never tried to do it before. Even quickly unbuckling your seatbelt requires a technique that most have never seen before.

Oh Goody... thanks for the heads up. Do these trucks have OTA capability for software updates?
