I was surprised as well! I’m hoping I hit it at the right time. He explained to me how the process works for dealers and it was very interesting. Basically, before all of these supply chain issues dealers would get an allocation, so say a dealer gets 15 trucks allocated to be delivered and sold off the lot for march. We’ll when a customer would place an order it would add a spot to that allocation, so the dealer would still get 15 lot trucks,

That contradicts what ICE has told us.  I either misunderstood what he said, something changed, or your dealer is full of brown stuff.  Retail orders do not replace dealer stock orders.

Problem is, customer orders have gone through the roof.  I saw a stat last week, where Ford said in a press release, customer orders are now something like 75-80% when they were previously typically at 25%.  Dealer orders occur AFTER retail orders.  Ford's having troubles filling all the retail orders, so dealers aren't getting inventory.

Global shipping is getting more and more difficult.  I manage a segment of prototype builds.  I received a VP award with my management of our builds and deliveries when covid first hit.  We met all build requirements.  Now, it's actually getting worse.  I could ship stuff to Europe, literally over night.  Now, I'm planning on 2 weeks to Europe and 4+ weeks to Asia.  It's getting crazy, and shipping costs have gone absolutely through the roof.

I will say this, walking up to a car at 3 in the morning with limo tint is a very uneasy feeling, but rolling down the windows could not be better advice! After 22 years, I finally gave up walking up to the car and just simply asked the driver to step out. I have NEVER written a citation for tint, and in my last 3 years I am very confident I will close out my career without ever writing one! I’ve never truly understood tint laws and why they vary so much between states. If you want to black-out your windows I say go for it, but clearly legislators disagree! I’m going with 15% all the way around, and the clear ceramic on the windshield… and until I just read @danielj post I never even thought about the sunroof.

At least in MI, state police have convinced our legislature that banning tint on front windows is in their best interest.  Cars registered out of state are exempt and can have any amount of tint.  Apparently, criminals don't come from out of state

Seems like everyone has a different "rule of thumb"!  Everywhere I look, I see something different!

I'm going to reweigh on our way home, and also get my truck weighed separately.  On the way down to FL I was about 25% using a surrogate truck weight.Kind of makes sense, I have a lot of heavy stuff in the front compartment, and we were carrying a lot of wine and ammo :)

I can only assume part of it is they don’t want to have excess parts for a truck they won’t be manufacturing for much longer moving to the 23MY.

That has nothing to do with it.  Supplier capacity has a lot to do with ability to produce trucks.  Manufacturer's will balance out at the end of the model year.  We're still very likely several months away from changeover to new model year

What tonneau cover we going with these days? The truck will be more or less a pavement queen, with limited towing and or 5th wheel use. I haven't had a tonneau cover on a truck in the last 15 years, obviously the tech/market has changed since then.

Quality/UV protection/Rain & Snow protection are high on the list. From casual research I have looked at retrax, BAK, roll and lock and diamond back.

Leaning toward retractable style over the tri folds, the diamond back HD looks interesting but looks like it could be a pain in the ass as well.

    Thoughts?

I have the Ford factory roll up, mfg appears to be retrax.  I love almost everything about the cover, including being able to stand on it to wax the 5th wheel :)  What i don't like is how much bed space it takes up, which is part of my reason for getting LB.  While towing the 5th wheel, cover locks down just in front of hitch, providing pretty good protection from weather under the cover.

Interesting, so people who took the vaccine are essentially lab rats?

Friend of my wife's had a relative that died in a motorcycle accident that tested positive for covid and didn't payout on life insurance, because pandemic.

This time, with BEV and PHEV on tap, will we avoid it? The transplants and Tesla have a reputation advantage. Products built at non US facilities (Mach E) helps the corporation, but little for UAW represented facilities.

This oil price shock is going to have massive and long term impact.  Look at the ratio of ICE vehicles currently registered compared to BEV.

Consumers feel the pain and start buckling down.  Which means no new cars, no new construction projects.  Construction guys, see fewer people requesting quotes, and don't buy the new work truck,... and on and on.

I just checked Texas law on tint and apparently the limit is 25% on the front windows and no limit in back as long as you have side mirrors.  Also, you can get a medical exemption to ignore the 25% on the front.

I wonder though  would you be at risk if you drove to another state?

MI law specifically excludes out of state vehicles from our ridiculous tinting law.

Shale oil production in the US stopped when the pandemic hit because the price per barrel fell so low it made it financially impossible.  Most of the shale oil producers went bankrupt.  Until we get that capacity back, we are reliant upon the external market.

From a friend of a friend (alleged VP from a small producer), so take it for what it's worth...

Big oil companies bought up the assets from the shale oil producers and destroyed the equipment.

Can anyone confirm that our new trucks do not come with the reduced sleeve? My dealership said that Ford has discontinued these? If so I’m looking for the best reducer? If there is such one, didn’t like 2017 sleeve, will need to upgrade the hitch’s, more money gone.

    My F350D came with a 3-->2.5" reducer

I guess this is why many golf carts run with 6V batteries in various combinations of series and parallel to get desired voltage and Ah capacity?

My golf cart uses six 8V batteries.

Yes, GC batteries have much thicker and denser plates.  They are better equipped to handle being further discharged than either starting or so called deep discharge batteries.  12V GC style batteries are ridiculously heavy and expensive.  When I have to replace batteries in the new 5th wheel, Lithium will be on my shopping list.

Deep cycle batteries are often used for boats and trolling motors where you will run it down very low, hence deep cycle.  I'm no battery expert so if I said something that isn't 100% perfect, I guess I'll get called out for misinformation, but it is free advice, lol.

    787Toolman

What you're calling deep cycle batteries really aren't.  Still want to keep discharge to no more than 50%.  True deep cycle in wet batteries would be (2) 6V GC2.

Yes, the regional rep told my salesman who then called me and told me that.

I'm skeptical that a regional rep actually told the salesman that.

Communications such as that come through official channels and are made public first.  Either a regional rep needs to be fired, or a dealer salesman completely misunderstood what he had been told.

I respectfully disagree, there are always improvements that can be made. There's no way that someone should be getting their build who placed their order in Jan or Feb with the commodities that we were all told were holding our builds up and that we should delete to even move up. I've seen a lot of builds rolling off with AS, bed liner, & 5th whee prep all of which I was told I had to delete. Why was I told by the regional rep to delete those items or else I'd have to wait 20-30 more weeks?

A Ford employee directly told you that?

This is pretty  much exactly how I want to outfit my truck.  Since I am towing a heavy 5th wheel toyhauler, I'd like this stuff in the bed with the other cable. I would also like these to take some of the junk out of the cab. Right now we have trailer tpms, wireless rear view trailer camera and the RV gps all hanging out with us in the cab. I am also a ham radio operator and sometimes we are going to work a rally race so I'll have a ham radio in there too. SO.....if I can put half of this stuff or more in the dash and the sync.....well, let's just say I'll be a happy camper.

As far as accept it or schedule it, that was from my dealer so I suppose he meant accept the order. I did leave off nearly all options except what I had to have for max tow rating with  7.3 and heated seats for the better half. SInce I am now towing with a 2500HD, I can only pull the camper empty with my dune buggy. Anything else and the truck is overloaded. So you can see, now I need a real truck so I had no choice but to buy a Ford to get the work done. I also would like this truck before next summer(2023) if possible so I thought I'd do my part to help Ford help me. I would like the hitch prep, the cameras and tpms but what is the trade off for time against a dealer or self install?

I am kind of stuck about what to do. I have had my wife's Lincoln serviced at 3 other Ford dealers around me and this has been the only one to actually give me good honest service. I really wanted to stay close to  home if possible. I guess if this is the toughest decision I have to make, life ain't too bad is it?

I'm extremely pleased with this bracket to mount all the junk to.  I'd have my dash cam mounted there too, but it requires some additional fabrication.

It's a tough call, and in normal times I'd say wait and have it done at the factory... but as we all know, these are not normal times.  I was beginning to get worried on timing to get my truck, because it was bumping up against my time to leave for FL.  It literally came with enough time to get it partially ready for the trip, have the new suspension put in the 5th wheel and leave.
