  1. About 150 General Motor Co. dealers are parting ways with Cadillac instead of investing in costly upgrades required to sell electric cars, according to FOX Business. GM recently gave the dealers the choice: accept a buyout ranging from $300,000 to more than $1 million to exit the brand or spend about $200,000 to upgrade their dealerships for the sale of electric vehicles. About 17% of Cadillac’s 880 US dealerships agreed to take the offer to end their franchise agreements for the luxury brand, because many of them own other GM brands like Chevrolet and Buick and don’t sell many Cadillacs. That decision illustrates that even as the value of electric vehicles rises, many car industry insiders remain skeptical about selling and investing in the products. Dealers are weighing costly facility investments like electrical-system upgrades against uncertainty about demand for the vehicles, which now account for about 2% of U.S. vehicle sales. Some retailers say they are putting off orders of electric models, worried they will sit too long on their lots.   3. Last month, General Motors announced that it will no longer report its sales results on a monthly basis. The Detroit-based automaker will share sales data on a quarterly basis instead. The move breaks an auto industry tradition that has lasted longer than similar changes in sales reporting in the technology and retailing, along with other sectors. Let’s explore what’s behind GM’s decision. GM insists that a mere thirty days is too short a time frame to determine trends related to sales, demand, and supply in the automotive industry. Like other publicly-traded firms, the automaker already reports its financial results on a quarterly basis, rather than monthly. “Thirty days is not enough time to separate real sales trends from short-term fluctuations in a very dynamic, highly competitive market,” Kurt McNeil, GM’s U.S. vice president for sales operations, said in a statement. “Reporting sales quarterly better aligns with our business, and the quality of information will make it easier to see how the business is performing.” As any amateur statistician will tell you, however, more (accurate) information – not less – is key to trend and pattern derivation.   5. GM announced the fuel economy numbers for both the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and its fraternal twin GMC Canyon today, and those numbers are about what we expected—good, but not great. In fact, the 2.5-liter I-4's ratings are only a little bit better than the Colorado and Canyon's V-6 EPA ratings. Two-wheel drive, four-cylinder Colorado/Canyons with a six-speed automatic transmission get an EPA estimated 20 mpg in the city, and 27 mpg on the highway, with a combined rating of 22 mpg.
