Anybody know why the 03-05 aviator has two cooling fans? It seems redundant having a standard clutch fan and an electric fan. I'd like to remove the clutch fan so it doesn't sound like a Mack truck when I start it. Has anybody done this?

My 2011 Edge Limited started overheating. We had the dealer check it and said that the control module and fan needed to be replaced. I was hoping they would cover it under warranty, but it's 1500 miles over. At $800 I decided to do the work myself. With just the module replaced it worked just fine and only cost me $180. Tested that each fan came on as the temp went up (and max AC)..no issues until 3 weeks later it stopped working again. Fan seems to work fine if I bypass the module. I tested for a possible ground from the input to the module from the PCM and no issues there. Maybe my new module was just a bad one, but seems unlikely, so I'm afaid if I replace it again I'll just end up in the same spot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
