Michael Reynolds
Finally a Ford where the feature content is at least offered up as an option. Right on!

Catalepsy
I think this is an excellent family van. Looks better than any minivan and should be a good alternative to SUVs. This gives Ford something that no one else has.
bravestar
Can this vehicle be configured as a 2+3+3 seating arrangement? If so, that is huge. I know of a lot of people that would like the option of a 8 passenger vehicle that doesn't consume fuel like a full size SUV.

I know of a lot of people that would like the option of a 8 passenger vehicle that doesn't consume fuel like a full size SUV. That would be a NO. Its strictly a 6 or 7 seater. 2 + 2 (or 3 with a bench) + 2.
fordtion
HOLY LIGHT IT'S A BUS. Good idea, might get some school districts to buy them to take the kiddies to school. :boring: It better have some good interior offerings, cause the exterior just looks plain box like. ebritt
Not bad but why does everyone always have a retarded looking steering wheel???
RichardJensen
Because steering wheels like this: are deadly.
BlackHorse
Remember when we were all younger and concept cars of the future were always these sleek aerodynamic things that looked like waves or bubbles or something? Everyone was just sure we were going to be driving these curvaceous wind slicing vehicles with glass cut clear over the top or something? Remember those? Turns out we will be driving boxes instead. What a let down. lol
igor
Not bad but why does everyone always have a retarded looking steering wheel??? I actually like the Ford steering wheels - they have a LOT of buttons on there, and they need their space .. and I have yet to see a wheel that NO ONE complains looks like poo ... The Ford wheel is conservative, and linear, but so are a lot of their styles .. when they start building curvacious cars - like the new MKS and MK-L (?) then they will probably move to more curvacious interiors .. but with the current Ford brand styling., this works well and is functional. Blueblood
The steering wheel looks out of place, and horrible, looks like something out of the 70's, what's with the tacked on v-shaped airbag cover??? That and the cheapo gauges need to go. Who uses 120 mph speedo's anymore? And don't say nobody drives that fast, the 120 mph speedo and the lack of numbers (20mph spacing?) is a huge oversight and shows a lack of caring about the details. Besides that the interior looks good, minus the same old cheap Ford switchgear of course.

RichardJensen
don't say nobody drives that fast, the 120 mph speedo and the lack of numbers (20mph spacing?) is a huge oversight and shows a lack of caring about the details. Fact: Most speedometers are hilariously out of caliber at high speeds anyway. Fact: there are 5mph tick marks on the dial People that can't infer their speed based on these increments shouldn't be driving.

Same buttons on the Edge and they are cheap as can be, go check one out sometime, I have, so I'm not just looking at these pictures and making an opinion.. The gauges look like something is missing.. BORG
Ford has some tiny gauges, at least reletive to their previous instrument designs. I personally don't like the 20MPH increment, but it's something that anybody can get use to.

Blueblood
Fact: Most speedometers are hilariously out of caliber at high speeds anyway. No excuse to make it look cheap. And I don't believe that's true anyways.. Fact: there are 5mph tick marks on the dialAnd they are UNLABLED! Cheap! Number the damn things already.. People that can't infer their speed based on these increments shouldn't be driving. It's unsafe to take your eyes off the road for more than a split second. I have excellent vision, yet if I do a quick glance and see I'm at one of the "ticks" between 40 and 60, and I'm being followed by a cop, I don't want to have to take my eyes off the road for more than necessary to figure out how fast I'm driving. And what about all the old farts driving around? They have lots of money and they can't see shit, might as well keep them under the Ford umbrella. This is the kind of stuff that always disappoints me, Ford will build a good car, but then make baffling errors and obvious cost cutting moves that cost sales.. The little things do count. Oh and summer 08? This will be forgotten about by then, it should be on sale next month, which is what Ford's competition does. And I have a huge question.. Is this the actual production car? Or is this one of those murky "close to production concepts? The reason I ask is because they actually got the grill right, it doesn't have that melted look like the Fusion, Edge, and Taurus grills do. As well as not having the ugly blog of chrome around the Ford emblem... Edited April 5, 2007 by Blueblood
Blueblood
I've checked out the edge in person and I don't see a problem. Maybe you don't, but people cross shopping the competition will see them glaring at their face..
RichardJensen
No excuse to make it look cheap. What? So the car will look 'expensive' if it's got like a 760mph speedo? Tell me, does this proceed in a linear fashion, or is it logarithmic? At what point in time does having more ticks on the speedo stop making your car look more expensive? Also, regarding the gauge numbers: most of the time you don't 'read' the numbers on the gauge anyway: you go by the position of the needle. You don't think this is the case, but it's true. Once you know where 65mph is, you go by needle position, not numbers. Or do you have all the numbers on your watch as well?

The gauges look like something is missing.. THERE IS NO RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ANY SWITCHGEAR BEFORE THE FLEX AND THE FLEX SWITCHGEAR ... (as long as we are talking about the dash) the only carryover switchgear is on the doors and the rear seat DVD player, and some random seat folding buttons. All the gear on the dash is brand new, and if you can decipher their material quality, tactile response, and other dimensions of switchgear quality from PICTURES, you are a genius. You can bitch about the Edge all you want - I agree - but the Flex switchgear is all new - so until you go sit in it and play with the buttons, claims like those are irrelevant and unfounded. RichardJensen
140-150 is all you need, and it's your choice, do you want ford's to look cheap or look expensive and classy? You've got to be the first person on the PLANET to make a deal out of this. I bet I couldn't even tell you the range on my Sable--or the increments---- How many people on the board can--right now, off the top of their heads state the mph range and increment units of their speedometers? For how many people was this a significant factor in their purchase decision? A factor? Not even noticed? This thing is being sold to parents who will be hauling kids--it would be the height of irresponsibility for them to exceed 3/4ths of the rated capacity of THIS speedometer, let alone a 150mph unit.
