ebritt
I love it when liberals like to argue with “facts” on their side because their so called facts are usually wrong, half-truths or just flat out lies. This is especially true with the war on Iraq. Putting aside the arguments about whether or not we should have gone, we are there, now. That is an undisputable fact. With that being the case, we as a nation should look at how we are doing, what we are accomplishing and is it worth the price in lives we are paying. Unfortunately, this is where liberals can’t stand the heat. When you look at the facts, by any measure, we are winning in Iraq. The Iraqi people are better off. The world is a safer place. Consider the following FACTS, objectively, and make your own judgements about “how we are doing” in Iraq. The following information is a gathered by Oxford Research International in two seperate polls. One conducted in early 2004, then again at the end of 2005. These polls covered all of Iraq’s major regions and demographic groups. Asked to compare their current lives with their lives under Saddam, Iraqis reported an improvement in availability of necessities such as clean water, health care and education. They also reported an improvement in overall economic wellbeing. They reported that local governments had improved. Asked what form of government they hoped to live under going forward, democracy won handily: four-to-one over the rule of one-man, and ten-to-one over totalitarianism. Iraqis list security as their most pressing problem. But a plurality of Iraqis feel safer now than under Saddam, and a majority feel safer from ordinary crime. Moreover, better than 60 percent feel personally safe in their neighborhoods. Iraq Body Count. an antiwar group that keeps a running tally of Iraqi civilian deaths, reports that the daily toll under the occupation falls in the range of 25 to 28 per day. But under Saddam’s rule, the death toll averaged three times that, including 600,000 civilian executions recorded by the Documental Center for Human Rights, and the 100,000 Kurds killed during the Anfal operation. Coalition casualties have declined by 27 percent in 2005. They have declined by 62 percent in 2006, measured against the comparable period of 2005. The insurgent strategy of targeting Iraqi police and army units peaked in July of 2005. Since then, casualties among those units have declined by 33 percent. Attacks on other soft targets are also down. For instance, there were 146 strikes against the oil infrastructure in 2004, compared to 101 in 2005. One year ago, March 2005, the number Iraqi boots on the ground — police and army units — surpassed those of Coalition forces. From March of 2005 to September of 2005, the number of civilian tips informing on insurgents increased from 483 to 4,700, as numerous Sunni tribes declared outright war on al Qaeda. Fifty-eight percent of Iraqis feel threatened by terrorists, compared with 10 percent who feel threatened by Coalition troops. And by 71 percent to 9 percent, Iraqis believe that their own security forces — Iraqi security forces — are winning the fight against terror. We are building schools and businesses, we are rebuilding the environment. The government of Iraq, consisting of people from all walks of life, religious beliefs and regions, is growing more and more efficient. WE ARE WINNING! Our most daunting task in this war on terror is defeating the enemies at home.
methos
Methos, We are not using coal because of 2 things, 1. Enviros block everything.........that is a little extreme of a statement...........let me reprhrase........enviros are up in arms about the method to get the coal called strip mining. 2. the volitility of oil prices. Investors are scared to death that IF the United States converts, OPRICK will dump the price of oil just to put them under. Oil MUST remain above 37 bucks a barrel (I believe) to make keep it flowing at a profit. As far as DARKS (only in capitals to get his attention) assertion of where we get our oil from, he could very well be correct, and I will assume he is...........therefore Dark, for the purpose of expediency, we will again agree. But the reason Iraq is so valuable even if we DO NOT get our oil from them is------------>anytime an oil producer sneezes, the price rises causing destabilization. Just follow the oil market and you will see my words ring true. From what I understand, Iraq has the second largest underground oil reserves in the Middle East. Just as a stable US friendly Saudi Arabia is in the Wests best interest, so is a friendly Iraq. Finally, I am not sold that a democrat will win the White House.............and if they do, IF it is one of the top prospects, (Hillary or Obama) the only one who will bring the troops home anytime soon is Obama. My mind tells me that the DEMS SHOULD win the White House with the mood of the country, but my mind also tells me that unless someone BESIDES Hillary or Obama is the standard bearer, they will lose unless the Repubs run a slug. Both Obama and Hillary are to polar a figures in politics to carry the day. Remember, America loved Bill, but hated Hillary, that has not changed except in liberals eyes. Even my liberal friends say that if it is Hillary, most of them will either not vote, or vote republican. As a matter of fact, most of them are hoping for someone else besides the front runners...........virtually anyone else if the truth be told. For those of you who are smug in believing that the democrats have a lock, you are only fooling yourself. Republicans are running against each other, not a democrat at the present time. When the opponents are picked for the partys, Hillary or Obama will be easy to pick off. Remember, you will have BOTH candidates saying Bush screwed up!!!!!!!! Therefore, since they will agree on that, it will fall back on something else. America is not going to go for the 2 socialists who almost proclaim they are socialist, lol. As long as America believes that the Repub will not follow in GWs footsteps, from my way of thinking this presidential race will be lost by democratic stupidity, instead of won by republican logic, lol. Time will tell for sure, but in the meantime, check out the two top democrats favorabilty rating. When in a mock race with GW, or GWs policys, they win hands down. But when they run against an un named republican who also stands against GWs policys, they lose. I read the link STP posted earlier. It didn't have very many positive things to say about coal to fuel production. It did say that it doubles the CO2 output per unit. I know we sit on different sides of the fence on this one and I'll leave it there. The article did go on to say that with carbon sequestration, the impact would not be as severe. I did a small amount of research on it and unfortunately, it is a complicated issue, I really cannot comment on it intelligently - I just don't have the time lately to delve into it. Let me just say this, when it comes to CO2 emissions, or mining operations that pollutes the landscape, I have to wonder if it's worth it. After all, this is the only inhabitable planet that I am aware of, and while the imminent dangers of excessive carbon might not be observed by all, I still think it's better to side with caution and prudence versus wrecking our only means of survival. As far as the election, I do agree that it's way too early to be calling anyone or party a winner. But unless something dramatic occurs, the only party that can beat the Democrats are the Democrats themselves. I have started listening more intently to some of the Republicans, most still favor continuation in Iraq. I know that appeals to their base and during the general election they will begin to appeal to a broader audience, with a broader message, but there is no way in hell anyone is going to win suggesting anything like the status quo in Iraq. The issues is big, and it's only getting bigger.

But when they run against an un named republican who also stands against GWs policys, they lose. well for the msot part we agree, however hillary said she would end the war. taken form her website America is ready for a leader who will end the war in Iraq and a president who will respect our Armed Forces by properly planning for the missions we ask our troops to undertake. If the Bush administration won't, as president and commander in chief, Hillary will end this war. The war in Iraq has imposed a tremendous cost on our troops, their families, and our budget. Four years after the start of the war, the violence continues to grow, and there is no end in sight. Hillary opposes President Bush's plan to escalate the war and proposed, along with Senator Robert Byrd, legislation to end authority for the war in Iraq. The legislation will propose October 11, 2007 -- the five year anniversary of the original resolution authorizing the use of force in Iraq -- as the expiration date for that resolution. The President would be required to come to Congress to seek new authority. Following deauthorization, Senator Clinton would not support any new legislation that did not start to remove our troops from the middle of this sectarian civil war. She has also proposed a cap on troop levels to January 1, 2007 levels and put forth a comprehensive roadmap for ending the war. If it is followed, Hillary's bill, the Iraq Troop Protection and Reduction Act of 2007, will end the war before the next president takes the oath of office. But she has also been clear: if George Bush refuses to end the war, when she is president, she will. Hillary opposes permanent bases in Iraq. She believes we may need a vastly reduced residual force to train Iraqi troops, provide logistical support, and conduct counterterrorism operations. But that is not a permanent force, and she has been clear that she does not plan a permanent occupation. HILLARY 08!!

Imawhosure
As far as the election, I do agree that it's way too early to be calling anyone or party a winner. But unless something dramatic occurs, the only party that can beat the Democrats are the Democrats themselves. I have started listening more intently to some of the Republicans, most still favor continuation in Iraq. I know that appeals to their base and during the general election they will begin to appeal to a broader audience, with a broader message, but there is no way in hell anyone is going to win suggesting anything like the status quo in Iraq. The issues is big, and it's only getting bigger. Then as far as the two front running dems, you are for Obama if forced to cho0ose between the two. Fair enough. I would also like to point out to you, that at some point in time per the price, coal will become our fuel. Far right repubs, and far left dems are really the minority truth be told. At some point, those on the fence will demand conversion, and coal will become the fuel of choice. Is that price at 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 bucks a gallon? I dunno. Every dollar more converts more. It is kinda like those repubs on the fence when you complain about cost of the war in dollars and cents. Those on the fence join you as their taxes, and the cost in life rise. They flinch, and personally, how can you blame them. The pendulum swings from right to left, (or from left to right if you would like it stated that way) and never seems to stop in the middle. All you need do is see how far off what America wants the dems plans are, to know it is failure before it starts. Bush shoulda used the same tact, lol. The dems hopes are in the fact the USA is tired of Bush and his inability to communicate, or give a reasonable plan coherently, or whatever. This does not mean that America has decided to follow their plan, lol, they just want rid of Bushes plan. I must admit, I am excited about this election, because it will cement this countrys path for at least the next quarter century. If the repubs lose, it is Bushes fault, plain and simple. If the dems lose, it is because they are incompetent. Personally, this could be the best time for a 3rd party candidate. It might finally break the hold of a bunch of people who only give us 2 choices, and many times, neither of them is very good, lololol!!!!!! Good Luck Meth! Trimdingman
As far as the War on Terror is concerned, it doesn't matter which party wins. Nothing will change. Everyone wants to get on the podium and spout patriotism. The Dems are jealous because the GOP is getting all of the glory. If the Democrats get in, all of you peacenik losers will be dumped pronto. As far as freedom and taxes are concerned, if the Democrats win, watch out. Freedom will go down, and taxes will go up. The Democrats want to pretend that 9/11 never happened. Pearl Harbor happened. Perhaps they would also have ignored that if they were not in power at the time. They were in power at the time, so they were all over that. "This day will live on in infamy". If America is attacked when they are not in power, then we are the agressors. Go figure. Edited July 31, 2007 by Trimdingman
howie
First off howie... I commend you on your forum research savvy which led you to disect my first name from clicking on a picture in my post, clicking on properties and reading my name from photobucket image hosting url. Brilliant! Kudos to you mon frere! Feel free to address me as Pete if you must. peter, actually it was much simpler than that. A few tools, understanding how things work and a little common sense is all. I thank you for cluing us into the laborious public way of doing so tho. I'm glad you admit you would at least have your turn with the crop I presented, it proves you do have some sense about you or at least you once did. Of course you are older now and your standards have changed, but wouldn't you say they have decreased by claiming that this is attractive? Hmmm, I suppose you just don't get it, peter. While your life may be predicated on the plastic and skin deep attractions, my criteria includes class, intelligence and ability. While you are satisfied with encounters that consist of little more than a happy meal and a shake, I prefer my interludes to include candles, flowers, piano, a tender cut of veal and a chilled bottle of merlot. The trappings of romance, if you will. Indeed, I do find Ann to be very attractive. You would never understand it. And, btw, we all know people in Hollywood aren't looking for relationships so why even go there? They aren't? Then why is divorce such a killer industry there? Of course they are looking. Most simply don't hold any value of the mechanics to make a relationship work. I did read howie, that's the difference between you and I - I read and comprehend before I formulate an opinion - you form an opinion, label, and move on. Predictable Just google them and you to will find them. Nothing difficult really (if only finding WMDs was that easy). Thanks for the lesson on testosterone levels and adams apples...I'll just refer to Ann as Pat from now on. Why? Now if you are turned on by Pat and his/her ambiguous genetalia that is your prerogative. I don't care to delve into your sexual deviances. You're in the wrong forum for that. Typical Lefty behavior... when called on the carpet for their stupidity, they degenerate into the absurd and obscene. Now, getting back to the real topic at hand here. Some questions for you: 1) Please direct me to one of my posts on this forum where I have admitted to being a Liberal/Democrat. (Hint, you can research this by clicking on the my controls tab) I don't have to research it much further than your previous paragraph, peter. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, I bet it ain't a monkey. 2) Since the Iraq war has started can you tell me approximately how many suicide bombings have occured in Iraq? How many before the war? Your point? 3) Bin Laden issued his 2nd fatwa in 1998...5 years before the Iraq war. What was his chief complaint in that fatwa, howie? You feel his complaint is valid? How so? Now, I'll understand if you don't want to elaborate 'cause some of the ensuing discussion just might prompt you to think, instead of you being told what to think by the talking heads that are paid to be a mouth piece for whoever funds them. Hmmm... an interesting characteristic of Dems/Libs is when they get going, they make Freudian slips as to their inner mindset workings. They easily accuse others of what, in truth, they are so very guilty of. Sadly, they don't understand they do so. Classicly peter, you show us again. Your talking heads told you Ann was Mann and instead of thinking or researching in any meaningful way, you ran with it. Reinforcing it along your putrid way were your repugnant, bigoted thoughts as you slimed from one Lefty site to the next, espousing and enhancing the shit you hoped would stick to the wall. When exposed for the lie it is, instead of embracing any shred of decency, you degenerate even further into the crevass of moronic swill you spew. You, peter, are a LOSER. I would ask the Creator of All to Damn you, but I feel s/he could not do a better job of it than you have done for yourself. And I promise, I won't adversely refer to your esteemed Ann Coulter any more. I highly doubt your promises hold any merit. Plain and simple really. Then you finish off your rant with a remark about asking the Creator of All to Damn me? Doesn't that seem a bit judgmental to you howie? I could give a rats ass about you or your creator. It's people like you that once moved Albert Camus to say "Don't wait for the last judgment - it takes place every day." I take you calling me a loser as a compliment howie...I don't want to resemble your sorry ass in any fashion...most assuredly in the way you think (or don't actually). howie finishes - I highly doubt your promises hold any merit. Imawhosure
You have a better chance of getting struck by lightening. What Facts???????? 9-11 is a fact that it happened, not that it is what will happen if we leave. 9-11 also has no facts behind it as to who was behind it. Haven't you read the just released finally unsealed documents? Man, it was an eye opener to me!!!!!!! At least they finally admitted it wasn't hijackers, and named a RENEGADE COUPLE OF TRANSFORMERS under the control of Dick Cheney who actually did it, lolololololol. This is why the towers came down, the secy, secy, fuel that powers those robots is volatile. Not to mention, their weapons going off after getting lodged in the towers. Rosie was almost right!!!!!!! That's my story, I dunno if I will stick with it, but YOU CAN'T DISPROVE IT, so therefore it must be correct...........isn't that the NEW logic on here!!! fmccap
It's not intended to intimidate, It's pointing out what you guys choose to ignore.. They will not stop, and if you think labeling me a "fear monger" will stop me from saying it your mistaken. whether I acknowledge or not doesn't change the facts! Bin Laden is the so-called main man, right? Why is it not on his profile on the FBIs most wanted list??????? I do remember them saying that there was no sustainable evidence to prove it. When the United States Military chases your ass across the globe in an attempt to either capture, or kill ya, I would say being on the FBIs list is the least of that persons problems. Also, if this is a big cover up, let them dem candidates running tell us all about it!!!!! I am listening, aren't you? And I hear NOTHING. All it is in reality, is a way to make Bush and America look bad by questioning everything. HERE-------->Japan didn't attack Pearl Harbor, we did!!!!! Hitler was trying to make peace in 1943, and we didn't allow it to happen!!!! North Korea is really a country closely resembing Shang Ri La, and we are trying to make them out as crazys!!!!! Iran didn't take our people hostage and parade them, the government actually had them to get public support!!!! We didn't land on the moon......EVER, it was really a mock up set in Utah!!!!!! Challenger didn't blow up, their was a spy on board (probably the school teacher) and we had to spirit the bunch of them away, so we created a disaster to cover it up!!!! THESE THINGS ARE RIDICULOUS and NONSENSICAL, but if the truth be told, some person on here might believe it, cause it fits his political agenda. There is a difference between looking for the truth, and looking for a reason to discredit the truth because you don't like the outcome the truth gives you. It is kinda like religion. (and no offense to those of you who are religious intended) Instead of feeling badly because certain people are very rich and we are not, some religions tell us the hardest thing for a rich man to do is get the kingdom of God upon his/her death. (you Catholics at least will remember that one) Ya can't prove it, it probably is not fact, but now you are a happy little middle class or poor person cause someone told you the rich guy is gonna get screwed..........and aren't ya happy you aren't rich, and don't even aspire to be rich to boot. Again, we don't need this military action anywhere, cause we really attacked ourselves cause Bin Laden is NOT on the FBIs most wanted list, etc, etc. Now we all feel better, bring everyone home from everywhere, it is all Bushes fault, and aren't ya happy someone gave ya an excuse to blame someone else so you can push your agenda with a clear conscience. I don't want to be rich, cause I will never attain the kingdom of God!!!!! OK, let us pray!!!!! May all these people stay poor.....................etc, etc,...................pay through the nose for gas..................etc, etc,,,,,,,, AMEN!!!!!!!! Either way this goes I don't like the outcome. When you look at there so-called truth it's shady just like all the intelligence they said was the truth before this whole mess. Turned out they were wrong. Could be wrong again?? What's all this secrecy (executive privilege) with this Executive branch??? Including Cheney even tho he does not consider himself to be part of it.
