Basra attacks down 90% since British troops left

The British army says violence in Basra has fallen by 90% since it withdrew from the southern Iraqi city earlier this year.

 

 

Around 500 British soldiers left one of Saddam Hussein's palaces in the heart of the city in early September and stopped conducting regular foot patrols.

A spokesman says the Iraqi security forces still come under attack from militants in Basra, but the overall level of violence is down 90% since the British troops left.

This isn't WWII, and even if it was, I really think it would be worse, not better. For in my opinion, the public was much more engaged. It's ironic, nowadays, we have all this information available to us, but most of it is so biased that if affords many the chance to hear only what they want to hear.

 

As far as equipment, I agree, the government should have converted Wixom (or some other large facility) and started cranking out those anti-mine vehicles en masse. Along with whatever else they needed. Why they didn't is beyond me, it would have been cheaper and far more efficient.

 

As far as support, they have had it, for four solid years. However, there has been little progress. As far as reporting, I agree, there should be more, but the fact of the matter is more reporters have been killed in Iraq than all of WWII. Anymore, reporters aren't to keen on leaving the "green zone". I do not blame them.
