Pioneer
Sounds about right. I would have been in the next group drawn from the flowback list.
182
I am curious to as what these apprentices seniority is. We have a bunch of people with 10 years seniority that have been on the trades wait list for 4 years.

We have a bunch of people with 10 years seniority that have been on the trades wait list for 4 years. Their 10 years will mean nothing once they are on course. Well, I take that back. They can use it towards vacation preference. Personally, I was on the wait list for 6 years, and we have some journeymen in our plant that waited over 20 for Electrician. We have a bunch of people with 10 years seniority that have been on the trades wait list for 4 years. If Wixom EL apprentices have one day seniority, they have more than a bunch of peoplewith 10 yrs sen. who have taken the test and have been waiting 4 yrs to be called on. Period. Wixom EL apprentices' classification is electrical apprentice and people on the waiting list are NOT. They are presently working(obviously) and Wixom is in GEN. Good for you Wixom EL's, I hope you're all placed soon.
182
And we have Livonia people in GEN that were put there by Wixom people. Wixom people that were not needed, put 50 working Livonia people out of work and closer to the street. I understand Ford is making plants take in apps where they are needed. But it pisses me off to no end that I have waited to these jobs to finally open up and people from other plants are getting them. Under this system a guy could have went on trades last year at Wixom with 2000 seniority and will now move into a job ahead of people with more seniority and more time waiting on the list. I know you and I have disagreed in the past over "Outsiders" taking over home plant people. All I can say is that in the case of Electrician App. , they are already "there" ! They are not prod. still on the waiting list. Ford has already started investing $$ in classes, tools, books, etc. and now they are in GEN. Ford obviously has a need for EL appr. and they already have a pool to draw from (Wixom or any plant for that matter,at least in zone). Would I be happy if I was at Livonia and still waiting for a call up.? No, but understand that seniority usually still means A LOT. Last I looked,Wixom was still a Ford property. As far as prod. being displaced, as much as it hurts, IMO, there should be national seniority. There would need to be guidelines but it could work. Get used to it. Plants are closing. Personally, I hope Ford puts on massive apprentices. That is just more people I can bump to an off shift when I get transferred. Welcome to Wixom circa. 2001....... Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me: I lift my lamp beside the golden door. Wixom welcomed displaced ford workers from Flat Rock, Dearborn, Michigan Truck....Etc. We didn't need these workers. Everyone that was working the floor knew that unless we were awarded new product.... the writing was on the wall. I lost my partner and was bumped off my shift by one of 7 new Michigan Truck Millwrights that we accommodated. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't pissed at the time, but as I got to know the individuals... I realized that they were as helpless as I was. None of them wanted to be there, they all wanted to go home. I just hope that you guys give the Wixom transplants a chance and treat them with the respect that you would want your self. I don't think any of us should feel secure as we ride this crazy wave, called Ford Motor Company.
rawselectrician
the apprentices may not be staying after graduation. when they spun us off to visteon i was on course. so i asked" what if they lay us off?" their response was once you are on course you are guaranteed to graduate. (unless you screw it up for yourself). so they may just be letting them graduate then they send them back to their plant if they still have one. This is just some of what I meant about 182. I've told him that while understanding his pain, you dont just leave EL's or apprentices on ILO and put new ones on at said plant. Ditto on flowbacks from closed plants. It seems he has circled his wagons and his name is Custer........
soupy
If Wixom is closed, and they transfer to Livonia, Livonia becomes their basic unit. The thing to remember about Liv. is that they make two trans. 4R AND 6R. More than half of workforce employed building 4R. In two years or less 4R will be phased-out. Over and done! 6R cannot and will not pick-up the extra workers, skilled and non alike. There is no new work on horizon. Expect big reduction in employment levels. If Ford goes two trades classifications like GM and Chry........ guys who thought they had good senority in thier trade, may find out they don't.
