Ford Cooks Up "Edible" Interiors

I hope people don't think MJ and Hemp are the same thing!!

5 or 6 years ago, PBS aired a documentary of how cannabis came to be a banned substance. Apparently DuPont was about to introduce Dacron, Rayon and Nylon, and they wanted hemp removed as a competitor. In the debate, the American Medical Association submitted a paper opposing the measure (that was before tranquilizers). Anyway, it got passed.

Then Pearl Harbor happened, and the Japanese took over the Philippines (Manilla rope), and the USN needed new sources for rope. So quietly, Uncle Sam re-established hemp plantations for the duration.

But... why?

Its all about "sustainability"

Ford seems to be the only auto manufacturer that has taken this to heart.

Its much more than miles-per-gallon.

Ford seems to be miles ahead on this.

Here is the microsite for Ford's sustainability efforts.

Maybe it's because we (humans) are seemingly trying to bury ourselves with non-recyclable trash evidenced by the growing ----> gyre

I applaud Ford for becoming responsible for using biodegradable materials. For those that are thinking, "oh, those environmentalists, they are just a bunch of nuts . . ." just remember that eventually, someone has to clean up all of the trash, which costs $, which usually means increased taxes, which means :-(

Here's how you can become a zillionaire... Figure out a way to clean it all up:

Scientists who have studied the issue say that trawling the ocean for all of its trash is simply impossible and would harm plankton and other marine life. In some areas, big fragments can be collected, but it's simply not possible to thoroughly clean a section of ocean that spans the area of a continent and extends 100 feet below the surface

Better choices in manufacturing are just (but an important) part of a ever-growing problem that our world, with an exploding population must deal with. . . eventually. Now is as good time as any.

Oh, and for those that are material logistics challenged, plastics and foams, etc. are fossil fuel based - a finite commodity, which when you add in such things as plastic (and other products) water bottles (of which as much as 75% are not recycled), well, let's put it this way, "It all adds up".
