This is obviously the "cooling" mule for the MKT (the rumored name for the Flex based Lincoln). Personally, I can't wait to see this new Lincoln and find out what "French Doors" are supposed to be. It's funny that people think that Ford would put a Lincoln nose on a Freestyle/TaurusX, but give the Flex an all new body.

Really is amazing that Lincoln milked the '61 Continental for 28 years (until the '90 Town Car).

And they really haven't had a consistent look since (of course, I maintain that the Mk VII, Continental, and Town Car were a rather odd assortment--with the Fox Continental looking like the product of a one-night stand between a Mark VII and a tired and faded old Cadillac Seville.

Everyone knows those Sevilles were real sluts.

Thanks Sullynd. Now we can just recycle all of the comments from last year. That will be a real time saver for some of the negatiods.

Yes, we can skip over the pleasantries and get right to the important stuff. I think thats the 2010 explorer!!!!! It can't be a test mule. What you see is what you get.

Oh I thought it was the new Oldsmobile Bravada! :hysterical:

Anyway, it a damned test mule... An MK"F" front on a Taurus X... And the snow on the roof is giving it a humpback roof...

It's nothing for anyone to be concerned about. Obviously it's going to have some parts from the Flex with a totally different rear and likely some new bodyside sheetmetal as well to set it apart. Why wouldn't Lincoln make this as different as the MKS is different from the Taurus...

It's notable how cool concept passenger car front ends keep ending up on SUV's and crossovers. We ought to be just thankful the Mustang front end didn't get bastardized on the front of one...

Anyway, I expect this thread to turn ridiculous as usual....

From what insiders say, it WILL be as different as Taurus/MKS, remember this IS a test mule.

How many times do I have to say it? It's only a testing mule, just like what Ford did w/ Flex.

The family resemblance is even more eery from the rear:

The 82 Continental came two years before the 1984 Mark VII. All Lincoln did was do what it is still doing today by making me-too designs by Copying the roofline of an "esteemed" luxury sedan of the day which then happened to be a Cadillac Seville of 1980, then adding Lincoln styling cues front and rear. It was odd that thing was sold alongside the Aero Mark VII until the new Taurus based Continental came out in 87. The Seville that the Continental copied left at the end of 1985.

Lincoln may have tried to copy the Seville, but its a good thing they never tried to copy the Cimarron which was part of Cadillac's lineup during this same period.

As for the fate of the Seville, the bustle-back body style remained in production until 1985 - to then be replaced by a further downsized and very plain looking Seville. Even Cadillac was known for occasionally getting their styling wrong.

One thing for sure about the new Lincoln-Flex, its not going to look like anything else on the road. When I first looked at the massive grill on the front of the mule, I thought "whoa, not sure how to take this." I did the same thing when the first photos of the Chrysler 300c were leaked (in fact in all honesty, I hated the new Chrysler's look until I saw one on the road and then I loved it).

The styling of the Lincoln will definitely be polarizing.

I stand corrected as my poor memory forgot it was 1985 not 1984 when the bustle-back Seville bowed out.

Ever since 1985 Cadillac was all wrong by downsizing everything into little ungraceful boxes. When 1992 rolled around, it looked as if Cadillac copied the popular late 80's Thunderbirds making what looked more like a 4-door Thunderbird calling it a Seville and an Eldorado that was not too unlike the Tbird coupe roofline but a little more straight edged as opposed to rounded off aero. Cadillac didn't get back to relavence until the Escalade and CTS came along. The Navigator brought the only real relavence to Lincoln and it seems only now they are trying to catch up. Before the Navigator and Escalade came along the only supporting cars were the DeVille and Town Car maketed to old people.

Oh yeah we are lucky Lincoln didn't follow the Cimmaron with an Escort sedan with a Mark grille and tire hump. However, there is always hope for the Lincoln MKY... :hysterical:

Maybe the MK-Flex will help Lincoln in the same way the Navigator did when it first arrived. As a mini-van "type" luxury vehicle, does it have much competition that isn't already classified as an SUV? What classification do the Cadillac SRX and Mercedes R class fall under?

By the way you are scaring me. The MKR front doesn't look bad on the Focus. I need a drink.
