raptor to be svt?

Beg to differ. The vast majority of them (LS1 f-bodies and 99-01 Cobras) were mid-13 second cars. You had a couple of freaks out there, but that was not typical.

That may be true, but they were on the low side of mid 13s while the cobras were on the high side of mid 13s.

Jalopnik is saying there is a Big SVT logo on the tailgate and F O R D lettering on the hood.

Having just attended Ford's spring dealer meeting, there was no mention of the Raptor being SVT. Farley spoke like all dealers would be getting the Raptor next year. We were shown a picture of it's grill. On the other hand, we did see pics of new Fusion, Mustang and Taurus. I am pumped about everything I saw today.

Yes did the Taurus look like the one in the spy photo?

raptor was shown to ford dealers today. "Ford is reportedly very excited about the Raptor, and execs allegedly went as far as saying that the Blue Oval was going to drive the truck right up Toyota's ass."

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/10/lots-of...ds-f150-raptor/

they said "380 HP" but then went on "we think they are sandbagging"

i guess 380 is the lowest tune for the Boss so they don't set the number high and then not deliver, still im a little upset with 380, should be at least 400

Ford execs did not make the quote about Toyota and asses. That came from a dealer on a video Ford made summing up the new product. They showed the video either before or after Farley talked about the Raptor. And the Taurus looks just like the spy photo that is circulating.

do not laugh - camo = surprise - panoramatic roof? fabric roof a la Jeep? something is under there - and they do not want you to see it

I am very surprised this project hasn't been scrapped yet. With gas prices they way they are and consumer confidence being at an all time low, I just cannot see the reason for this truck. I think the money would be better spent on something that won't be getting 16 MPG.

Strange, I was thinking something else entirely. Seeing as how Ford needs to open new markets(its pretty obvious that they have lost market share to a group that will probably not be back, see 500 ne Taurus redux), and just how all around capable SVT was with the last 2 gen(disregard $helby), they might just tap into a new unique niche here. The trad truck buyer may be moving away, so why not go after a new group.

As the pendulum of popular opinion swings yet again, there will be a group like the original SVT Cobra fans. They will feel that there is nowhere for them to turn except perhaps a place like TRD, in that it is a poor imitation of what they are prepared to spend $ on. Kind of like a lot of former SVT owners are now. So, I personally have no use for trucks, but I wonder if a new SVT, done in the original spirit(see the book of Coletti here), might not be a vital sign of life.

In all seriousness, how much is this really costing Ford? Then add in the low production numbers (10K a year) and an introduction late this year early next year when the economy should be on the mend, I think your concerns aren't much to worry about...

Well, granted taking off the shelf parts and trying to fool people into thinking it is something special does not take that much money...but I think the efforts would be better spent on something else.

I wouldn't say that...how many people do you know that have a properly lifted truck or a have a truck with this much suspension travel without spending a huge amount of money? Thats what attractive about it..you can get a very capible off road truck with a real warranty

How much is this truck over a standard F-150 again?

He's right, rememberwhen we first saw the 09 F-150 spyshots and they alsohad the entire truck covered? So eerybody thought they changed the whole truck, when the ony things changed were the front clip and the tailights/tailgate. The sides and greenhouse were 100% carry over. So I doubt the greenhouse of the Raptor will be any different minus some small trim changes.

I do have to say that it looks pretty mean with the black wheels, I want one of these things, but I can't afford 50k trucks plus 4+ bucks a gallon.

What are you talking about Blueblood? The sides of the 09 F-150 are NOT 100% carryover, sorry. From fender to fender, the sheet metal is newly stamped.

What are YOU talking about? Yes they are 100% carry over, the only difference to any part of the sideof the truck is the tiny little creases they made to the tops of the fender flares, the side trim, lower cladding, doors, greenhouse are exactly the same as the 04.

Yeah, you're wrong, admit it. Have you seen the truck in person? Have you noticed that those "tiny little creases" are really not that tiny. They changed the sides, admit it, they aren't 100% carryover from the '04-'08.

Jesus Christ!! The sides are no different, put down the Ford Kool-Aid!

Do you have to trick yourself into thinking it's all-new or something?

Like I said, the only thing different is the little creaes on the fender flares, the greenhouse, doors, lower cladding, bedsides etc. are exactly the same. Accept it and get over it.

Damn...I thought there were more changes than that. You cover up the front and rear and you couldn't tell the difference.

But are we surprised...nope.

The only thing these two trucks have in common are the rear door skins, THAT'S IT! EVERYTHING ELSE IS DIFFERENT. Sorry, but thanks for playing...
