2010 Sable

Monochrome Mercury waterfall grill added.

This one's a bit more "out there" with nerf bumper protection bars, being a bottom breather I added side vents. I always liked the earlier Sables with the full width Citreon SM lights. Needs some work LOL.

I too like the first one, although, I personally would like to see more differentiation between a Taurus and a Sable. Great work as usual Tim!

The second one really does look like crap, but I'd like to see some of the original Sable styling cues....just better done! LOL

What about using your waterfall design, but illuminating each slat as well as the mercury emblem, that would keep the illuminated grille design of years ago but modernize it and would also allow the vehicle to breathe better.

Just an idea...

Would a Mercury have the hood bulge? Not trying to be critical of your work (which is well done, btw), but I am just thinking of brand identity/historical styling cues. Has there ever been a "mainstream" Mercury with one?

Timmm, wasn't the original Sable lightbar grille supposed to be a '49 Mercury design cue? I really like the top one. Nice work.

All of the Mercurys from '65 through '68 had a hood bulge or raised center section. The bulge broadened out in '69 and later models

I like the first one, even the Cougar-esque hood bulge. The lighted grille might be cool too, but what if it used something along the lines of LED lighting like the Audi A5 uses for its running lights? Im too lazy to chop it and youll probably do better with anyway.

Do you mean have the illuminated grille be the running lights or have LED running lights in the headlights?

Grille please

My idea was not to have a full lightbar, thus eliminating the grille. My idea was to rather have each 'waterfall' vertical bar be an LED strip, like featured on the MKX, only with white lights rather than red. That would then create the effect of a full width lightbar grille thing like on past Mercuries, but it would still have a grille.

yeah i like that. If there is a way to make it appear as a solid stripe vs individual LEDs that would be even better. I guess neon tubes would work, but that sounds pricey when a grille breaks in a front end tap.

There is a way to do that. Take a look back at the 2004 Mustang GT concept's tail lights. It used a combination of LEDs and reflectors to give the appearance of a solidly lit surface through the use of multiple LEDs. May a bit too complex to pack something like that into the limited confines of a grille bar though.

It'd done with LED's I believe, like on BMWs with their running lights:
