mustang84isu
This is a quick sketch I did for a new Mercury sedan. There are some details that need to be worked out, but it features more aggressive styling (pushing Mercury to compete with sportier brands), a new version of the waterfall grille (think along the lines of the '49) and would probably be a Sable replacement...maybe RWD even. Very nice, that would be hot second gen Sable.

NickF1011
Looks like something that would stack up well against the likes of the G35/M45 from Infiniti. That could end up being an interesting niche for Mercury if they somehow survive. Lincoln may have too stodgy a reputation to successfully market an all-out sport sedan. Maybe that's where Mercury could shine?

mustang84isu
See, I've never understood why Mercury can't be a cheaper Infiniti / Acura fighter. It could be Ford's "Pontiac." Personally, I think the Mercury name works well for a sporty brand. They wouldn't necessarily have to be volume vehicles; as long as they're desirable enough, the brand could stay low-volume and while turning a profit. Put more emphasis on RWD, especially small RWD cars (think Capri), and maybe a Cougar halo or something. Anything other than rebadging some Fords. I dont have a problem with it being rebadge fords, I mean thats what Inifinit and Acura are too just rebadges.

There is no Honda platform equivalent in the US of the TSX or RL. Infiniti has the G, M, Q, FX, and EX that aren't reskins of anything sold here too. Being that Mercury and Lincoln are already under one roof as far as management and dealerships are concerned, I think it would work pretty well to basically make Lincoln and Mercury operate as one "brand" while marketing two different images. Give Mercury the sporty luxury stuff and give Lincoln the more uppity traditional luxury stuff along the lines of the Lexus LS and Navigator which really have no sporting intentions on any level. I agree on your ideas of where each brand should be placed.
